Rags is going to the ER today

She has been limping on her front paw for two days.
I have tried to look for a cause of the problem and it seems to be her one toes is very sore when touched. Hubby thinks he may have stepped on her foot when getting out of bed the other day.

Our Vet wanted $100 just to bring her in....because it was and "emergency" visit. They normally charge $65 for a visit...which is stilll high in my opinion. The ER Vet only charges $50 for a visit. Our old Vet office only charged $35 but they are closed on Saturday....

I'll update when I know more.
Wish us luck!

Poor Rags, I hope she is ok...let us know E.
Oh poor baby. I hope it is nothing serious. Please do update us when you are back from the vet.

On a different note. My vet at Palm Desert charges only $35 for a visit. He is pretty good and down to earth. I have been with him since I moved here. Let me know if you want me to pm you his info for future reference.

Good luck and all six of our fur kids are crossing their paws for Rags.

Martini
Even if broken, can't do much. I broke Shane's toe. It was a middle toe so the other's help "splint" it until it healed. I felt awful.......

Hope Rags' problem isn't serious and he heals quickly. Please no foxtails.....
Aweee... hope Rags turns out to be okay. Poor thing!
It is not broken. Poor Billy was feeling so guilty, thinking he had stepped on her.

She has a cut in her inner pad (The Vet said it was must likely from running and stopping short on concrete). She has a bandage on and it's supposed to remain on for 5 days and kept dry.

The Vet could not see the cut and recommended they do an X-ray. While they had her sedated for the X-ray they shaved her pad and found the cut. I am pissed they didn't shave it before they did the X-ray. But because they screwed up, they didn't charge us for the X-ray. 8)

They did tell Billy ahead of time that it would cost $800 if her toes was broken. 8O I said get the X-ray and if it's broken we will take her to my SIL's vet. There was no way I was paying $800 to get her a bandage and some anti-biotics, that is ridiculous!!

Martini, I would love the name of your Vet for the future.
awww poor Rags and poor you. I hope Rags feels better soon!!!!!

I cant believe what some vets charge. Our vet is real reasonable but once I had to take beau to a vet our vet uses if he is busy or its an emergency. They charged me over $250 for an ear infection. When I took Beau in for a check up with his ear I thought that it was part of the orginal fee. (thats how our real vet does it I just have to pay for any additional meds or etc) but it was a separate charge. Which at the time I didnt know about it, when I went to leave there was no one at the check out desk and the girl that walked us out didnt say anything or give us a bill. A month later I got a bill with a nasty note saying they provided the service and if I would need to use them again, I may not be able to if this wasnt paid. I called immediately and tried to explain that I thought that because I wasnt given anything on the way out and because my real vet includes followups with the original visit I thought I was covered. They still sounded like they thought I wanted a free visit  I dont think I would ever go back there because of that.
Glad to hear it is only cut.
I can't believe the price they would charge if it was broken. There is really nothing to do but splint it and rest. What a rip-off! 8O
So glad it was not a fracture :D

Wow the ER Vet and costs 8O

Heal up soon Rags and next time watch out for daddy getting out of bed half asleep. Move out of the way Rags!!.
Poor thing. You definitely need to find a new vet!
I just got home. Hubby was the one that brought Rags to the vet today. (The only reason he brought her is he thought he had hurt her. He was very happy to find out her injury had nothing to do with him. Normally I do the Vet visits) I was visiting my parents. Rags is limping around with her wounded foot, with is better than this morning, she was not putting any weight on it.
As soon as I walked in the door, she immediately raised her paw when she saw me... like Mommy, Look! Billy said she slept most of the afternoon from the sedation. I gave her big kisses.

After talking to Billy I found out that the Vet did not charge for the office visit charge either. The Vet was over an hour late just showing up to the clinic, as soon as he walked into the room he told Billy he was waiving the fee because Billy had waited so long. Then when he was telling Billy what should be done, sedate, shave and take a closer look, he got called away to tend to a dog having a seizure. The Vet tech was the one who went ahead with the X-ray (without Dr's orders at a cost of $150). Because the Vet tech was not supposed to run the X-ray, they took that off the bill.
All in all it still cost $175 for shaving down her foot, sedating her and the bandage.

I'm gonna take a picture of Rags and her foot, she is acting so pathetic.
I'm so glad she's ok. It freaks you out to see them in pain - at least me!!!
I am really glad Rags is ok! I am also glad your Vet reduced the rates although the bill is still quite alot for a wound.
Thank everyone, for worrying about my girl. :ghug:

Emily, it is awful to see them in pain. :(

Val, I do agree that the price was still high.
Billy said the ER clinic was bought out by a corporation and they had jacked up there prices. They used to charge $50 for a visit. Now it's between $90 - $125. 8O If I knew that ahead of time, I might have had Billy take her to our Vet for the $100 office visit. I'm sure there wouldn't have been so many added costs. He would have found the problem immediately.

We will be searching for a new Vet.

Here is a photo of the patient... Sorry for lack of quality, it was taken with my cell phone. The batteries in my digital needed to be recharged.

Awww, what a sweetie, love her cool boot (bandage) :D
Sheepie hugs rags, heal up soon.

She has that Ouchy Ma look in her eyes. :?

Glad billy was not the cause, he can stop feeling lousy now  He was a great dad taking Miss Rags :D
E Plz give Rags a big cuddle for me. I hope she is feeling better, and Billy is feeling less guilty. It is so cute that as soon as you got home she raised her foot to let you know that she was hurt and you needed to know her situation. Rags is such a sweety, but I guess no swimming for her for a while. I am glad Rags is doing so well, sorry the bill was so high. Jeez!
Poor puppy! I hope Rags is feeling better today. It is really cute that he knows who is his Mommy. :D That's the only "good" thing when my pups get hurt that they only want me!!!!! (I know it's not nice to say but I love it when they run to me crying to nurse them better. )

Rags, we are sending you slobbery helling kisses    Get well soon!!!
Hey get well soon Rags. Obe is is playing in the snow and sends sheepie hugs.
Rags is walking perfectly with her bandaged foot. She is putting full weight on her paw again.
Only two more days until we can take her bandage off.
She is starting to get annoyed with it, but has left it alone.

Hubby said the Vet said we could bring her back to have the bandage taken off for another fee of at least $100.
He told the Vet that he was perfectly capable of removing the bandage himself.
Goodness your vet is expensive! :o $100 to take off a bandage! What a rip-off! (lol.. $100 rip-off)

Glad Rags is feeling better and that it was only a minor injury! (Yay..no broken bones!) :D She does look cute in her little bootie bandage though.
Poor Rags - but the boot is cute!
I had to click on the picture and make it bigger - the thumbnail size looked like Lacey was drinking out of a toilet! 8O . I thought "wow, Elissa must have really wanted that picture of Rags!"
Thanks for worry about her everyone. :) Rags sends Sheepie Kisses.

Her bandage is cute...dirty now though. I was a bit annoyed that Billy let them put a green bandage on my girl. I would have definitely insisted on a different color. It's bad enough that most people think she's a boy, now a green bandage.

  No, that is in the kitchen. Lacey can not reach the toilet. Well she probably could, but do't tell her that. If you look in down the hall past the open pantry door , you can see Pepsi laying in the front hall. I somehow managed to get all three in one shot. I had to laugh at Lacey as her tail was wagging while she was drinking. That tail is always moving.
