It's a sign of the apocalypse

My families have decided that it would be a neat idea to have Christmas dinner at my house this year because we all needed to change up our traditions.
You know what that means? It means the Mandy has to cook!!!!

I'm debating doing everything out of boxes and cans. Think anyone would mind?

I guess it depends on how bad your cooking is :D You could go the semi-homemade route and do a mix. :D
the only thing scarier is that you actually might have to IRON your table cloths.....hmmm do you own any???hehehehe...

take thee to the salvation army!!!!!!! I hear they can hook you up!
I hear you can buy a pre made dinner from Wegmans  or there is always TV dinners (now THAT is a NEW tradition)

I have lots of vintage tablecloths!!! And I plan to let them all be wrinkled!!!
I hire out Mandy.

Nothing wrong with ordering your meal from somewhere. I know lots of Grocery stores offer that.

I prefer to cook.... I love cooking for Thanksgiving.
Though I am stuck going to my MIL's so I won't be cooking a Turkey. :(

I will be talking my best friend through making her first Turkey though. She's in Chicago.... She'll be fine... if she follows my directions.

I learned how to make a Turkey from a guy, my old Neighbor and friend.
They turn out picture perfect every time. After my Mom moved to California I decided we should have Thanksgiving at my parent's house, at least one more time before it sold. Dad was still living there.

My Aunt was so shocked when she saw the Turkey come out of the oven. She said, "OMG, that looks like it's right out of a Magazine!" Then she said, "I didn't know you could cook, Elissa?" I said, "Yeah, I don't take after my Mom, I take after my Grandma."

Not only did it look good, but I heard compliments on the taste from everyone. We were all used to having my Aunt's (other Aunt) dried out Turkeys. YUCK!!
Why not change the tradition totally and do a pitch-in?

Assign the really tough stuff to other family members  ...like I do
and don't use any tablecloths 8)

My husband's family has an aversion to dog hair so we don't have to worry about them showing up. :D
Sometimes, fancy schmancy catering services offer fancy schmancy Thanksgiving meals to go.

They are used to cooking good quality foods in large quantity.

I remember my parents ordering T-day dinner from one about 25 years ago. It was fantastic.

Nowadays almost all of the groceries are offering similar. If you want, you could still cook the turkey and order a bunch of the traditional sides, and still claim the cooking!
Ugh. I hate cooking the turkey. I'd rather make 30 side dishes than just the turkey...
Last year for my Dad for Christmas I had Dinner delievered FED EX. It came from someplace call Cajun Grocery and the Turducken and all the sides arrived packed in ice and ready to pop in the oven. He claimed it was quite tasty.

Take the approach, and do the reverse then! LOL
Turkey is so easy!! I don't understand the aversion to cooking it. :?

Mandy, if you can talk Darcy into ironing the tableclothes for you, I'll help you in the kitchen.

For me, I think it's because no one in my family eats anything but the white meat, and we don't eat the skin or anything, so I think I feel it's just too big of a production if all we really end up eating is the breast. And I don't stuff mine because of salmonella...so I guess I feel put out to make a nice, big pretty looking turkey, but people only eat one part of it.
If that's the case, then just fix the turkey breast. It's even simpler and takes much less time to cook. You can buy them fresh or frozen and prepare the same way you would the whole turkey, just faster. :D
mandy...tammy is right...mail me your linens and ill iron them for you, you big sissy girl....suck it up and cook!
Seriously, I'll do it. All you have to do is come and
pick it up on Weds night and heat it up on T-day.

But they like the LOOK of the whole turkey.

I'm definitely only doing the breast this year, though, since it's only going to be me and Cam and maybe my brother. And maybe not even Cam

awwww....it will be okay....ill probably be laying on someones sofa doing nothing.....baa humbug.....
lol, poor me, right?
Or go with one of Ginny's Darwinian masterpieces; the Turducken!

There are no legs or wings on one of those, is there?

  No, I'm sure they won't mind at all that's probably what they're expecting. :P They are probably really excited to come and enjoy their sandwiches with you! And I'm sure they will be pleasantly surprised to dine on wrinkled tablescloths instead of plastic. A lot to be said for wrinkles, sometimes they hide the stains  :P
How many people is it? Just take them out somewhere!
I have a spouse who doesn't like Turkey......
Well, there's Stovetop, Bob Evans mashed and sweet potatoes, Heintz gravy, Ocean Spray cranberry sauce, Sara Lee pies.......you could do it out of boxes and cans :D
So my little sister did Thanksgiving dinner meaning that I have to at least surpass her work for my Christmas dinner. She cheated and had her boyfriend's mom handle the turkey in a roaster. Everything else was made from scratch.
Here's the real kicker. She told me that I had to make dessert so I made chocolate cherry cake and no one ate it!!! They said that they were too full from dinner for dessert! I'm saving the cake for Christmas dinner and making everyone eat it then!!
Well, it's getting pretty close, Mandy. Do you have the menu planned out yet? Are you having Ham or Turkey?
i hope you still have the chocolate cherry cake!
The guest list keeps changing so I'm still not sure what the menu will be yet. I think I should surprise everyone by not being here when they arrive!!!!

And the cops ate all the cake at work!
Okay, looks like it's going to be 11 people for dinner. Here's what I'm working on:
Roast Beef
Ham
Mashed Sweet Potatoes
Roasted Red Potatoes
Stuffing (Stove Top!!!)
Beef gravy
Green Beans
Baked Corn

Someone's bringing dessert. Anything else I should think about? I'm working on planning alcohol and lots of it!!!
Dinner rolls?? I personally would be OK with the dressing, but lots would still expect a bread or rolls. And real butter for the veggies (and rolls if you have them).
Sounds yummy! :D
Forgot about rolls, good call!!

What else? It seems like something major is missing!

Hmm, maybe just someone who knows what they're doing?

Do you have any vegetarians?

I become even more brazen with alcohol in me, you just wait and see what I cook if I'm all liquored up!!!

And no, no vegetarians. That would be sacrilege in Central PA. Although Sam's Club has the best red pepper hummus, that might have to be added to the menu.

:D :D :D Don't get too brazen, you might burn your house down :D :D :D
Sounds like a great menu---and the alcohol sounds like the best part
Well Mandy - inquiring minds want to know - how did your dinner turn out?? :D

Years and YEARS ago, I read that comedian Phyllis Diller (anyone remember her?) gave a dinner party, and served TV dinners. That's when they were still in little metal trays and had to be cooked in the oven. Her guests were given a choice of turkey or fried chicken!

It went well. I made a ton of food and it turned out pretty well. I didn't like the cut of beef that I had. It was a little tough. I marinated in an apple cider marinaded so it tasted good but was a bit chewy 8O ! I did a honey ham and basted it in Coke. That tasted really good!
I have a huge pot of mashed sweet potatoes left so if anybody wants any, let me know. I also have a couple of bottles of champagne and several partial bottles of wine left over. No desserts left!!!! Everybody took the dessert left overs with them! Weasels!!

Everybody was super pleased and my sister in law took pictures of the table and the food so I'll have to see if she's sending those over.
Sounds like it was a huge success!!!!!

We need to trade - I have a ton of desserts left over - but there's no such thing as leftover wine at my house
I think you can freeze the mashed sweet potatoes in individual servings if you can't eat them all.

Sounds like it was a successful meal :D
Sounds like Christmas with The Mandy was a success!! :clappurple: Do ask your SIL for pics because I'd really like to see.

Partial bottles of wine and be poured into ice cube trays and frozen, too. Pop one out and use it in a recipe or for marinade. :)

Or pop it in your mouth during an emergency... 8O

I was just going to ask if I could put sticks in them and turn them into popsicles!
