Pepsi barking at Ryan in the pool

I know I have mentioned this before. Pepsi HATES when Ryan is in the pool and usually barks at him until he gets out. He has no problem with Hayley being in the pool, just Ryan.... Pepsi get very nervous and tries to pull him out. But the barking is quite annoying...and this is what it sounds like at our pool all summer. I know that Pepsi senses Ryan is "different" and I guess that is why he reacts the way he does.
See his reaction to Ryan going underwater....

Good Boy, Pepsi!

Thank goodness for the debarking! I'm sure you've thought of it and or tried it a million times, but can you keep Pepsi inside when Ryan swims or is that impossible?
Ron,
He now only has 1/2 the bark he used too..... can you imagine how loud he was before? 8O

You should hear the barking when Rags and Lacey join in! Rags barks at Pepsi because she thinks he's trying to hurt Ryan and Lacey joins in just because it seems to be the popular thing to do. :twitch:

About mid-summer I had had it with the barking and the dogs were not allowed in the pool area while we were in the pool. Pepsi had other plans though. He faithfully dug in the sand next to one of the pool fences. It took him about a week to realize he could fit through the hole. We would see him trying to squeeze through, get nervous and back up over and over. Rags finally pushed him aside, after he had done all the work.... and went under the gate. Pepsi followed right behind her. We filled in the hole and put down a piece of board by the gate so they wouldn't be able to dig. So then they would just run back and forth along the pool fence and bark. Then of course there were the occassions when someone would leave to use the bathroom and when coming back they would accidentally let the dogs in. I eventually gave up.... but if it got really annoying, they would get booted out.
I guess Pepsi is protecting Ryan. I cannot imagine how loud his bark would be without the debarking. You'd be deaf!
I like how Ryan is pointing and trying to get him to leave. I would go under water too if my dog was barking in my face like that!
Paula, he was twice as loud as our German Shepherd, Harley was..... and Harley was loud! No wonder the neighbors complained.
Funny thing is the new neighbor didn't even realize we had dogs..... Not sure how that could be, I know he was home on the weekends during the summer. Maybe he just didn't realize the noise was from our backyard. Or he couldn't hear anything over the high pitched yapping of his little dogs? For the most part though my dogs don't bark much, unless there is a reason.

It's too bad the video ended at that point. ( I took it with my cell phone and I think 15 seconds is the max ) Rags ran up and pounced on Pepsi and started telling him off.

I think Pepsi's problem is he feels the need to herd Ryan. But when Ryan is in the pool, that is not possible. So it makes him very nervous.
If Ryan gets closer to the steps Pepsi will try to grab him by the arm and pull him out. If Ryan is anywhere further out Pepsi will go as close to him as possible (on the pool deck and bark or try to grab) If Ryan is in the middle of the pool, Pepsi will circle.
Notice how Pepsi abruptly stopped as soon as he hit the second step.... Wuss!!
i had a sheepie who ran around the pool and barked at people one time i had a party and she bit a guy on the head when he tryed to get out.. she loved her pool
Pepsi's bark was enough to bring Jack from the other end of the house to help save Ryan. Jack usually ignores computer and TV barks. Even "debarked" Pepsi's voice still has enough to carry to New Mexico.

I guess Jack could tell Pepsi had an urgent bark.

He reminds me of Lassie sometimes. Like the night a few years back when our back fence blew down and Harley and Peanut had left the yard. He came up to me and woke me up by whining, then he started barking it seemed like he trying to tell me something. I said "What is it Lassie?" jokingly, and he started spinning around and barking more. So I got up and said, "show me." He ran to the back door I looked out... couldn't see the fallen fence from where I was. So I went back into the bedroom and he continued to bark. I realized Harley and Peanut were not in the house. So I followed Pepsi back outside and he ran to the open area and went crazy barking. I walked over there and was thinking OMG, my dogs are gone. I turned to Pepsi and said Good Boy!!!
Then called for Harley and Peanut who were actually just in the lot behind the fence and came right back when called.

What a great dog Pepsi has turned out to be. Sheepie.Aussie hugs to him! One time Pearl got out of the gate and China has a tone she only uses for Pearl and she was hitting my hand and looking out the window and so there was Pearl on the front porch.
That is a Lassie moment!
