We were out of town this weekend so the boys stayed at a doggie day care for 3 days. We got home on Monday early afternoon so the boys had breakfast at the doggie day care, dinner at home.

On Tuesday morning Boni had diarrhea. So, I didn't give him breakfast or dinner (poor puppy was looking at me with those puppy eyes and was following me as if to say "I think you've forgotten something!" Puppydog Eyes It was heartbreaking! Crying or Very sad )
At the end I did give him a can of Pumpkin pure 100% natural and this morning his poo was getting better (smelling like a pumpkin! Laughing ).

I gave him a little dry food for breakfast and now he had diarrhea 4 more times. Sad

I'm thinking he might have gotten something at the day care that he is allergic to because Lumpi is eating and pooing fine. Boni on the other hand follows me around and wants to sit in my lap all the time - even now when I'm typing this.

We have Metronidazole for his diarrhea but I don't want to give him that yet. I would prefer his body to work it out. I hope this make sense...I don't just want to stop his diarrhea, I want to know if he is sick...and then get him better.

Or should I just give him the medicine and if he still has diarrhea take him to the vet?
I'd just take a sample to the vet and have them run it to see if he picked up a parasite or something. In the meantime, you can give him the meds so he'll be more comfortable and then see what the vet says after the test comes back on the poo. If nothing's in the poo, then I'd take him to the vet to see if he or she can see something else going on.
Thanks Jill. Do you think I should feed him tonight or wait until the morning?
Just keep an eye on him and you can give him a real small meal tonight of boiled rice, with a little bit of poached chicken in it, no skin no fat from the chook.

Make it about a cupfull all up and see what happens after, don't overload him with too much at the moment.

You already have stopped food for a day, this will satisfy him a bit until you know wether the bowel movements are firming up.

Take note too, don't rule out some sort of bug because the other one is showing no signs yet, with mine it was a good 3 days later that she started after the first one.

I would lay off the metronidazole till you are certain it is not getting better because maybe he just had something to eat at the care centre that caused just maybe a dietry upset. If it starts to firm on it's own great, if not I would wait till you consult with a vet to see if it is bug related before giving him the metronidazole.
Thank you Lisa! They both eat rice every day so today I just put some pumpkin pure in it. He didn't want to eat it first only from my hand. Puppydog Eyes I gave him a cup of rice and he only ate 3/4 of it.

He also threw up after dinner but it was very watery so I think he just drank too much. We did call the vet and we have an appointment tomorrow morning. Even if he it's not a big deal, I like to know what is wrong with my puppies.

Thanks for both of you for your advice and help.
hope your kids get well soon .been through all of that not fun!!
Poor Boni. Hope he is feeling better this morning. As far as the Metronidazole/Flagyl goes, Oscar is on it every day for maintenance, and both my regular and holistic vets approve of using it. The way is was explained to me is that, though it is an antibiotic, it helps the good flora in the gut to prosper and proliferate, while keeping the nasties in check.

I'm sure your vet can explain it more thoroughly.

It's been a lifesaver for us!

Does Boni like scrambled eggs?

They are supposed to help if you have diarrhea Confused
How is Boni doing today? Nothing like diarreah...sigh...poor baby......and yes, those eyes staring at food is heart breaking.....
Thank you all for your advice and concerns! Boni ate his dinner tonight!!!! Yay!!! We went to the vet this morning and he lost 2Lbs in the last couple of days so he is 66 Lbs now. Sad BUT the vet said he looks great, temperature was normal, he said he had beautiful teeth and that he was very muscular! Mr. Green

(We weighed Lumpi too and he is 96.6 Lbs!!! - when we adopted him we were told he wouldn't be more than 35 Lbs. Laughing)

So, the vet told me to give him the Metronidazole and see if his poo gets better in 3-4 days. If not, I have to take him back. I put a pill in his breakfast and I think he accidentally bit through it because after the first two mouth full of food he started to pick his food and chew every bit into little pieces. He would only eat some from my hand. Crying or Very sad

I was very worried about him all day but he ate all of his dinner - including hidden pill. I cook rice for them so it was also what the vet recommended. I am so happy he ate!!!! Now, I just have to make sure his poo is "harder" too. Laughing

They also get raw eggs every other day and Boni loves everything. I've never heard that scrambled eggs are good when you have diarrhea. Good to know though.

Thank you guys again!!!! Kiss
