Food aggression problems solved

Rags thinks she's the boss and expects Pepsi to back away if she approached his food bowl. I recently taught Pepsi to stay and ignore her.
That created even more fights. Well unless I stand there as a block to keep Rags from making eye contact. Which is quite exhausting as she is always trying to circle round and come at him from another direction.

Rags eats last, always has. I feed Lacey first, then Pepsi, then Rags.
How did I solved the food aggression issues with Rags? It's simple.
Keep her distracted and feed her slowly.

After Pepsi gets his bowl, I walk over to Rags bowl.
I first make her sit, then I slowly pour in a little bit of food. Her immediate reaction is the look like, "Is that all I'm getting?" 8O I shake my head and tell her to eat what's in her bowl. She eats, then she gets another pour of kibble. I do this until Pepsi is done with his food. Then I will dump the rest of Rags' food in her bowl, which by that time is not a lot.

All fighting has stopped, no more barking or intimidating at dinner time. Well okay not all barking is gone. Rags barks from the time I get the measuring cup to get Lacey her food until Rags gets hers and starts eating. But no more growling or attacks.

Now the only problem is, I have to stand there feeding Rags until Pepsi is done with his dinner.... I guess that's really not bad, as long as there is no fighting I can deal with standing for 5 minutes.

Elissa: It sounds like you have found a solution..congrats. Pull out a chair and sitdown while you feed...
Cool, E! Good job on finding a solution. Maybe in time after doing it this way for a while Rags will forget about wanting to bully Pepsi and you can feed them all together again.
I'm glad that's working for you! Probably a silly question, but couldn't you just put her in another room to eat? I'm just thinking so you don't have to sit there with her.
Great job Elissa!
Doesn't make you feel wonderful
when you've outsmarted them?
I've had similiar issues with Frank and Daphne when they eat too. Daphne is the aggressor in my house. But they they both bark so freakin loud. So I stand there while they eat and everything is fine. No barking or growling. It is so weird to me that my fluffy luv pups get so crazy when food is around. (Not treats, just when I put a bowl on the floor.) But I must admit I get a little crazy too when someone takes the last piece of cake I had been dreaming about.

Good idea, I do get tired standing there.

Thanks Steph, I do hope this is only temporary, or I'll need to find a comfy stool.

I have tried feeding her in the other room, but she will not touch her food until she knows she's not able to eat anyone elses dinner first.
We have no crate set up, as none of the dogs use one and we really don't have extra room for it in the house. It's HUGE!

I have tried feeding her outside, but all she does is stand by the door and bark like a maniac until I let her in. So my solution is what seems to have worked best so far. I have completely stopped her habit of barking and growling her way through a meal. Now she's too busy focuses on the next pour of the measuring cup.

LOL, I get crazy when someone steals my last chocolate.

I know what you mean about the barking. :twitch:
I tried just standing there, but Rags could careless. She goes right for Pepsi bowl. I have to keep her attention the entire feeding time, which I learned the other day.... when I walked away to go to the oven for a second. There was still food left her bowl, but because I walked away she took over for Pepsi's dinner.
