My Step Dad passed away last week
My Step Dad passed away last week and we took a road trip to another state with Hannah and Copper. The people they usually stay with were out of town themselves and it was better Hannah and Copper went with us. They were a great comfort to their Grandma and us as well. Very fitting they would be there since they were dearly loved by my Step Dad. Even though my Step Dad entered my life when I was an adult he nonetheless made a big impact on my life. He had been ill with many health problems for some time but it was actually a shock when he passed peacefully in his sleep with a big smile on his face. We are all very sad. It's funny how you don't realize sometimes how much you care about someone. I am lucky that I have no regrets because we are very vocal with our feelings in our family so he knew we cared deeply for him. But I'm finding out I am much more upset than I thought I would be and how big a gap he has left in our lives. It's really shaken me up not to take anything or any one for granted. Looking forward to catching up with all of your news on the forum. |

My dad remarried when I was 13, and I understand how stepfamily can become members of your real family. I'm glad he passed peacefully. Hope you find lots of comfort from the forum and your dogs.  |

| I'm sorry to hear of his passing. What a special guy he must have been. To step into a step dad's shoes must not have been an easy thing. Although you were an adult when it happened, the fact he made such an impact on you speaks loud - he must have been a wonderful person. I'm sorry for your loss.

| Sorry to hear about the loss of your step dad. I've only had a step dad for 5 years now and I've gotten pretty attached to him as well. A person doesn't have to be a blood relative to be family. |
