Fireworks!!!

Well George has been really good with fireworks and they haven't bothered him at all, to the point where he has lay in the garden watching them in the distance. I have played a CD with firework sounds on to him from him being little, so he was used to the noise of them!

Then last Friday night when we were out on our walk some little B****** threw a firework at him which scared the living hell out of him!  I saw the kid light it and throw it but it took such a split second that I didn't have time to get George!

At the time he was off his lead playing with a ball on the field, and he just turned and ran in a blind panic, luckily my friend Clare was coming onto the field with her dog Charlie and he ran to her!

For a second I didn't know which way to go, get George back or go and murder the kid that threw the firework!! At the time I was standing between the two of them!

George was in a state but I put him on his lead and took him for a walk with Clare and Charlie so that he didn't think there was anything wrong. (fireworks don't bother Charlie)

It seemed to do the trick until last night when the kids were out again with fireworks thankfully this time in the distance though he is still scared but then a huge bang went off near us and he dragged me back to the car to go home!

As 5th Novemeber approaches I know it will only get worse, I really hoped I could have got through this year as it's first with no scares but that hasn't happened!!

I'm thinking of using a DAP difuser to settle him and just wanted to know if anyone has used them with any success.

For anyone who doesn't know a DAP difuser gives out the same pheramones as a mother would to calm a puppy and so is supposed to settle dogs of all ages down.

Vicky,
I have a lab who has seizures at times. The DAP seems to help a great deal. Her seizures seem to be brought on by thunder, loud noises and upset routine.

I got one of those last year Vicki as Maizie hates Fireworks too It did seem to calm her down Im using it again this year... As she won't go out at all if she hears them... Im not sure yet how hattie is. Hopefully OK... I really think they should Ban fireworks from the shops to STOP the kids from getting hold on them... And just keep them for Organized displayed.....
That really bites!! I would have lectured that kid, after I made sure my dog was OK.
We had a similar incident years ago. We have a 4th of July party each year. One of my nephews threw a wad of firecrackers at our rat terrier puppy. He was scarred for life. We never got him over it. Todd and both reamed our nephew out - I felt like shaking him until his teeth came loose! He was about 13 at the time, old enough to know better!

DAP was not available then, I have heard good things about them. I know some in our basset rescue have used them with good results.
Oh, that's horrible! I just don't understand how kids can do stuff like that. I hope George forgets about it soon and goes back to liking fireworks.
What a little BRAT!!

I've never used DAP, but it sounds like it might be helpful for George. Poor Darling.
