Not squatting to poop

Hey everyone,I hope u guys can help shed some light. I dont have an OES, but I saw some related topics and thought I ask. I have a 6 month old Dobe. He took a fall about a week in a half ago, went to the vet they felt every bone on his body and said he was fine just shakin up.

Well heres the problem, He is not squating to poop, he will just walk and poop, not even sniff out a spot. This started shortly after his fall. He has always walked and urinated, now and then lifting his leg and still does. He still sits, runs and jumps, so I don't know what to think.

Any ideas?

I don't know if what your dog is doing is normal since it just started, but...

I do know my dog did this all the time as a puppy. Would keep walking and leave a trail of poop (esp on walks).
This a highly desired ability in sled dogs - they have to learn to poop while on the run.

But as far as your dog, I don't know if it is linked to the recent accident. What does your vet say?

If that's the case, Belle missed her calling. She can cover in excess of 50 yards. I know this because I'm the one following her with the baggie...It seems to be related to this incredible aversion she has to being anywhere near canine feces, including, but not limited to, her own. This from a dog who will travel miles to find just the right wild animal "scat" to roll in! And I know this because I took a long lunch today so I could take the kids to the dog park. Gorgeous, gorgeous day, marred only by Stinker-Belle.

Anyway, I think it's a little odd that it started following his fall, but if he can still sit OK...does he seem cognizant that he's defecating?

Ohh he know's he is going, I thought at first maybe he knocked his noggin and just didn't know. But yesturday he asked to go out so he could go...It's odd cuz he will turn and look at like whats that, but he starts to squat a lil just not all the way. He used to just go in piles and thats that, but now its like 2 feet away from each other. He sits fine and everything else, so I don;t know.
Any ideas on maybe anal glands need emptying? but I thought they would be constipated if this were the case...
Thanks everyone for ur imput though :D

By the way, he did go to the vet and they checked his hips by hand and said everything was fine, they did a whole body feel on him, every bone there was!
It's just weird that his pooping habit was normal then this changed after the accident.

His hips might be OK but I would suspect his spine is the problem, maybe a bit of inflamation or out slightly because of the fall.

His pooping habit now suggests that. They can loose a bit of feeling and control there if some problem with the spine and yep just walk along and it plonks out, due to the signals from the brain down the spinal cord not being able to have full or proper controll of toileting at the other end, especially in the poopie department.

I would have the vet re-check that area of the body if no improvement in the way he is pooping.

Best wishes with your Dobe. Hope all comes out well in the end.
So here is my update..I talked to the vet and he wants to do a rectal exam...Because all his behaviors are fine.

What u guys think about this?
I tend to think a neurological exam would be more relevant than a rectal exam. I agree with Lisa that maybe his spine got tweaked and is inflamed from the fall. When my Chum's neuro/spinal problems started, she also started the walk and poop. You could give him some time to rest to see if it resolves itself. It can take a couple of weeks for spinal inflammation to die down on its own. If there are no other symptoms (such as yelping when you touch him), I would feel comfortable waiting a bit and see if he improves.
My dogs have rarely ever pooped in one pile...they always spread it around. If he is ok in all other ways...I wouldn't worry too much.
