Holiday Card - mailing list

I had my cards printed yesterday. Oh my gosh! They are so cute, if I say so myself.

My goal is to get them addressed this week, and get them mailed over the weekend or the beginning of next week.

I love this!!!

Let the games begin!

You are too organised!!

I haven't even got mine printed yet!!

Must do it this week!
 I expect mine to arrive today or tomorrow. It's become a tradition to spend the day after Thanksgiving getting my cards ready to mail.
I did not get a picture of Bob the Wonder Pony this year :( so I hope people will be happy with regular cards from me.
Regular cards are wonderful too
I can't wait to start getting them!!! My husband will probably be home and he used to race me to the mailbox. He wouldn't knock down a preggers woman would he? I'd get tossed half way down the street from the ice last time!

Mine will be ready for pick-up on the 21st but I don't know when I will address them (probably the weekend). Already bought the stamps!
With having surgery I missed taking the pictures with Santa like we did last year. So now I have to wait until this coming weekend and we are going to try to take some ourselves and get at least one good shot with the dogs that can be used on Xmas cards.
You guys are WAY to organized... :)
Y'all are killing me here! I haven't even thought about the picture yet. 8O

But, I can't wait to start getting your cards!! :D
i have my cards, just need to get the photos copied.....then find the energy to actually write....lol.......
Mine didn't come today :(
I missed out on the mailing list. I'm just a little bit too late.
Okay Deb, you are obviously not having 36 people to Thanksgiving Dinner! Otherwise, the holiday card would be the last thing on your mind. And two days after Turkey Day, you are obviously not co-hosting your in-law's 50th Wedding Anniversary party, with over 80 people, and houseguests for the next week.

(Folks, if my cards are a little late, you'll know why.) 8)

Oh my! Good Luck!
I'm SOOOOO relieved to hear that other folk haven't all gotten theirs done already   Mine have to wait till we get home from my last show, on the 1st, or thereabouts.

Nope, we are only having 6 this year, which to me is alittle sad.

How exciting for you to be having so many celebrations! Congrats to your in-laws from Tony and me (I think Tony knows your F-I-L)
Yes, the next week should be highly entertaining. It's all good! Thank God we are (mostly) catering the 50th, or I'd really be a raving lunatic. (Greeks can never fully cater.....my MIL came over and we spent a day making Greek pastries for the party....nobody can make baklava like my MIL!) 8)

Deb, have a great Turkey Day, and enjoy all of your yummy food!

Weasel!!!

I just got my pictures back from the photographer!! Im going to call in sick from work just so I can get them all done and in the mail!!!
Mine came last week but I spent most of the weekend studying. I got the labels on the envelopes but that is about all.
So how many people are doing 1 sheet or postcard looking cards and how many people are doing fold over type cards?
It seems like the postcard style cards aren't as exciting as the old fashioned style cards. And when you right notes on the back of the postcard style ones, does the writing take away from the picture? It seems like the ones I've seen are pretty heavy so if you don't push hard, it won't show through.

Also, the postcard style are cheaper and can be printed in an hour. The fold over card will take 2 whole days!!! I'm still amazed at some technology!!
I use post card style cards and write on the back. I use a rollerball or felt tip and it doesn't damage the picture. I actually like the post card style for displaying better than the fold over. But they are all nice.
I use the vertical postcard type also. I just think they hang better.
Okay, that's 2 good votes for Postcard style!!!
I forgot, but were you on the list last year? I think 90% of the cards were the postcard ones due to price and convenience. They're wonderful and I didn't have any problems with the ink being seen on the other side of the picture! The regular ones are great too but because they don't come readily available to personalize with your own photo (even though they exist) ...that's why people have moved to one-sided postcards.
My SIL buys the folded cards that have apocket to slip a picture in. She gets them after Christmas for the following Christmas and saves. Reprints of a picture are less expensive than the cards so she ends up with a photo card at a much lower cost. I, on the other hand, am never that organized
I'm sure I'll probably do the postcard style, too. Although, at this moment, I've not got the foggiest idea of what to do for a photo. I've got that penciled in for this coming weekend, though. Bathe the wigglebums, decorate house, take pictures....let the fun begin!! :D
I'm a traditionalist so I'm using the fold-over card. Making my own. We have a color printer/copier here at work, so I'm kinda cheating and doing them here!
IT'S NOT CHEATING, no matter what you do, It's YOUR card.

It should also be mentioned that even "non sheepie" cards are welcomed and enjoyed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tasker's Mom wrote:

Absolutely!!!! All cards are welcome! I love having a full mail box, that isn't filled with bills and junk mail.

I really love when the cards arrive. Its the best feeling!

Same here. I have had my photo location planned out for a year and when we went the day after Thanksgiving it wasn't decorated yet. So my son says wait another week and try again.

I was hoping to get them done before then and it looks like the weather forecast is rainy for this coming weekend. :( AND I had a well groomed sheepie the day after Thanksgiving - who knows what I will have the next time I go.
Drezzie's Mom wrote:

I always make my own but, then again, I always make my own stuff anyway. If I design it myself, I get exactly what I want!

To be honest, I don't like the postcard style because I can't stand them up on anything so I wind up with a pile of cards that I can only look at if I sift through them. I strongly encourage the fold over please!
Maybe I'll do half and half since this hot button issue seems to have the forum divided!!!!
Maybe we could all just fold our post card cards before we send them to Jill
Maybe I'll do postcard style and include a custom kickstand for Jill!!!
Tasker's Mom wrote:

That is the funniest thing I've read or heard all day!!!!

Jill, mine will be the traditional fold over cards, but no pics.
I don't know....I just don't know.

I love ALL the cards! Folded, postcard, vertical/horizontal, pictures, no pictures, homemade, store bought, with checks, without checks (hee hee). I just love them all. And I think most of us hang them, so it shouldn't matter if they stand.

Like I said, I love them all. I love knowing people (whom technically I don't even know) are out there thinking of my family at holiday time, and sending us greetings!

Deb,

I don't want to make you feel bad but apparently the check that you sent me last year fell out. I will be watching for it this year. 8)

I like this idea. Could everyone please include a kickstand for me? Thanks in advance!
I'll give you a kick.......................................

 Y'all kill me!!

Okay - one kick stand for Jill, one check for Deb & Judi....any other special requests??
Sorry, my checks have been delayed at the printer, ya'll just have to wait til next year

Well, if we're tossing out requests, I'll take a check, too. In fact, if you're handy, you could incorporate it into the stand.
Hey people!!! I just came from Michael's (The craft store not some guy's house! ) and they have packs of cards that hold pics for 1 dollar!!! How much? 1 DOLLAR!!!!
8 cards and envelopes with cute borders = $1.00

I even bought a pack especially for Darcy. You can only guess what they look like.

So guess I settled on what I'm doing! Jill wins, Ginny loses. Folded cards it is!
Maxmm wrote:

one of two things...shoes or irons
Wow, Mandy, that's pretty cheap. Can't beat $1 for cards.

Sorry, Jill, I'm not very crafty, so you'll have to accept the check as seperate from the stand.
oh and my cards are fold overs.....but dont forget to check out the back side of the card....there is an extra surprise on the back!!

oh, and i want in on the check thingy....

You guys got it!!!
I've been considering following tradition this year and again have Darcy on the front cover of the oes.org card. I'm thinking either the recovery room pic, or the broken nose pic. Any preferences?

Seeing as how busy we are and now my computer is barely able to run Internet Explorer, getting a card done isn't happening here yet....

**sniff** thanks ron, you know how to make a girl feel loved
Okay, I just finished writing something in 40 cards. I wanted to finish all of them, but when my sentences start drifting off, and I'm forced to go in an entirely different direction than I intended (message wise) ....it's time to put the pen down. Night.

For those people who are still looking for something to do for their cards, check out Danita's new design! http://www.cafepress.com/danitashop.84743965

I might have to get that design on the hoodie.
That one is really cute Mandy (and Danita!)
I think it would be wonderful for me to wear on a sweatshirt to our races and weight pulls this winter. :D Go sheepie power! :D
Oh, I always forget how cute Danita's drawings are. I really like the winter sheepie design.

By the way, I prefer cash in my card.
Darn it, Paula! I already mailed your card with a check.

Maybe, next year.

Think I could pursade Danita to do a sheepie/chanukkah design? I would love that! And...I've never seen anything like that!
A Chanukkah sheepie design...how cool would that be???
I want to see how Danita would make a sheepdog in a yamulka (sp?). I think that would be completely awesome!

Yep, spinning a dreidel and eatting a latke, with a menorah buring brightly behind him! And his bubbe at the stove cooking, and his zadie sleeping in a rocking chair.

OOOPS! Guess I'm getting carried away!
did someone say latke?????????

with sour cream?????????????

:D Sour cream AND apple sauce!!! Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! My kids eat them faster than I can get them out of the pan!!!
Yeah!!! Darcy want's to eat something!!! My family doesn't like latkes. My husband will eat them...the girls don't even eat potatoes unless they are fries. More for me! I seriously have a house full of goyem.

Ack! How can anyone not LOVE potatoes?! I think they are one of my desert island foods...

Mmmm, latkes...

hehe...I am Goyem 8) but my saving grace is that im also polish........ahhhh the good ole food!! now if i could find someone to MAKE them for me, id be allllllll set
Okay, for those of us gentiles out here, define the following:

goyem
zadie
what the shawl/scarf is that is often seen accompanying the yamulke (and spell that for us too!!!)

And someone make me some latkes!! I swear that I'll share them with Darcy!!!
I don't know what is wrong with those girls. I am Polish too Darcy, and Russian, German and Hungarian. Which translates to: I can cook, but my family is too white bread for the ethnic stuff. "Sigh"
prayer shawl, goyem are non-jews, and Zadie is Grandpa.
or a talis is a prayer shawl, and yarmulke.
I think that is proper spelling...sorry, never went to Hebrew school. Ask Elissa.
And...Bubie is grandmother.

I don't think there is a proper English way to spell those words, since the symbols used to spell in Hebrew are different. So...its (I can't spell this either) spelled phonetically.

More:

dreidel = spinning top toy
Menorah = Candle holder for 8 candles and 1 lead candle to light the others.

Shalom=what I wish all of you, Peace (also hello. We are a complicated people!)
wendy58 wrote:

i so understand your pain.....i married a good ole irish boy who hates his peoples ethnic foods too....whaaa???????

when i balked at his hate of corned beef and cabbage, pot roast, buuble and squeek he balked back and told me in no uncertain terms that those were NOT his peoples food, POTATOES were his peoples food....

sigh ...too bad he only likes those mashed and baked.....

**slaps forehead and sighs**
Too funny Darcy. If you are ever in my area, I will make you latkes any time of the year. Very messy but worth it.
Oops! My husband is a protestant minister's son. Not one of the kids in my family married into their own faith.
ill make anyone my favorite pasties (perogie)....beef and cabbage....its not worth making them for myself, but they are so darn good......and since brian HATES them, i never get to make them......

dont think i wont find a way to make this work in my favor....i could be a latke junkie for all you know....

ps....applesauce should never be eaten with the latkes only on the side....(its my sense of sweet ruining a perfectly good thing)....
Tony, my husband, is Catholic Polish Sicilian. He loves latkes. His last name is Wojciechowski, which is why, I remain, Jacobson.

Apple sauce NEVER on top! Only on the side!
I don't like applesauce on them either, just tons of sour cream. I love perogies. I had a boyfriend whose family was Ukrainian...she made cheese and potato kind. Never had them with any other fillings. She made the best though.

I don't blame you for Jacobson, writing that Wojo-what's it name on your Holiday card took 3 checks to make sure I had all the right letters there and in the right order.
Can someone please tell me how to make Latkes? Y'all know us southerners don't get to eat these unless we travel north of the Mason-Dixon.

It wasn't too long ago I discovered perogies, thanks to an Italian Yankee co-worker. :o

after the first 7 consonants, it doesnt really matter anyway
Here ya go...I always add a little baking powder, maybe 1/2 tsp.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS

1 small onion
3 russet potatoes
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper
1/2 to 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

RECIPE METHOD

Coarsely grate the onion into a large bowl. Peel the potatoes and coarsely grate them into the onions. Stir in the flour, eggs, salt and pepper.

Heat about 1/3 cup oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. Drop heaping tablespoons of the mixture into the oil and flatten with the back of the spoon. Fry, flipping once or twice, until crisp and brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels. Repeat until all the latkes are fried, adding more oil as needed.
If I don't have russets on hand, can I use the small red potatoes?
Yea, Tammy. I actually use the red ones. Use about 6 - 8 good sized ones. And I now use a food processor instead of hand grating. If you do that, put the grated potatoes in a strainer to get the extra liquid out.

And serve with sour cream and applesauce on the side. Oh! And don't burn yourself while you fry! I do that every year
I received my first holiday card today!!! Thanks Deb for being way too efficient!!!!
It's a curse and a joy!

They reheat soggy-er, but still with great flavor. You can also freeze them.

Yeah, I knew the pork was a no-no, but it was special request, so what are ya gonna do?? But, I've gotta tell ya, the flavors work well together, especially with the applesauce.

Darcy the red velvet cake is to die for. You must try it! Even in the shape of an armadillo.
Ginny, I will probably be the last to get mine out, I can't pick them up till next week :( :(
I finally "bit the bullet" and got them ready to mail today. In the past I have taken the time to write notes and sign them but I realized this morning that if I waited for that they would never go out. So this momrning I stuffed and stamped them without notes :( but at least they will get in the mail this week.
loried wrote:

We may be in a race for last :) We haven't even taken Max's picture yet. My brother is a photographer, and, seems we are always on the "waiting" list. Might have to resort to John and I taking a whirl ourselves at taking his picture this week!
I'll say what I say EVERY year....... One of the joys of everyone mailing them out at different times is the steady stream of sheepies arriving in the mailbox. IMAGINE if everyone mailed them at the same time, we get a mailbox full in a matter of a few days and taht would be it.

EVEN the cards that don't get mailed til AFTER the holiday (someone always runs out of time) are a WONDERFUL gift. The holidays are over you are back to work and SURPRISE there in your mailbox is a sheepie. IT'S A WONDERFUL THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ginny...you nailed it! I love the way they stream in. And...at the end, when I think no more are coming, I LOVE that last one that comes trickling in!
Mine still aren't made yet, so we will definitely be slow this year. :(
I have 2 so far (thanks Deb and Jo), and I bet more will appear in the morning with the mail. :D
I got my first two cards on saturday!!

Paula O and Boo baby!

I'm so excited to go home and get the post now!!

have all of mine mailed out except for the out of countryiers...
Mine are DONE!!!!! Woo-Hoo! :phew:

Mailing them out today! :D
Sheepie Mail! Sheepie Mail!
I'm so excited! I have mine, just have to address and mail them :yay:
It's almost 1 am and I just finished addressing all the cards...my printer doesn't work so did it all by hand. I'm blurry eyed and have writers cramp so those of you with W-Y's last names, will think an ole lady wrote the address for me. :D

I had planned on getting pics with Santa last Saturday but we were hit with a major blizzard...so I didn't venture out. I think Santa may have even cancelled his photo shoot that day.

What to do?

I frantically searched for appropriate pics and with 27 furballs in my house I didn't want to leave any of them out..but in the end I did. I chose one pic of one of my furkids as a pup and this evening when everyone was warm and cosy in their homes I headed out to Walmart with my one photo.

Of course Murphy's Law would dictact the one machine used to make cards was being used, although the rest of the store was empty. :? Not only was it in use but the woman had a pile of photos. I stood for over an hour behind her and although she was apologetic there was nothing I could do but wait.

My turn finally! I finally completed and look up to see the time..9 pm. I can't wait to finish and go home. Machine messed up and someone had to come and fix it...grumble grumble...it was now 10 pm and I wondered how the dogs were doing without going for their 10 pm bathroom outdoor time when I'm usually home to let them out one last time for the night.

The photoguy tells me if I wait 20 mins he'll print off 150 for me ..same price as 100 would have cost. Yipiii!!! Oh drat...means waiting another 20 mins...but I decide it's better to have it all done than to fight crowds and come back again.

I stock up on petfood in the meantime and load up my car. The snow lasted 2 days and now it's raining so hard there's been floods all over my area. I'm soaked and exhausted.

10:45 pm ..hadn't even realized the store closed at 11pm , I get paged..photos are ready!!!

12:42 I just finished hand writing all the addresses them...YEAH!!!!!!!

Have to get up at 6 am zzzzzzzzzzzz

Now only need to stuff and place stamps on them...and I'm done!!!!!!

OKay I'm going to bed now....ZZZZZZZZZ

Next year I'm making sure I start earlier. 8O

I've gotten from Deborah (my first!), Mrs. J. in Alaska, and Darcy.

My arm has been giving me problems this past week so I can write and address only 4 cards a day. I sent the out of country ones first. Talk about trickling, although I figure they will all be done in 8 more days.
WHEW!! Mine are in the mail!!!!!!!!!! A snow storm on Monday prevented a trip to the post office. Yesterday was just as bad but I MADE Doug stop. The mail truck was early but I crabbed enough that he waited while I stamped the cards (what is the point of having a schedule posted if you are going to take the mail 15 minutes early  ).
I've been trying to get the little boys to Petsmart for a picture with Santa to put in the cards, so far it hasn't worked out  . i did send out a few so I'm going with the trickle theory as well :) .
We took Pirate and Keira to Petsmart two years ago. Keira was so terrified, that in the picture she looked like she was being tortured! It was pathetic!
:( :( :(
A friend gave me the perfect picture for my cards last night. I went right out and had them made!! When you see them, you will know it is Chewie, that's for sure.........

Now to sit down and start writing. :)
I've gotten three cards so far (Darcy's, Jo's & Deb's) and they're all delightful!!

I ordered mine yesterday, so I should have them in the mail by the end of next week. :D

This is so much fun! :P
Domestic carsd are just about ready to go...after I climb the foot of snow near the mailbox :D
I got two cards today from some attractive chicks on the board. Mr. J had to look twice. ;) Thanks Darcy and Maxmm.
WooHoo!!!! I sent them out a bit ago and was beginning to worry that I messed up the postage and I was going to be getting them all back!

Oh my gosh! I musta missed it too. And I was just thinking about them this morning!

Welcome home, Mr. J!!!!
Thanks all (in this thread and the biscotti one where folks replied to same thing) :)

I didn't make a post b/c things have been so hectic. Mr. J came home sick. We bought a brand new leather odyssey the other day that I'm scared to death to drive. I am with every new car. And the past few days, lil J has been very very sick, so I've been busy! Not to mention, I'm still in disbelief that my husband is home for GOOD! I keep expecting him to leave again. My son has totally warmed up to him. He has done everything he won't let others do include let him touch him. He mimics his every move from trying to shave to putting on deodorant. Still working on letting him kiss or hold him, but I can tell it's coming!
Woohoo! That's awesome! (Not the being sick part, but about him being home and lil J being happy to have him around).

So, when are you guys leaving AK?
Mrs J, we are looking forward to lots of pics when you have time
I was thinking of posting the news...but thought I'd better let Mrs.J have first option!

Scott, Abby, Eggbert and I went over to visit the J family, and say welcome home to Mr. J.... Sorry to hear that Mr. J .is feeling so crummy (he was knocking back Robbetussen already when we were there :( ) He needs to get better soon so we can have a sheepie day at OUR house next! :D ( no, by the way...none of us thought to take pics... )
Chewie cards are done and dropped off at the post office tonight . :D :D
I have mailed my cards to the US today so thats the last of them gone!

I've had some already which have been great and now I can't wait to go home and get the post!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!
Mine all went out yesterday - domestic and international. Bailey has gotten 8 cards already and they're all beautiful! I haven't gotten a single non-sheepie card yet  Nor have I sent any!
Mine have all gone out today, too, both domestic and international. Next week should be a banner week for receiving sheepie cards!! :D
:clappurple: I can't wait!!!!
Too many pages in this one. I'll start a new one for card exchange talk!
