Christmas is almost here! What are your plans?

I couldn't believe it when my husband said Christmas is Tuesday and not a week from now like I thought. Holy Cow!!

I went grocery shopping today and am so excited to get started on the Christmas desserts and casseroles for tonight's party. The house will smell awesome combined with the Christmas music I have on in the background. I'm sure it'll start to get on Mr. J's nerves. Lil J has been wiggling his tiny booty to Jingle Bell rock for the past 30 minutes.

We plan on going to dinner at a friend's Christmas Eve, break for church, and come back for dessert. Then go to another friend's house Christmas day. I hope all this activity gets the bean further down .........closer to the exit and into our arms. :hearts:

What will you be doing Christmas weekend/Eve/Day?

No one is allowed to mention on my thread how they'll be watching A Christmas Story Tuesday. I hate that movie with a passion and can't stomach even a few minutes of it, ....even more that it's on for 24 hrs on TBS. Bah Humbug! Love, the Grinch. 8)

Tomorrow I will take my last final at 8:30am (thank god because my brain is beyond full at this point) and then spend the whole day cleaning/cooking for a white elephant party at my apartment. Then Saturday-Tuesday will be various parties at my parents house. So much time with the pooch!

I will also be watching a Christmas Story on Tuesday

I'll be removing some of your goodies from the tree and replacing them w/coal tonight. .........and anyone else who watches that on here.
I am having my neighbor, her mother and a girlfriend over for dinner friday night...(brian works)....

Saturday is my office dinner party!!! whoo hooo....limo and all..

Sunday is dinner at the in-laws...

Monday,Christmas eve will be up in the air because brian works again but im sure i will manage to find someone to mooch a meal off of..

Christmas day is going to be quiet, but im sure ill eat something fantsastic..........

have you noticed this all revolves around food???? lemme tell ya, when your taste buds come back for a few days, you cram all the good stuff in that you can!!!!!!
We will be frosting cookies on Saturday, making Polish Perogi on Sunday night and it looks like I have Monday off :D :D :D Christmas Eve party for 5 and regular dinner on Christmas Day. Crown Rib Roast yum...
We are heading North to Fairbanks early tomorrow morning to spend Christmas with Scott's family. :D

Christmas with my In-Laws means...FOOD!!!, and LOTS of it! :excited: :yay:

A big dinner the night we get there, (not sure of the menu) A huge amount of fresh oysters, scallops, shrimp, and ceasar salad (our gift to the family) Saturday night...Christmas Eve is prime rib and king crab, with plum pudding for dessert,....and finally, Christmas morning brunch at my Sister-in-Law's.

Then, we waddle on home!
We have a pretty busy schedule.

Tomorrow starts our long weekend at the Firehall. We'll get home Sunday about noon. I have to work Monday.

We are taking Ambulance coverage from Christmas eve noon to Christmas Day around 3 so that those with younguns can stay home with them. Then Christmas night Doug's children are supposed to come (it's always a crap shoot whether they show up or not).

My Son and his wife are coming for a couple days on Wednesday so we'll have Christmas with them when they arrive. On Friday my brother and his family are coming and I'm cooking "big" that day. W are back on ambulance duty Friday night so I expect by Sat we'll be ready to spend two days CRASHING.

I haven't even thought about exactly WHAT I'm cooking...... Lasagna on Friday I think and maybe a ham for Christmas (it's easy). I won't be doing alot of fancy cooking. I've done that before, had a huge meal and then Doug's kids didn't show up so I don't go whole hog any more.
I have no idea now, suppose to be at my moms place christmas day a nice big family feast. My sister was coming down from the country to spend time too, which was fantastic as we hardly see each other. Plus Jaord is due to fly off to china straight after christmas so was going to be great to have the extended family all together for Christmas day.

Anyhow all that is on hold, looks like I am doing the christmas day lunch here or sitting in Hospital christmas day with my mom, all up in the air at the moment.

Took her yesterday to the Doc's she had blood tests and chest x-rays and has Pneumonia (sp). Border line as to wether they put her in Hospital or not. So at the moment I am running back and forth from her place and keeping a close eye on her, at least I have the christmas shopping all done
Lisa, I hope your Mom is better SOON & FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is going to be a fun filled couple of days! I get to meet my boyfriend's mother on X-Mas Eve, no pressure there 8O, then go home and host my family's X-Mas party/ Yankee swap at my house. Twenty of my nearest and dearest relatives, we've both decided we're having Bellinis for breakfast. Nathan aka the b.f. is an emt/firefighter so he's working a 24 hr shift Christmas Day, that means I am off to my Mom's for dinner, just Finney and I! This is the most excited I have been about the hoildays in a few years.
Happy Holidays!!!
Oh, Mrs. J., is Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas an acceptable movie choice? I watch it every year, it is my favorite thing from Christmases when I was little.
I hope your plans all work out Lisa, and your Mom gets well soon!

Tomorrow is shopping at the Mall with my Sister - starting at 7:00 am. I am done- but- she needs a few more things. Then we are doing lunch and finishing off with pedicures.

OMG 8O I just found out what else Ill be doing for Christmas...freezing to death! Its apparently -40F in Fairbanks right now, with NO signs of warming up. Everybody please cross your fingers and paws that we dont break down on the drive...some of the areas we have to travel through are probably even colder! :twitch:
Like all days I will be visiting Hubby in hospital and then christmas eve day Daughter, SIL and grandaughter are coming to stay over and spend christmas day , they and son and another son with wife and grandson will be here ,we will all be going to visit Don then back home to eat turkey, dressing, ham, spuds, turnip, parsnips, brussel sprouts, cranberry sauce , rolls, etc. etc :)

Oh my! Paws - fingers - toes- you name it -- it's crossed for good luck on your journey to Fairbanks. How long will your drive be??
Wow, we are busy people!
I hope I don't forget any - Laurel -safe drive to Fairbanks, Jean - good visits with Don, hoping he gets out of ICU, Ginny - have no bad calls over the holidays, Lisa - hope mom gets better, Jo - get the baby moving, umm - good luck with finals, meeting potential inlaws and all!

We are just hanging out around home. All the family lives close - well except daughter Lisa, and she is here from NY until Jan 2nd. Traditionally Christmas eve is with Todd's family. We rotate the host family, this year it is at his brother's who is only 5 miles from us. We pot luck - various munchies; play games, cards, watch movies and talk.

Christmas Day we are going to LeAnne and Keith's in town. Travis and GF Nicole live there, and Lisa is staying there too. (She wants to be close to the action and friends, not "stuck out on the farm"!)
Today I spent baking 5 kinds of cookies, tomorrow I will finish off the last 2 kinds. Then I'll start making the side dishes for Christmas day dinner. Daughter is already home from school for the Christmas break, son and girlfriend come home on Saturday and will stay until Wednesday.

Christmas Eve we will be just a small group of 6 and will have a pot luck kind of dinner following church service. Christmas Day dinner will be 10, with my sister and her family joining us. Just the perfect size - not too small, not too big. We always do the traditional (for us) turkey, stuffing, etc.

All the while my kids were growing up, we always opened presents Christmas morning. My family always opened them Christmas Eve (after I stopped believing in SC) but I never liked that tradition. So even after my kids stopped believing, I still insisted we wait until Christmas morning. And I'm sure that this year, like every year since they stopped believing, they will whine and carry on and beg to open presents Christmas Eve. Why? So they can sleep in on Christmas morning, of course!!
Saturday doing last minute shopping, baking and taking Heart to her puppy class, getting a manicure and out to dinner with Dino.

Sunday, cleaning the house, relaxing, brushing all the dogs maybe baths.

Monday, more cleaning, more brushing, daughter coming over to help get ready for Christmas Eve family dinner. Daughter, Daugher, SIL, Son, DIL, 3 grandgirls, 1 grandboy...Filets,shrimp, pasta, wine...............delicious deserts, opening presents and watching the grandbabies and furkids have fun. Midnight mass...... Family at Christmas...don't get better than this!!!

Christmas...light breakfast, relaxing with Dino...We are going to my brothers this year..(I have Christmas one year, he has it the next) All our aunts, uncles, about 40 people..............go home ---fall into bed...........................................(work the next day...........................yecchchchch!!!)
I think the biggest challenge for me will be cooking a whole turkey, never done that before 8O So I will either give everyone food poisoning or leather to eat. 8)

Oh joy Oh joy, this will be fun.

Mom is always so good at this turkey cooking business, I have to collect the large gobbler tomorrow and de-frost it in the fridge, can you tell I don't do turkey :?

Wish us luck I don't kill everyone with the christmas feast.

Mom is still borderline for hospital so here is hoping, complete rest and the drugs start kicking in soon. :plead:

Sis is still coming down so YAY I have not seen her in such a long time and this year will be a challenge with all that is happening at the moment.

Oh well we shall get through all this and laugh about Christmas disasters in the new year. :P

You better have a way to let us know you arrived safely!

Paul made the dough for his cookies today and will make them tomorrow. That will have to be the sugar indulgence...no more fudge, etc. Drat.

Now that we have a full time priest, we get the full meal deal for services, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Depending on when one wants to take communion determines when they finish the 40 day fast. I know I could not be a full time vegetarian....I salute those of you who are. Beans of every size type and texture.....soy oy vey, pinto shimto, you gotta be kidney, garbozo.....blech.

Christmas Eve we set out the luminarias.....bags and candles. Since I can't get my husband in a church, we'll go out early to view the neighbor's lights and then I'll go to church. Neither of us has family here......nor friends that we get together with. So Christmas Day we'll have a nice lamb dinner and probably hike a bit on the acequias with a dog or two. It's a regular geriatric parade what with us and the dogs. More limping than a pack of fire walkers. Since I know we both are getting a stack of books, evening will be quiet with some libation and our books. All that's missing is a fireplace and snow outside....but even that might happen this year.

About 7-8 hours, depending on the road conditions. The poor sheepies are going to need frequent breaks along the way, since we are driving our small truck, and there is VERY little room in the back seat. At least with all 4 of us crammed into a tiny space, the body heat alone should keep us warm!

Sheepieboss: I'm taking my laptop, so yes, I'll check in as soon as we get there!

Good luck to everyone on their X-mas plans and preparations...special good thoughts going out to Jean and Lisa, that their loved ones health improves. :ghug: ....Jo, don't you DARE have that baby before I get back!
Oh my goodness! -40! 8O

Be SAFE.
We are doing our Christmas on Sunday at my house. Saturday my friend and I are going to see Sweeney Todd, then dinner at Steak and Shake. Sunday everyone at my house (Lisa, you better take your bird out of the freezer NOW--mine has been thawing since Tuesday). Mom is staying over Sunday night. On Monday I'll take her home, and we're stopping at the assisted living place that she's moving to except she doesn't know it. Yet. She knows she can't live aone but hasn't fully accepted moving up by me.

Christmas I'm by myself which doesn't bother me at all. Mom will be with my brother who I don't talk to so she's covered. I'll go to the barn and hang with Wonder Pony then go home and eat leftovers.

I watched A Christmas Story last Saturday night but will watch it again.

To all, I wish HEALTH (Lisa's mom, Don), SAFE TRAVEL (Laurel), and GOOD FOOD. Merry Christmas!!!!!
Well to start today at work I am going to be an elf. We are having a Dear Santa Program at the school I work at and each child will receive a gift.
That is about 900 presents that were donated to our students. So I will be very busy and tired by tonight.
Then tonight I have to go last minute Christmas shopping which I am sure will be fun. Tomorrow more Christmas shopping and then wrapping all the presents and food shopping too! Oh, this is tiring me out.
On Christmas I will have 8 family members over at my house with me cooking and cleaning up after it all.
I am sure it will in interesting and fun and tiring.

Mary
we are doing something different this year...I always make a big dinner and this year it is just the two of us ......so we have invited students that are in the dorms at the college....we are having an international dinner
are guests are all from different countries....I can't wait
LISAOES, awee.... my prayers are sent out to your family, and I hope all goes well for your mom, so everyone can enjoy Christmas.

ravenmoonart, my husband couldn't believe the temp in Fairbanks when the weather guy came on. The HIGH yesterday was -35 according to him. We're worried about you guys driving up there since if something happens... you're screwed. Not like driving to a normal place with lots of help/people along the way!
Oh this is a FUN thread!! :D

I'm enjoying reading all your holiday plans. It sounds like such fun being surrounded by family & friends and doing the things that make you most happy. :P

Jo - I'm going to be checking in often to see if the little bean makes an early arrival. :D

Lori - I want to come eat with you! Your menus sound wonderful!!
Jean - I'm saying a prayer that Don is ready to come home soon. :)
Dawn - relax and enjoy your time with the family & being off from work!! :D

Val - you're doing way too much cleaning!! RELAX!! :D
Susan - your description of your walk cracked me up. Enjoy the end of your fast! Eat up!! :D
Paula - I hope the weather is nice and you can take Bob for a ride on Christmas Day. Be sure to bring him a treat, too. :P
Mary - that sounds like my weekend - busy!! :P
Chip - what a great thing to do - sounds so interesting. :D

Christmas Eve is dinner at my parents' house after candelight communion service at church. Christmas morning, my dad fixes pancakes and you'd better be prepared to eat until you pop. 8O Christmas afternoon, we'll be at Robbie's daughter's house watching his grandson open gifts and I'll meet the rest of the family. :D The 26th we'll be at his sister's house for dinner & exchanging gifts with her, too. I don't know what I'm going to be baking and cooking yet, but there is a lot of it and I've got to get myself in gear and get started tomorrow.

Merry Christmas to Everyone!! My best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy holiday.
Chip547, what a thoughful thing to do for those students that can't get home. What will you be cooking???
Wow Tammy...i am impressed....i hope that you have a wonderful and magical Christmas too!!!

ps...Laurel would you pretty please send me one of everything that youre having?????? All of that is right up my alley!!
I hope to get my cards out...
Everyone sounds like they are going to have such an exciting Christmas. Tomorrow we are going over to my niece's home and celebrating with her family (6 boys 3yrs to 18yrs) her sister who just had a new baby in November, yes a boy...she also has one daughter and another son. I love watching children at Christmas time. My brother and sil. We will be celebrating Christmas and my Birthday all wrapped in one...so we are bringing the Birthday cake, rolls, and one other item I havent' decided on yet. We are celebrating early because my one niece (the one with the baby) and her family are heading to Georgia for the holiday. My niece, who is hosting the dinner, has to work...she works in a hospital and is studying to be a nurse.
Tomorrow I'll have phone calls from my sons in Michigan wishing Birthday wishes and both of my sisters will send e mail birthday greetings. My one sis had a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered to me last night. :D The colors of the bouquet are red and white and are prominently displayed on the piano.~thanks sis~ Sunday and Monday will finish up with all the little ends. We plan to go to Midnight Mass and open gifts Christmas morning. My husband has a tradition from his childhood, his mom was from Germany, where they have warm chocolate pudding and homemade rolls for dipping. A little off my diet. We'll have dinner mid day with just the four of us this year. We will, of course make phn calls to our boys, their families and our granchildren. I do look forward to my hubby having some time off so he can relax. Violet and China will get their walks, special Christmas meal and hopefully will get to the park at least one of the days.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!
Mr. J told his single soldiers at the barracks who will be here over christmas that we're bringing over a turkey, rolls, stuff to make a sammie with, and soda on Christmas, so looks like I'm baking a big turkey on top of everything else now. 8O
That just shows how much confidence he has in you
Wow Tammy-- What a nice little round up of our activities.

PLEASE - bring Robbi and come JOIN US!! Dinner is at 1:00 on Sunday-- 6:00 on Christmas Eve- Breakfast is at 9:00 Christmas morning-- and cocktails and snacks are at 6:00 Christmas night. Come for all or one.  :D :D
:phew: Were here!

The drive was beautiful and uneventful....the coolest part of our journey was the herd of caribou hanging out near the side of the road near Denali park. Im sorry, no photos, since it was a really dangerous place to stop, and I couldn't get my camera pulled out in time to take one as we drove by :( . We stopped shortly afterward at a gas station in a tiny town called Cantwell, and there was a family there (Mom, Dad, Grandparents, and a little girl and boy) who were excitedly discussing their siting of "Santa's reindeer on a break"
Good news you made it - was it still -40 out?
We are getting a snow storm with wind here now. BUT, it is warm - about 24 degrees now.
Monday my folks are having a pre x-mas get together for friends at their restaurant. I guess kind of a private party. I dont think there will be any cooking just some snacks. On x-mas day my mom is cooking dinner and some friends are coming to eat as well as my grandmother. Afterwards I am going to a get together with some friends. That does it at least till New Years. I am going to meet/spend New Years with a female friend in nothern Va, near DC.

No...thank goodness, it has warmed way up (to only -5F) :D
We are going to my sisters house on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day we are going to watch the hunt (drag hunting)

I hope everyone has a great Christmas, and Santa brings you everything you want!
Greg has xmas day & boxing day off (first days off for 2 weeks- and he's home late evenings too- working in retail really sucks!!) so we are having a nice peaceful xmas day together. My parents are taken care of, Dad's gone to the Canary Islands for a sunny xmas & Mum has gone to stay with her sister.
Boxing day we will take Rufus to Gregs mums (oh god I can't imagine the mayhem) where his 4 brothers are all home for xmas. SO... 5 boys, 1 mum-in-law and 1 very naughty puppy. I have NO IDEA how I will cope :twitch:
