Moving and need suggestions

on making it easy for my two sheepies, Max and Miller. The drive should go okay, its about 16 hours, but they have done it before. We are moving from a house to an apartment, which they have never lived in. How do I make this transition easiest for them? they are not used to hearing other people's doors etc, and I'm afraid they will bark alot. Max will be scared for awhile because of his personality, but I want to make this easy and good for both of them....any one have suggestions? Also snow will be new to them :)

thanks ahead of time.

We moved to an apartment briefly with our first OES after living in a home. I don't think you will have any problems with the transition, I didn't even notice any changes for the most part, other than having to walk him on a leash for a while. OES are very adaptable. They might bark at first with the new noises but after a while, I'm sure they will just ignore the noise.
I don't live in an apartment but I still leave the tv on when I leave, at a slightly louder volume than usual.
This is the perfect question for me. We lived in a 6 bedroom house with yard, ocean at the end of the street and woods 10 minutes away. We moved to a 1 bedroom apartment on the 29th floor with 2 dogs. Oh, and 2 days driving.

Our first dog, Lumpi is from Columbia, SC actually and he has traveled/moved around the states with us.

After the trip the very first thing I do with the boys is take them for a very long walk - hour or so. The longer the better, you want them to be tired and you want them to realize the move. When you drive they don't realize that you are so far away from your house. So, you leave from your house and after an hour walk they already have familiar smell when you get back to the house. Keep them on a leash when you enter the house. You have to enter first and then invite them in. You have to walk them through the apartment room by room.

Make sure while you walk them your partner puts their crates, rugs or beds out first so by the time you get back and walked them through the apartment they will understand the move.

Before the move, I can advise you to start packing early but slowly. So, they kind of get used to the boxes (suitcase) and won't get that upset.

At the beginning both of my boys were barking at the door but I would tell them to come to me and praise them. So, they learnt that barking once is okay but then they have to come to me.

Here are some pictures of how well they adapt.

Ps: We are moving back to a 3 bedroom house with a huge yard now, so the move this way will be easier.
We moved temporarily this summer (about 3 months) from a house with a yard to an apartment. I was worried about how Barney would do, but he was fine. I actually think he liked it more because I would have to take him on actual walks to the poop zone instead of just letting him out into the yard!

We did very little with him for the transition. We don't use a crate for him so we just blocked off the tiny little kitchen for him in the beginning. Our neighbors were actually pretty quiet, so we didn't have much in the way of problems with that, although Barney would sometimes huff if the neighbor got home late and made noise.

I think just to stay calm with them and make them understand that you are living there too and are there for them will help. I made sure to have Barney's bed already in the house when he first walked in so he would feel comfortable that his things were there. (You could just run them up to the apartment with the dogs waiting in the car).

They are very adaptable and they should do fine. Good luck with your move!
