All of my boys have laid down to eat now and then. I never saw a need or reason for it and they were healthy. We have a raised bowl now about an inch off the floor and it keeps Oreo's ears out of the bowl he has laid down and knocked the bowl to its side to eat. I hope this helps.
LOL, my Jack lays down also. Annabelle isn't tall enough to lay down so she stands or sits. We have raised bowls for them, what good that did for Jack.
Jack will sometimes stand, but not very often.
I love hearing about these sheepie quirks!
Stormi and co.
Bella lays down for most meals too. She keep a paw on each side of the dish and when the dogs are almost done eating they all switch bowls. I think they want to make sure no one had anything better. lol

My Pud also lays down to eat. I think with him though, it is because he can keep the other two away from the bowl. All three of my fur babies share the same bowl.
Tyler is so tall, as grammie puts it "that kids on stilts". So yes, he has always laid down to eat, that is until we we moved into our house now, he is fed on the step to the garage and he stands to eat as the food bowl is higher. Kiera on the other hand stands to eat, but then she is pretty short, not so far for her to reach. Besides, she has to be ready at the drop of a hat to see if Tyler left any in his bowl that she can scarf down really quick. You see, they have their priorities!
roofus used to constantly sit to drink or eat, he doesn't really do it so much anymore.

get a raised feeder if it bothers you. That'll improve digestion and lessen the stress on the neck and spine too!
Simone stands, Harry reclines. Different strokes.
