Chumley's Renewed Vigor

I thought it was time to post an update about Chumley. You may recall that she had a pretty hard summer -- was weak, falling down alot, didn't want to walk, and was generally miserable and incontinent due to arthritis, etc.

Well, apart from the incontinence, things have really changed! After about 5-6 weeks on Metcam and swimming once a week, Chum is energized like a puppy. She runs up and down the patio stairs. She runs across the yard, to the car, to greet people, etc. She looks super happy and does her little bouncy dance for treats. It is amazing.

At swimming, she does three sets with a break in between. Usually, she has to be pulled back in for the 2nd and 3rd sets. Today, both times she actually turned around and went back in to swim more on her own. I was shocked. She is up to 15 minutes total (3 sets of 5). It is crazy.

I don't know when Chum will ultimately run out of steam but she has really turned it around and continues to live strong and happy (although incontinent) for the time being. :D

A nice little bikini bottom or thong would look great on her as she gets ready to do her swim laps! She is a furry little miracle.
That is absolutely fantastic!!

And, yup, for incontinence I too recommend some cute panties. I got some for Sybil for when she's in season - black - that have a huge winking eye on one "buttock". A big hit in agility class.

Got attitude?

Kristine
Gotta luv the chum  Pink Polka dot knickers I can picture on her over her Depends

She really is such an amazing girl "Water Baby". :D

I was just thinking of Chummie today. Yay Chummie!

If she keeps this up and you'll have to start getting her into carting and weight pulling to keep up with her energy. ;)
Yes, that would be it! That all-OES sled team needs more members!

It's been a while since you posted an update so I was very concerned. This is such great news! Go Chum Go!
Way to go Chummie!!! I am so happy for you and Chummie!
Val, so glad to hear the great news! :D

Regarding the incontinence, what does the vet say the reason is for it. Is it just age related?
way to go girls!!

Val, if you want me to make Chum some "girlie" panties like i make for my girls, let me know............ we can pick out some cute material.....

Mine have them for when in season, and i have them for all holiday times of the year, lol.

Ali
Yes! Chum would love some girly pants! I have no idea what that actually means but would love to try something cute. The depends work but they don't stay on her when full and they are embarrassingly ugly. I have some cute cow fabric but it is not very thick . . . How sweet that would be!
Way to go Chum, don't worry about the potty thing, most of us need depends at some point
That is great news
Yay Chum! :)
I forgot my camera at Chumley's swimming appointment today but once again, she cut her two breaks short, turned herself around, and went back in for more swimming. It was a joy to see.

Although she is acting really lively, there are clear signs of neurological problems -- the dual incontinence for one. And I sometimes find her standing with her paw knuckled under. She is also pretty shaky and her teeth chatter. I am not sure if that is related. . .

Still, despite everything, Chum is really having a great time greeting people, going on long walks at a pretty fast clip, and generally being enthused, cheerful, and bouncy. :D

Bizzare--- Max was shaking today. He has an appointment tomorrow for a check up. I noticed it after he was playing this morning. He was on his back- and tried to get up. His back left foot was kind of stuck under him- and and he yelped. Which he NEVER does. Now he is shakey . He does seem much better this afternoon. No teeth chatteing though...
vAL,
we need to meet and let me measure Chum........... then we'll go pick out some cute material for her. Let me know, I'll venture down to Boulder..... now you KNOW that is a big one for me!!!! I can make them up in about 20 minutes.

Ali
Chummie is such an inspiration!

Please take pictures when she gets her new girlie pants!
Ali-- that is awesomely nice! I will call so we can figure out a time. I just cannot get over how spry Chum is. She is running, jumping, bouncy and energetic. It is crazy around here!

The vet says Max is fine... of course no signs of shaking when we had our visit with him. He is getting too heavy though. He has gained back all of his post op weight loss- and an additional 2 pounds. Max and I will be dieting together...
Way to go CHUM and VAL........................... :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Hurray Chumley!! :clappurple: I can't wait to see her new girlie panties. :D
I hope Max is feeling better. :D

The girlie pants sound like fun for Chum. I can't wait to see the finished product. :D

Oh that is good! I wish he would stop imitating all of Chum's ailments though. Sometimes rear leg shaking is a sign of tiredness which could be the case if he is heavier and not strong enough to support it. With Chum, she is having alot of trembling in her neck and jaw but I am not too concerned since otherwise she is doing so well. I will raise it at her next appt with her swim coach (I mean her physical therapist).
