I have been around this breed for 30 years (my entire life). Now how often and how long does the females heat last? The others where all males, she is the first female OES I have been with. (Wife instited that we get a girl.)

My other question is this; she is 5 months old, weighs 40 lbs, and is 23" high at the shoulders. But she is a lot of legs. Is this normal?
Hi Tbone, females heat last 21 days from the onset of the first discharge. They usually come into heat around once every 6 months for 21days. Some are more often even around every 4 months, some are around 7 - 8 months & some just once a year. Depends as they mature. Being 5 months old & her first heat, not till her 2nd heat will you get a better idea of her cycle as far as how long before she is in heat again.

Please make sure she is well supervised for the 21 days while in heat. No outside on her own at all and give the area a wash once a week to keep it fresh and not so smelly, they get quite pongy as the heat progresses.

Height wise at 5 months and looking lanky at the moment, she has had a rapid spurt in growth and should over the next few months start to fill out in the body more and catch up with the shooting up in leg. Very normal, some look real leggy at that stage till the rest of the body catches up as they mature & grow. Wink
