Calling all experts- Max has pee issues :(

Not really sure where to post this one- but am assuming it falls under medical :?

Here's the deal--- this morning he was in the garage for a bit after he ate. I went out to get him , and was going to put his diaper wrap on him. He walked over to me-- and peed. The door was open - and so I shished him out--- and he stood there for a minute or two. Didn't pee. I called him back in-- and again- stood right in front of me and peed - this time in my tennis shoe ( it wasn't on my foot :) )
I scooted him back out again... nothing outside but came in ONE MORE TIME and peed. Each time- I had bent down to put on the diaper guard when he peed. Have we trained him to go in the diapers instead of outside now??? Do they trigger the peeing "reflex" It almost seems like he CAN hold it now-- but has choosen to go in the wrong place. He WILL let us know when he has to poo-- and - is getting better at holding it until we get him outside. We look like geeks running after him with a paper towel at his butt - just in case!

So-- any ideas????

Could it be a UTI and he really can't hold i?

That would be my first thought too--- but- the Vet does a urine sample each month, because of his spinal injury. He is always on top of the "what can happen because" and the UTI is something to watch. He just seems to wait until he is inside and sees that darn diaper to pee. Strangest thing.
I do know that urinary incontinence can be a sign of nerve damage from a spinal injury so it may be worth a visit to the vet.

Thing is - he is 4 and was house trained before his accident. Now he seems to hold it outside and then waits until he sees us with his diaper, getting him ready to come in the house and pees all over the garage.
Poor Max , just an idea but what if you put the diaper down on the grass ? maybe he would go to it to pee and that way you would be starting him to think about going outside

Humm. :?: Like a puppy pad! You may be onto something Jean! :D
boy if you figur it out let me know!!!
Hi,

I had no idea what to suggest until I read Jean's suggestion and perhaps she has the best idea.

18 years ago when Blue came into my home and people still "paper trained" ..this is what I did to train him to go outside.
I had read that dogs will frequently go pee over their scent or that of other dogs. So I picked up the pee sodden paper and placed it in the yard where I wanted him to go. Only took a few days and from that moment on he peed outside.

I realize your situation is different but perhaps using newspaper to clean up the urine and then placing that paper outside so Max can smell it may entice him to pee again over that spot. Worth a try.

Good luck to you!
