Poop quesion

Okay I wasn't sure where to ask this but I have to know 8O Is it normal for a 5 months old puppy to poop 6-8 times a day? We live in an apt so I have to take him out each time so I see how much he poops. This seems like a ton, it this regular and will it slow down as he gets older? Thanks

Yes, too much. I would say 2-3 x's max.

Is this a new puppy? Have you been to the vet yet? Are the stools firm, no blood or mucous? Might be a number of things from food allergies, worms, etc. Poor dog food can also cause a lot of poops but 6-8 x's seems excessive.
I agree with Deb, cheap dog food and too much of it can be a poop nightmare. 6-8 times a day is a awful lot!! Each dog is different though; Tasker poops once a day and Ty usually poops 2-3 times a day. They eat the same dog food.
Summer still goes about 4 times a day. I told the vet and she didnt seem concerned. I suppose it is because we feed her 3 times a day, darent even think about feeding her twice...think she would leave home!
Too much food!

Switching to a high quality brand will also reduce the amount of stool.
Higher quality food is also higher in calories.

Remember it sounds like you're already giving too much food! So you'll cut down to a more reasonable amount with your current food, and then cut down again (about 10 or 15% less) when you switch to a better grade of food (if you do).

Good luck!
Try a better quality of food. Our Lab OTB, was fed Dog Chow because we thought that a name brand was good. When he pooped it was like a cow paddy. He was loved more than I can put into words.
When Bob wasn't ready for a lab but I really needed a companion ( and had alway's dreamed of an OES ) he got Chauncey for my birthday. I did a huge amount of research before picking a food. We spend about $35.00
vs 14.00 per bag but, "in the end" pun intended, a very small amount of waste.
I now read all labels.................Kathy
I am estimating just on weekends when I am around Obe 24 hours a day and I would say he goes 2-3 times a day. If we go for a walk add another time because he always for some reason has to poop when we walk. I can watch him use the bathroom at the house and 10-15 minutes into a walk he will poop again. His stools are very small, makes for an easy clean up at home and when out. I feed Eagle Pack Holistic duck and oatmeal, 3 cups a day, two feedings 1 in the am and 1in the pm.
My dog just turned one. He eats a very high quality food and still poops four sometimes even five times a day. But I take him out alot and if I don't he poops less, just bigger!
As long as the poops are solid and not runny, muscousy, bloddy, etc, I see no harm in alot of poops...and if the vet is not concerned, I wouldn't be either. :)
You need to read the ingredient list on the dog food. We keep talking about "high quality" dog food as if that alone is the cure. I have seen some very expensive "high quality" dog food that has some sort of grain or cereal listed as it's main ingredient. Grain is filler and the more grain in a food the more poop will be produced. If you read the label on the food the first ingredient should be chicken, lamb, beef, salmon etc.
The food I use has no wheat, no corn, no soy...includes russet potatoes, lake whitefish, sweet potatooes, whole eggs, natural chicken, salmon, sun cured alfalfa, dried kelp, carrots, peas, . etc...one year old dog still poops four to five times a day. But like I said, I walk him often. If I am not home and he goes out less often, he poops less times but bigger poops
