Last week, Keira started throwing up. It was clear, but had a terrible stench to it. In fact, she threw up in her crate, and when I got home, I was sure one of the dogs had had diarehha in the crate. That's how badly it smelled.

That happened on Thursday and Friday.

Over the weekend she seemed ok. I didn't see that she had thrown up, but who knows, with them going outside.

Yesterday and today, she has thrown up everything she's eaten. Keep in mind, she does not act sick. She's still spunky as ever, and always wants to play ball. Her stools are fine and firm.

I have an appointment at the Vet tomorrow. I hope I'm not overreacting, but I"m concerned. She's not a big eater to start with.

Any ideas as to what may be going on with her? She is only 3 years old. Thanks.
aweee... poor thing.

Could be elevated liver enzymes, which is what causes my maltese to do the same thing (starting at age 1, now she's 6).

Whatever it is, I hope it's nothing serious. *crosses fingers*

Big hugs to your baby!!
i dont know either.....let us know! Give her a kiss from me...and careful not to step in it.....bare feet in doggie puke doesnt feel good....
Mr. Green Oh...that is just gross.
Poor Keira. I hope she just has some little bug and will be better soon!

My cat puked like that once, except it wasn't clear. But it was the WORST smell EVER.
Poor Keira, I hope you fing out what is wrong!!!
Hugs to Keira as you figure out what's wrong! Group hug
Poor Keira, I hope she is feeling better soon!
Kiera, take care of yourself and get better soon. Your Auntie Paula is very worried about you! And hugs to Mommy. hearts
Hugs Keira we hope all is OK. Group hug
I don't know what it could be, but we are joining the group of well wishers.

Get better, Kiera!!! Very Happy
I'm hoping its something minor...get better soon Kiera! Sad
Ya know...as I'm sitting here at my home computer...it occures to me that Keira has recently taken to eating cat poo. Hmmm...I wonder if she is getting sick from that?

She ate dinner, and within 1/2 hour, threw it all up all over the kitchen floor. The biggest challenge is cleaning it up before Pirate eats it.

I pray she's ok. I'm not sure, at this point, whether to feed her or not. I figure its better to feed her, and have a chance of getting something nutrious in her, than not feed her at all.

I'm worried about my little "naughty" girl. She is my little sweetheart.
Here's hoping it's kitty poo as the cause. Some antibiotics, some yogurt would take care of it.

Why does dog puke smell so bad. As a nurse for many years, i can vouch for it being the second worst smell in the world. I am you all a huge, huge favor in not telling you what was #1.

Come on Keira, get better.

Burn victims or active GI bleeds come to mind....... Rolling Eyes
I hope Keira gets well soon!
Here's hoping it is something minor and Kiera gets well fast.
Get better Kiera, your mom is pretty worried about you.
Get well soon, baby! No more eating cat poop!
Cat poo. Eww! Shocked

I hope Kiera is okay! Give her hugs for us.
I think (hope) I have good news. We went to the vet. The first thing he was concerned about was not the cat poo, but the cat litter. It clumps, and apparently has caused bowel blockages in dogs. Cat poo is loaded with protein, which is why dogs love it.

They did xrays, and she does NOT have a blockage. From the xray, he could tell her stomach was irritated. I don't know how, but he said he could see it. Something about areas being brighter.

She had a slight fever, but he said it could be from the stress of being there. She actually was so frightened, she blew her anal glands. YUCK!

He thinks if we can just get the irration settled, she will be fine. She is on meds to stop the vomiting, and a special diet (Hills I/D) to soothe her tummy. She has to have 6 small meals a day for 6 days. He also gave her a shot of penicillian.

He said if she gets worse, or not better, to call and he will explore other avenues. But he seemed confident this will work. He said she may have eaten something that started this cycle, and we have to break it.

Good news! She did not throw up yesterday. So, perhaps she's getting better already. He said thing usually corrects itself in about 2 weeks without meds, but very quickly with meds.

Thanks for your concern!
Poor puppy, I hope she is better soon!!

BLEW HER ANAL GLANDS Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked EWWWWWWWWWW
give the sweetie a kiss from me....poor baby being so scared at the doctor.....

a hug to you too....exhale slowly deb
Deborah
I was going to guess that it was some type of bowel or stomach irritation; Barney just got over a bad case of diahrrea, the vet gave him an antibiotic and put him of AD also, but told me to give only water for 2 days before and feeding. It's tough to feed one dog and not the other; Barney kept looking at me with those big sad eyes like I was starving him to death. I felt guilty of course. I think he may have gotten into some squirrel scat that may have had a germ of some kind in it. I hope he gets over it quickly. Kisses from Barney and Maggie.
I am so glad to hear she did not throw up yesterday.
Poor Keira, what a mean Vet to scare her so badly.... and Ewww! Shocked
I hope she's feeling 100% really soon!
I've got my fingers crossed!!!

What does that mean???? Surprised

Glad Keira is going to be okay! Smile
The Vet explained it to me this way....if two dogs (or a frightened dog) encounter each other...and they are trying to establish dominance, the more submissive will release this horrific stuff from their anal glands to signal, they give up.

It is such a horrible smell....she did this once before (I can't remember the circumstance) when she was really frightened, and it was so gross.

(Keira is a very timid dog. She was a rescue, and is happy and secure at home, but not so much in the outside world.)

Ugh...hope you never experience it.
