Is our puppy in season already?

I really need some help. I've had several OES in the past, but always had them desexed around the age of 6 months. Our puppy is 9 months old.

She was playing with the other, older OES a few days ago and somehow strained a leg. That day she had to go to the vet for a vaccination, and he had a look at the leg and said no harm was done, it would just be sore.

Ever since, she has gotten quieter, wants heaps of cuddles and isn't her playful self. I was just wondering if she could be in season....or nearly. Does that change the behaviour at all?

yes, they can change when in season......and others don't. Check the back end for swelling and discharge.

Could be she's still a little sore. I'd say she's afraid to play since she got hurt, but dogs live as each day is a new day...injuries aren't usually a psyco problem......usually.
Have a look at her, she sounds like she might be coming into heat. Look for a puffy look in that area, usually they start to swell up a bit there before the discharge starts. Also they start to lick that area more.

If she is then 21 days of confining her, that is no outside on her own to potty at all and keeping her under strict supervision 24/7 till the heat is over.

They usually do not spay while the bitches are in heat, a bit too much of a high risk there. So if she is coming in or in then you will have to wait till it is well and truly over and look at having her de-sexed well after.

Keep us posted to how she is going and if in heat and you need any advice then please do post and be happy to guide you through this.

And yes some bitches there behaviour does change with the impending heat. Mine get all lovey dovey and real quiet and a bit on the highly strung side (I call it hormones from Hell  )
