Computer Geek needed

For Christmas for my Dad I am thinking about getting him one of those digital photo frames, you know the ones you load a bunch of pictures on and it is a perpetual slide show.

I have found this on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :IT&ih=019

This sellers sells lots of them and they usually go for around $120.00. But I don't understand the "fine print". Are Digital frames "free standing" or do they have to be connected to a computer? What the heck is an SD card.

What I hoped to do was to get pics from my brother and sister and "preload" them so when my Dad receives it all he needs to do is plug it in and turn it on.

Is that reasonable?????

Hi, zoes husband here, they are free standing, you do not need a pc, although im sure the odd one may need a pc so its always worth asking.

An SD card is just a memory card, the thing you put in the camera to store the pictures on. In that frame you need a card, extra cost!

The one you posted a link too seems to take any card going.

The things to look for are of course size, and also resolution, id say 800x600 is probably fine for 10 inches, it will look fine from a distance.

All you would need to do, is take all the jpegs you have, and load them onto a card, put it in the fram and away you go.
THANKS This one comes with a free SD card, I jsut wasn't sure what that ment!
I have two of these and bought my in-laws one last year. They're wonderful and simple - the only thing you want to remember is that you'll want your photos all in the same format - horizontal or vertical. Otherwise you'll be turning your head to the side every time the photo switches. ;)
I received one for my birthday this past year and I love it. They are free standing, Ginny, but require either batteries to operate or need to be plugged in.
Sounds like a job for  Jill
I REALLY want to do this, just not sure I have technological ability to "get it together" Don't forget, I'm old, VERY OLD.
Does $30 seem hefty for shipping?

Definitley. Unless the cost of the item is exceptionally low. But if so, I'd question it anyway.

You can find them at any major retailer for between $100-200. I bought two at Kohl's last year for $110. I bought one at Target last summer for $130. They're all excellent quality and clarity. Although I'm the consumate online shopper and ebay-er, I think in this case you might do better by shopping in brick and mortar stores.
Yea, but combined with the price of item it's not bad. These seems to run for $200 or more.

I haven't found one this size for less than $200. I'd welcome any web links!
I bought 3 of these at Target for $40 bucks a piece. It was black friday.
There have been alot on sale lately. The "sale" ones usually have internal memory and hold a limited number of pictures. This one comes with a 64mg memory card that is changable. My "plan" was to get extra cards for my brother and sister to fill.

The one at Kohls (which was $79.00) is sold out .
Best Buy has one

it is on sale and about the same size

Thanks, I did look at that one but it's also backordered and has internal memory.

I'm not sure what mb= in number of pictures. So I don't quite comprehend if 128mg internal memory is a lot of pictures or not.
or this one

WHEW, found one and ordered it. Digital Frames is a confusing world indeed!!! Found a 2GB SD card on ebay to go with it (which should hold a ZILLION pictures) So my plan is to down load pics and then send it to my brother and sister to download. When my Dad gets the frame it will be loaded and ready to go.

THANKS, I so totally NOT a computer GEEK. I have a printer/scanner/copier that has a card port and everyone keeps assuring me it will be easy  for them maybe!!!! Luckily my Brother and Sister are much better at that sort of thing.

I just got an email from my sister (we don't talk much) telling me she got him a digital key chain for christmas. Great minds think alike I guess.
