Hello From San Antonio

Hi Everyone,

Just wanteed to introduce ourselves, my name is Jay and i live in San Antonio, Texas, with my Fiancee Shauna and or little 3 year old boy Chance - i have just got back from a 3000+ mile round trip to pick up my wonderful 5month old Old English Sheepdog! :)

Our OES is called Wilbur - he has already shown great character!

The main reason for getting Wilbur was so he could befriend Chance. Chance is diagnosed with Angelmann Syndrome - this is somewhat similar to Autism/Cerebal Palsey. Straight after my 3 day road return trip from Ohio with Wilbur, the smiles and the laughter we heard from Chance when we first introduced the two made every mile worth it! :)

Thanks for reading - if there are any other people with or without children with disabilities with an OES and are from Texas i would love to hear back from you! :)

Welcome!!! Jay, Shauna, and little Chase....and of course Wilbur!!!!

What a great surprise for Chase.

I have a Therapy Dog and we have visited various facilities that help children with disablities.

I can tell you from my experiences, animals, especially dogs, DO make a difference. They totally accept all children with that unconditional love----and because of this, the children respond immediately!!!!!

Can't wait for pictures of your lovely family!!!!!

Sheepie hugs to all of you from all of us in St. Louis,MO!!!!
Welcome to the Forum from Australia to you all, just loved your introduction and how wonderful for chase to have a wonderful fur campanion in Wilbur.

Just priceless and yes well worth the long trip to unite these two together. :D

Look forward to hearing how chase and wilbur grow and bloom together and also plenty of photos that is a requirement here for all of us sheepie addicts.
Welcome Jay and family from Minnesota.

My Chewie is a therapy dog too - in fact he is my 4th therapy dog in the past 22 years. I really believe in the power of pet assisted therapy for all ages. Miracles happen, and pets are are a wonderful help.

Chewie's 1st official visit was to the special ed classroom where my homecare client is a student. The kids loved the dogs! :D
Hi Jay!

I look forward to your contributions and stories!
Howdy from a fellow Texan but currently placed in Alaska. Husband is from Houston, SIL is in San Antonio, and I'm from Ft.Hood. We may be heading back in a year esp since our friends are also moving there, but we aren't looking forward to it. Hot weather stinks ;) Either way, we'll definitely be in the San Antonio area a lot visiting family.

Glad to hear your dog is raising Chance's spirits. That warms my heart to hear.
What a long trip you made but sounds very worth it ! My youngest son has Asperger and used to be terrified of dogs to the point where he would run into traffic if he saw one approaching on the pavement .........now we have 5  he's fine but still a little wary and not what you'd call a dog lover but it made life a lot better :D

I am heading out to the store to get some batteries for our camera so expect to see some photos soon! :)

thanks again! :)
Welcome! My son has autism and all 3 of my dogs, 2 OES and a mutt are exceptional with him.
Especially our female OES, Rags. The day that Rags came to live with us, my son held her my her collar and walked with her around the yard, for about an hour and a half. I told him if she tries to pull away, he needed to let go. But she stayed right by his side and never tried to get away from him. Rags is his best friend.
It's amazing to see what a dog can do for a child with disabilities.
Congrats on Wilbur!!
May your son have many happy years with him.
Welcome from Colorado.
