Waves in the water bowl

So, I'm sitting here having lunch and have just filled Dodger's water bowl a little more than usual. He usually plays in it when it's empty, so I figured I'd be safe with an almost full water bowl.

Wrong.

He is now sticking his muzzle into the water bowl, pulling it out and watching the waves splash water over the sides of it, on to it's mat and then the carpet. (Ah, the joys of a carpeted kitchen... )

Oh well, it'll dry and it was really cute to watch, that is until he wanted to see what his paws in the water bowl would do...

I bet it was adorable! Messy, but adorable.
They make car mats that are designed for northern climates where people's boots drag in lots of snow and mud and such. As the snow melts it can be a fairly substantial amount of water and a normal mat would just allow the water to run onto the car's carpet.

These mats hold quite a bit of water in their grooves and they have raised edges. I would think if you put the water dish on a mat like that, any spillage wouldn't get to your kitchen floor.

Unfortunately, I don't think they make the mats to cover your lap, where your dog dutifully wipes his face following a long dunk, I mean drink.
I wonder what was going through his mind. :D
You know, I actually thought this might be a one time thing. It's now become his favorite new game. I swear, at one point tonight he was trying to blow bubbles in the water.
That is so funny and cute!!!! I would love to see a video of that!!!!!
Trainig lessons are out there for every dog-type-style-purpose-etc. Maybe someone could come up with drinking classes for sheepies. My Rheba also thinks it is fun to fill her mouth with water then drop it all over the kitchen floor!

Our German Shepherd used to do the same thing.
:D Baloo was doing this as well... sticking his whole nose down into the bowl, come up dripping, stick a paw in, then nose again, blow bubbles....
I was soo busy laughing that it took me a minute to realize he was after 2 little pieces of kibble floating in the bowl. FINALLY-- after the water was almost all gone (and all over the floor, dog, and our CAT who came to see what the fun was about) he ate the 2 pieces of dog food and looked up at me with the biggest eyes as if to say "What??"
Thats what Summer does if anything is in her bowl just dives in to get it out. I ended up giving her 2 small bowls as she didnt make so much mess. She stands in the garden and waits for her bowl to be filled up, trouble is she puts her head under the tap as I am filling it.
