Schipperkes are a recognized breed of purebred dog. Their "average" lifespan is 20 yrs. They are also a small dog.
Your dog has a way to go before record-breaking: http://www.oes.org/page2/9089~Interesti ... _dogs.html

Worlds oldest dog..... The oldest dog that has been reliably documented was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months!
Congratulations on your pug and his grand age. Smaller breeds seem to have a longer life span then larger breeds. 17 is awesome and I hope you have him around to celebrate that milestone in the new year. :D

We just lost an OES earlier this year, she was 18 years and 1 week old when she crossed the bridge.

Another member here has a blue heeler cross and he turned 18 this year and still going strong.
There was a 22 yr old Chihuahua that was on the Chihuahua list last year. Not sure if the dog is still alive though.
It's amazing that your dog has lived even one day after being pureed.
Was that Ron??? Sounded like him. LOL
