first question here - where to sleep?

we have just got Wilbur our 5 month old OES - we got him a lovely big dog cushion and we where given his "blanket".

We laid the blanket over this new big cushion and he just doesnt want to have anything to do with it?

He appears to prefer sleeping directly on the floor - we have wooden floors throughout the house am thinking thats its possibly cooler for him? I believe the previous owners used to make him sleep outside in his dog house they lived in Ohio we live in San Antonio... AC is on allday since i work from home...

doesnt bother me really where he sleeps just thought it would be nice for him to sleep on a cushion as opposed to the floor?

Most of our sheepies prefer the cold floor. It IS better for their joints to sleep on something with cushion, but sometimes they choose for you ;)

It was tearing into my OES' elbow. All her hair was gone and it was so raw, and the vet basically said to at least try to find a place with carpet. Many dogs don't have this problem. She doesn't anymore even when she sleeps on the floor.

I try to lock her in our bedroom with access to the bathroom closed off (or else she'll head to the floor there)! Other than that, she has our bed. Took me over a year before I allowed that. I HATE that she takes up so much room. My husband says we just need a bigger bed.
I have 2 sheepies and a beardie....

I also have a tuffet right in front of the fireplace where they all can lay, if they want to...
Pearl, my 9yr.old Sheepie is the one that uses the tuffet the most....
Heart :hearts: , my 5 month old, Sheepie rarely lays there since she is young and always seems hot
and my boy, Cosmo, 4yr old Beardie runs across it from time to time....

Each is so different.... :excited: :lmt:
Ours have never wanted a bed (dog or human one). They get too hot.

Chewie is laying in front of a fan now - and it is cold here in MN!
His favorite spot is the cement porch floor, in front of the door.
If he lays in the bathroom, he pushes the rugs aside to lay on the linoleum.

When we are at shows, he prefers not to have a rug, blanket or pad in his crate. (He pushes it aside).
Obe likes to sleep on the bed directly under the ceiling fan. If he goes into his crate, it sits at the foot of the bed (stays open) and has one of his beds inside it. The crate is under the fan as well for the most part.
I have Violet OES and China Aussie Shepherd and they both seem to prefer the floor, tile mind you. When we had a walk in shower, that was Violets favorite place to sleep. We have a doggy chair in the livingroom and they both will lay on it also. They seem to enjoy the floors more though.
Baloo also prefers the floor to anything else. He pushes aside any blanket or towel I put in his crate when he is in it and when he is out we leave the door open all the time and he actually dragged out the blanket and pulled it all the way in to the living room to my husbands feet as if to say "HERE... Take this thing. I do not want it!" So we now leave it out. When he is tired he goes and lays in the kitchen floor under the window. If he is in our bedroom he will pull out the bathroom mat and lay on the floor.

He WILL use his pillow bed to lay on to chew on his toys....

At first I was totally confused by this. Our other dogs HATED being on the floor and had to have a bed, blanket or get on the couch. ANYTHING to keep his bum from touching *gasp* the carpet! [/b]
yup the floor- Stella pushes all the blankets out of the way too.
Zak who is older- loves a carpet or cushion- it is easier for him to get up. I bought a few small carpets and I have them in rooms he likes to lounge in.
always the floor...no matter where we are........he has a very nice bed...but he doesn't like it
We just moved and bought a cute new bed for Barney so it would fit in with the decor in the living room. We were practically BEGGING the poor dog to sit on it. We'd put his favorite bone on the very far edge of it so he'd have to get on the bed to reach it...we'd give him extra pets if he was sitting on the bed

He mostly prefers the plain old carpet. And actually, we have a blanket that he likes to lie on...but now that it's colder, I find that he sits on his bed a little more. It's like we catch him in the act--caught you sitting on your bed, Barney!
Now that is cold out Izzie spend more time with us either snoozing on the sofa or the carpeted floor. When it is warm she prefers the really cold tile downstairs or the wood in the kitchen. She always sleeps on my bed no matter the time of year.

Her absolute favorite this time of year is our small deck. She will snooze out their for hours. She has a bed out there, but only uses it for a head pillow right now. Come January and February she will actually sleep on the bed, but only because it is freezing outside.
She will occasionaly sleep for a bit on the couch or our bed but she loves anything cold like our hard wood floors or ceramic tiles....We had a welcome mat right in front of our door for a while and she would circle around it for a few minutes until we moved it so she could lie on the hardwood floor.

Jay
Bingley loves the floor. He'll push aside any blanket in his way to lie down on tile or even his crate bottom. As far as he's concerned, blankets are only for humping . . .
thanks for the quick response guys!

yep it looks like he likes the floor and hes picked the spot right in front of the door too! :)
Boni loves to sleep in the bathroom. That's his #1 place. #2 would be the kitchen. Hardly ever sleeps on the sofa or on the bed. If he comes up he never stays long as he gets too hot.

We actually had to take his nice and soft rug out from his crate, he wouldn't go in it. Since it's been removed, he loves his crate...
Pepsi's most favorite place is the tile floor in the entryway. Nice and cool.
Though at night be he always on the carpeted floor by the bed.
If he gets shaved down, he usually ends up cuddled in bed with me.

Rags can be found on the couch most times. During the day she likes to sleep in my daughter's room on the floor. There is laminate flooring in there which stays cool and that side of the house is always cooler.

Lacey, my terrier, prefers her dog bed.
I'm glad to hear this is common amoung sheepie's.
I tried to order a bed a few months back for Hudson from the U.S. to Canada but they wouldn't ship it here. In retropspect I think it was sign since Hudson always lies on the cold floor and probably would never have used the dog bed. We have limstone, marble, slate and hardwood in our home and he prefers any one of those surfaces verses broadloom. When we are in the family room which is carpeted, he'll walk around the furniture, pick up a toy but never stays long. He goes off to lie down somewhere cool but while come back every so often to check on us. He does not try to get up on the furniture nor does he stay on the bed long when invited.
Chewy uses one of our bathrooms as his "crate" it is linoleum its much cooler in there for him. (he NEVER sleeps in his bed) He does hate going in there, I think its due to him wanting to be where he can see everybody else. When I tell him time to go to bed he drops to the floor and rolls on his back he virtually never does this at any other time.(he knows I will pet him for a good five minutes)

He also stays in the tiled kitchen, he lays down and puts his head in the door way so he can see us in the living room.
