New member... Let me introduce myself

Hi forum friends -

Please let me introduce myself. I just joined this group today!

There have been three OES’s who have shared their homes with us, one at a time:

1. FIRST, THERE WAS CHARLIE. We adopted Charlie from the Humane Society. The paperwork on his cage stated: “Received as pet, too big, don’t want.” At 11 months old, he weighed 68 pounds. He had been kenneled outside (Minnesota!), and was not housebroken. Clipped to the skin by the Humane Society (evidence of grooming neglect), and with green snot dripping from his large, black, capacious, wet nose (kennel cough), we signed the papers, paid our $42.50 adoption fee (he had been marked down - discounted because he had already been returned to the Humane Society from one failed adoption attempt), we loaded him into our car, and never looked back. He was the best dog in the whole world.

2. NEXT, THERE WAS BENTLEY. One of 13 in his litter, we purchased Bentley for top dollar from a reputable breeder in Colorado (OESCA). We drove from MN to CO to get Bentley when he was 8 weeks old. He had it all - Champion parents and show quality from head to stumpy. But this guy had an attitude! Surely, he wouldn’t have to follow the rules that all those “common” dogs have to follow. Obedience training - What? Sit? Stay? Wait? Come? Are you kidding? You can’t make me do that! Did I tell you that my parents are champions? And so it went. He was the best dog in the whole world.

3. NOW WE HAVE HASTINGS. Hastings (by a different name on PetFinder) is a rescued OES (South Carolina shelter), lovingly cared for by his foster mom in North Carolina, until he found his furever home with us in Minnesota on December 8, 2005. Hastings has a somewhat questionable lineage and has his own set of issues. So stay tuned for postings from me about Hastings. Like Charlie and Bentley before him, Hastings is the best dog in the whole world.
