Holiday Card Exchange Talk

I'm just starting up a new thread since the old one was getting pretty lengthy. Chat away!

So much fun to check the mail!!! Just got debcram's! Not sure why it took so long, but postal mail here is unpredictable.
We got ours actually sent off yesterday. Yes, I know I said I was "done" a week ago  but the post office lines were so long we kept putting the mailing part off!

Just got Maxxim's, Paula's and Darcy's....THANKS guys! they're all beautiful! :D I loved the inner pic, Darcy!
I just love all the cards we are getting! This is the BEST!
Just got all the decorations done today, so taking Drez's picture is next on the agenda. Hopefully I'll have them all out by middle of next week.

I just love all the ones I've received so far! Can't wait for MORE!!
The final batch of cards went in the post today! They are a little "different" but they do include my Sheepies.
I've realized that I am sending and receiving approximately 60 cards, the majority to and from people I've never met. That's what makes it so much fun! The cards are so pretty and every night look at all of them again. It's one of the highlights of the holiday season.
WOW! I just checked my mail, and it was like an avalanche of sheepie cards! :excited: :yay:  :go: This is so cool! :D
Darcy...

I love the comment about 2007! How true.
Thanks,
J
I finally got my cards and started addressing them. Last night I managed to finish 21 of them and they went out in today's mail.

But one reminder to all sending cards. Please use this year's list. One member used last year's list and I moved since then. I was lucky the post office forwarded this card to me.

So, please use this year's list because I want to receive all the sheepie cards.

Thank you

Mary
Can't wait to check the mail today and it's only 6 something a.m. now.
Our post arrives about 1.30-2.00 PM. All the cards have been so beautiful, I'm looking at them all the time, can't say thank you enough!!
I finally got mine out today after a whole week of being sick. :phew:

I hope that everyone likes them - they are a little different but are continuing the theme I started last year: Christmas in St. Louis

I too am enjoying everyone's cards and look forward to getting the mail each day.

Also, a BIG Thank You to those who have sent Brian cards - he calls everyday to talk about the cards he has received. I will make the donation to the rescue group in January after he has received all his cards.
Judi, I loved your card last year! My inlaws are in St. Louis, and I showed it to them. They were thrilled!
I had to do some Christmas shoppping at lunch today, so I didn't get to go home & check the mail. I cannot wait to see what the postman brought me today. :D
I :hearts: checking the mail! When I get home I sort the mail, and put aside the sheepie cards til Tony gets home. Then we open them together. Our house must sound like we are watching fireworks, cuz we "ooo" and "ah" at each one!

Next year, I'm not going to send them out so early. Its more fun to get them in bunches!
OMG!!! Avalanche of sheepdog cards today!!! Prepare yourselves people!!
:clappurple:

:D Here too :D
When I walked in the door Tim said "You hit the jackpot today!" :excited:

This is so much fun and the cards are fantastic!

On a side note: Brian and I are comparing notes and I was beginning to get very irritated with Mr. Postman when Brian would say "I got one from Tasker and Ty" and that was three days ago and I didn't have one from Tasker and Ty. Then he would say "How many sheepdogs does Marianne have?" and I didn't have one from Marianne.  So Mr. Postman was absolved today when those showed up. Then I had to call Brian and tell him that I got a great one of Chewie, etc. Of course my mail comes before his and sometimes after he leaves for his night shift so we may have to wait until tomorrow to compare notes.

I may need to get a life beyond the OES holiday card exchange.
Hi Everyone!

Arriving home to find cards in my mailbox - what a treat! I'm amazed at the creativity of the members here and those of you that included photos of your uprights and furkids ..they're all wonderful!

I was kinda rushed this year and felt like I would run out of time so I grabbed one of my favorite pics of Merlin as a puppy (age 4-5 months) experiencing his first snow. Had to explain it as you may wonder who the dog is on the photo! Didn't even send hand written notes either to explain...egads I'm so lame this year. So for you curious minds..it's Merlin!

Unlike the previous years where we visited Santa and Ms Elf otherwise know as "Moi". :D Although in each of those photos I think Ms Elf appears to be strangling the dogs but really was only holding on to their collars.
http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2030

Can't wait to see what arrives tomorrow, and the day after...and so on..
Wooohoooo!! Yesterday was a banner day for sheepie cards!! :excited:

I oohhheeddd & ahhhheed over each one of them! :D Great pictures & so creative. :D Checking the mail is FUN!! :P
What a great feeling to go to the post box and find the cards there then hurry home to open them

got mine mailed today so hope you all receive them soon
I agree. This time of year is the BEST!!!! I hope this tradition never ends!
Whew--- DONE!! I am mailing today. We LOVE the cards we have received... so cute and very creative!!!
Yesterday I must have received about 8 cards. Yipee, Yipee!

All of them are wonderful! :hearts:

I am hanging them up and I look at them all the time.

Everyone that I tell about this sheepie card exchange thinks it is so cool and they seem jealous.

I hope this tradition is now a yearly thing forever! :cheer:

Mary
Mine are all looking so festive. I borrowed the idea of putting up wrapping paper on the wall and taping them up. In the past I used garland over door frames and pinned them on - but there were just too many!
I did have a disaster the 1st night - not enough tape and the whole thing fell down in the night! Now I hope I have them secured well enough.....
Keep the cards rolling! :D
Harry is tearing my cards up. :(

I have lost 3 now and am going to have to find a new way to display them.

Of course, his Daddy is taking Harry's side, telling me not to be mad at him.
Do you think he's trying to get to the sheepies in the pictures? 8)

I think the clueless wonder might actually see the dogs and he thinks that the cards are his so he can do whatever he wants with them. But he is sadly mistaken they are MINE and I have had it with him. Last night also may have been a Separation Anxiety issue.

Naughty Harrington!!!
What has gotten into that boy??

I did have a dog (my GSD Jenny) who loved the taste of photos. It was something in the photo finishing that she loved. She sucked on and chewed up pictures all her life. And this was a nearly perfect dog who didn't chew or anything. I guess they all have at least one quirk!

I thought maybe Mopsy's ghost was inhabiting him and making him chew it up. But as Brian mentioned to me - if it was Mopsy's ghost than we would have found the evidence in the back yard (if you know what I mean) since she ATE paper. He is just making a mess and making me mad on top of it.

Pond Dwelling is less destructive and a whole lot cuter!
I have got soo many lovely Sheepie Cards, every day I get a new pack of letters/cards arriving from all over the world! It inspired me so much to print some christmas cards for myself,Max and Charlie next year aswell! At the moment we have just "normal" cards where I put Charlie's picture in.

I already started posting loads of cards but there is still enough to do!

My whole fireplace is placed with Sheepie Pictures, I never ever had so many Sheepies and they are ALL so lovely!!

Merry Christmas to you all!!! :ghug: :hearts:
Monika - I love your shiny red little card! The pictures inside are a nice bonus. :D
What wonderful cards received here! THANK you ALL!

I picked mine up today and just now thought i was going to have a heart attack..... checkers was walking around with them in his mouth.......

guess i better hunker down and get busy getting them all oout!

Ali
Hee hee...our dogs are so naughty. Keira has already chewed up a roll a scotch tape I put out to hang the pics! I think they're all jealous of the cutie pictures coming into our homes!
This morning my cell phone rang (inopportune moment but.....) and it was Norm........ one of his first sentences to me was:

WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE SENDING ME CARDS?????

I laughed and told him about the Xmas card exchange...... he said to say thank you...... he is loving looking at all the OES........ and said he has addressed responses to a number of them... I told him that was great but I had already sent them out....... so some may get a response..

I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for those that have sent him a card....... I could tell the difference in his voice this year!

Ali
Ahh that's wonderful! I was glad to take part as was everyone else.

For those of you whose cards have arrived I also want to give my thanks..just love each and everyone of them!

PS My sheepies never bother with the cards...it's those darn cats! I'm thinking they are telling me "no more dogs in the house please!" :D

Marianne
:go: GO NORM! :go: GO NORM! :go:
I just love the sheepie cards. I am not going to throw them out after Christmas they are too priceless! Thanks lot and lots and lots...

Last year was my first year on the Forum and I kept every Sheepie Card form last years exchange. Everyone put to much work into them to throw out and I do enjoy looking at them from time to time.

Thank you everyone! :D
Oh my gosh... we are so impressed with the cards this year :D

Thanks to everyone who took the time to send one. We checked out mail today and had 15 cards!!! :yay:
this is my first time you guys really go all out.. this is just way to much fun.. i use to hate the mail cause of bills now i am running to the mail box my neighbors all what to see them every day ...gotta go get my mail
The cards are all beautiful! We laugh every day because we have SO MANY sheepie cards, and so few friends/family cards! And I'm just as bad - I haven't sent out my "other" cards yet but the sheepie ones were done right away!
I missed the list, BUT there is next year. SOOOOOOO MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone.
Yes, yes! You will have to get on the list for next year! I love it!

I think I want to find a photo album with a sheepdog on the front (I may have to make it), and put the cards in there when the holidays are over!

I LOVE THIS!!!
Yes, Yes, Yes this is the best.
Receiving a sheepie card everyday is so much fun.
Each one is unique and very cute! :hearts:
I saved all of my cards from last year. I would never throw them out. They are just too precious.
Thank you to all for the cards and I can't wait till we can start showing off how we displayed all of our cards.

Mary
About how many cards has everyone gotten? I wonder if some are getting lost i the mail because I only have about 30 so far. Is that the norm, or do most of you have more than that? There were 65 names on the list, so even taking Europe out of the equation (if they didn't want to send a bunch because of the high cost, which is understandable) (but I have gotten some from Europe too), I figure I should still have about 50. What's your count??

I do apologize for my own cards being late. I got a late start to begin with (my bad) and then came down with this infernal bronchitis, which has knocked me for a loop the past week. But today I finally got them all in the mail. The European and Canadian cards may arrive after Christmas - many apologies!
Chris, i've gotten 25-30, too. I think that is typical. We'll be getting them into 2008!

I don't think I even have 30... but we are sure enjoying the ones we get! :)
I sent out some but if I don't get in gear the message may say Happy New Year :D . I wanted to do Jonah and Gabe pics with santa and elf hats, got the hats, they won't leave them on  . The dynamic duo may become the terrible two!
I finally finished mine today, I'll be sending them out tonight so hopefully they will get to most people by Christmas.

They've been coming to my parents house, and as usual Walter's cards are about triple the size of the familys cards!
I am up to 28 oes.org ones, 9 from the basset rescue and 6 from others!

I love them! :D
I have received about 30 cards so far. I think that is the norm. I have received some from Canada and England too.
I am looking forward to the rest of them. And hanging them up is so much fun too. :D
Same here, around 30 cards received/ Norm said he had about 27 in Iraq..... OH the TCN's (third country nationals) are in awe of the shaggie dogs!!

Mine went in the mail today, along with his xmas package.

Ali
I've received 31 so far.

I am glad they arrive spread out like they do, makes it last longer
I LOVE my cards! What a faboulous treat to come home to! Never had I had so many x-mas cards!

I think I will take them to work to show them off.

THANKS GUYS!!
I've had about 20 so far but I think the mail in the Uk is slow.

You should all be getting mine soon as they have been mailed now!!!
We have about 20 also. I've sent mine out today too :D hoorah I actually got around to doing it!!
I have saved mine from every year. Someday I am going to come up with a very creative way to put them to use!!! I have been toying with making Christmas placemats out of them but have not figured the best way to laminate yet.
Jill- we loved your card, Walter was pleased that it didn't look like you ripped of his idea too much

Kathie- I showed my whole family Oscar and Dudley, they thought it was so funny that Walter's brothers were naughty boys as well 8O
Ahemmmmmm......

As I won't be picking up our Christmas cards until tomorrow, Ours are going to Happy New Years as by the time you all get the cards Christmas will be over.

Please don't be upset with me....just one of those years. If I wrote a newsletter about this past year it would read like Soap Opera Digest.

Ditto!! :D
Yep.....about 30 here too. I think I have looked through them about 3 or 4 times.....they're all great!! I should have the rest of mine mailed out tomorrow or Wednesday. I have never had so much fun going to the mailbox. Yipeeeeee :D

Would someone email me privately w/ the last name & address. thx

Me too esp the ones I get from Cali. They have the same postage stamp with no address. I've been marking off who I've gotten them from, so I can look forward to the number I still have coming! :)
37 so far and enjoying every one of them! :)
I finally got ButtersStotch's and loved it. I love these cards coming in! ...esp the ones who sent some from the UK. One of the posters has the nicest...straightest handwriting ever. Not positive the username, but I'm pretty sure it's Vicki & George!!

They have ALL been so fun. Next year- I'm going to have to zip it up a bit. Ours are very plain--- you all should have received or will be receiving soon. Such talented and witty people you are!

Isn't that funny, I actually held the card up several different ways to see if it was some new computer FONT!!!!!!!! I thought NO ONE can write that nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday was the first day in ages that I went to my mail box and there wasn't a SINGLE card.

As the cards come in I am also feeling TERRIBLEY GUILTY, in years past sending my cards ment taking almost an entire day, usually the day after Thanksgiving, to sit and write notes on every card. This year because of school I knew that if I didn't just stick them in envelopes they would never get done. NOW, I'm wishing I had taken the time to write a note to everyone :( :( NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't get any cards yesterday either!
I got 3 on Wednesday, but none on Tuesday. And I got 6 basset cards Wednesday too. Yippee for the dog friends! :D
I just got Heather's card yesterday (Lil Walty) and it's my favorite so far! Having been on OES.org for a while and knowing Walter through Heather's stories, I just fell off the chair laughing at the picture of Walter chasing Santa  Priceless! Good job Heather!
I didn't get mine yet (where is the POUTING emoticon) :(

yay! I'm glad you liked it! And just so you all appreciate the card just a little more, Santa was played by ME and Walter was not acting in that photo shoot!
I can't wait to get home and check the mail!! :sidestep:
Heather, I just received your card and I have got to tell you I could not stop laughing. THAT WAS GREAT !!!!!!!!

Walter you are a naughty boy ................ :)

thanks!! I'm so glad it came on time, I was worried they wouldn't get there!
I cracked up, too, Heather. Very creative!!
Hi Heather,
Carlos and I laughed oursevles silly yesterday, when we got your card. We know exactly what that is all about!

Dudley and Oscar send their brother Walter their best holiday growls!

Kathie
I need about three more cards to fill in the empty space which I am sure I will get them today. And then I start a second row of them.
Can't wait to see how everyone displayed their cards.
I haven't had time to take pics and then upload them. Maybe I will find some time to do that.
All the cards are WONDERFUL!
:rimshot: I love each and every one of them. :hearts:

THANK YOU!

Mary
How did I miss this???? 8O 8O 8O I wish I paid more attention to it...I did have a crazy time though...next year I keep my eyes open and get on the list ! :D
My husband, what a piece of work. :? As I worked on the cards he thought I was nuts trying to fit them into my schedule.

When the cards started to arrive the first week, he would look at them and didn't have much to say. The second week he'd ask questions about each dog and comment on the card. This week, he was disapointed the day we didn't receive any cards.

Today, as we looked at the cards that arrived, he asked me to tell everyone on the board how much he has enjoyed the cards and to wish everyone Happy Holidays!

He also said, naughty Walty chasing Santa was great, but his vote goes to Harry in front of the Budweiser plant. Go figure......
I want everyone to know how much we love each and every card! We are having such fun! I finally taped them all up above the dog leashes near the door to the garage. We can them coming in, going out, and letting pups outside. Love it!
Well, there are about 8 people who won't receive my card and I don't even know who they are :( . Last night I reached under the sofa to get Luke's baby out for him and pulled out a pile of well chewed cards . I would have sent out new cards with Happy New Year greetings but can't even read the names or addresses. I won't name the culprit but it wasn't Luke, Rosco or Gabriel...... So I must apologize for my apparently hungry and ill mannered boy, who shall receive a lump of coal from Santa this year! So:

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! :) ! :)

Holly
My Jonah wouldn't do that. I'll bet Benny was just hungry.
Your Jonah would do that, along with a library book I now have to pay for and don't want  . Maybe he has pica?
What book was it? Maybe he had a good reason.
Mr. J's card was returned to me today. Mrs. J. Please tell him to share yours!
Just want to say thanks for all the wonderful cards, I love them all
Always nice to have the cards as a conversation piece when folks come over!

I know what you mean!!!!!!!!!! Doug's Mother thinks I'm NUTS!!

I just got around to putting my cards up today. Despite my 100 foot Christmas tree I've been in a bit of a Christmas funk this year (I think that is why I got such a huge tree-I thought it would "defunk" me). It's been harde to get "in the spirit".

Now it's TOMORROW and I'm just wishing it were OVER.
Here's how I displayed my cards:

Image

As for saving all the cards I think I'll get a large poster frame and do a collage, then next year I can hang it on the wall.
I was going to try to do something different and original with the cards this year. Ran out of time  , ended up slapping them up on the wall at the last minute. Same as last year, only not as neat.
Image
I would like to thank everyone who send us cards they are wonderful im not sure who runs to the door first when the post arrives myself or the kids lol :excited: i will post pictures soon of all the cards this is a wonderful forum  :ghug:
My Mom was absolutely amazed at how many forum cards I received. She said how fun and wonderful the group is. Hmm..wondering if I should send cards out next year, but have everyone address them to my Mom. That would sure brighten up her holiday! I have taken pics of where I hung them this year, and will download just as soon as I figure out this new camera :D
Stacy wrote:

A very sweet idea. :clappurple:
Here are my cards. There are more now, coming down the left side between the pictures. It is hard to see, but the pictures on the left are my antique dog prints - of rat terriers.

The basset exchange pictures are on the left, the OES ones all of the middle and right. The non-dog few are on the lower right. It is hard to tell, but I have white and gold wrapping paper under the cards.

Image
Well... my final total was 47 cards. That's not to bad, I didn't expect to get many if any at all from overseas just because of the high cost. I am delighted with all that ones that I did get! I am sooo happy I decided to join in on the fun!

And I have NO intention of throwing them out. There just to darn cute! There going right into my photo album!

Thanks again to everyone, excpecially those who sent from overseas! What a treat!
I loved all my cards too!! I have them around my fireplace in the livingroom. Often I had a laugh when I saw some funny pictures of Sheepies on the cards and every single card I showed it to Max! I'm surprised I got so many cards as I didnt expected this!

Thank you to you all!!! :hearts:

I have written the most people back I can remember but couldnt write all 60 as it would have been very expensive here from UK, but I think I wrote around 40 christmas cards! I never wrote so many cards in my life! And I have to say "sorry" for everyone I havent send a card!!! I am more prepared next time and even think of having made my own Sheepie Cards as the many of you did. I love that idea, they really made me very very happy! :D

Merry Christmas again to everyone and especially to those I havent written!!!!! :ghug:

Here's my card collection:

Image

PS: The fireplace is much fuller now with cards who arrived after I taken that picture!!
I'm still getting cards! I love it when the postman has been! Some days I've had loads of cards and others just one or two, but it has been great to get them all.

Can't wait for next year I even have my photo ready!!
I'm at around 45 right now, and they're still coming in!! I think we've had a very successful card exchange this year, and I will gladly volunteer my services again as the keeper of the list for next year. Woo-hoo!! :yay:
I just want to thank some people on the forum, I was not on the exchange this year and GAWD I missed all the wonderful cards that came like last year, got a few sent through that was such a wonderful surprise :D This forum rocks. :D

There is no way I am missing this next christmas time, now part of my wonderful christmas to receive such awesome sheepie cards from people on this forum.

Still have last years all kept and of course this years ones as each and everyone is soooooo special. :D I can see a framed sheepie cards decoupage on the wall real soon, geez hubby will say more sheepie stuff up on the wall 8)  TOUGH what's a house without it being full of sheepie thingys. :P

Chris you do an awesome job getting the list together for everyone to share in the exchange. Can't wait till next christmas :excited: , I am hoping the year flies by for a post box filled with sheepie cards next christmas, I really missed that this year.
