crashing into other dogs

Otis is a very in your face sheepie. He likes to be right in your face kissing, head on shoulder...you name it. When he starts doing his crazy man run, he runs in circles as fast as he can, he jumps at whatever is in his way whether it is us or another dog. He will run full speed into his "friends" and knock them over...HARD! Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, when he does this crazy run with his dad he jumps at him as he goes by trying to bite (nip) him, but he doesn't do that with me.

We call this running in circles - "psycha puppy"- sort of like "psycho puppy" - only my son when he was a toddler said "psycha" ANYWAY- This is pretty normal behavior for sheepies, it's best to be ignored. I find talking Chelsea "down off the ledge" to be the best approach t getting her to calm down and stop tearing up the grass and running into everyone. I either ignore it, or if there are people or children around who could get hurt I try to distract her. I read in a book somehwere that when the OES behaves like this they are not getting enough excercise and it's some sort of energy short cicuit. I could believe that , except, Chelsea seems to do it randomly, sometimes she has had a ton of excercise and her brain still goes out to lunch while she tears around the yard in circles making that 'huh, huh, huh' puffing noise, not quite a barking but defintiely runnig into people and other animals. It's a weird OES thing I guess -Anyone else deal with this?

Up.
Yep, my girls have the "spin cookie" moments for about 10-15 minutes every morning. It's funny, but can be hard to deal with when everyone is getting ready for school and work! LOL
The Huh, Huh, Huh is doggy laugh. She's just having a great time!

Yes, even my girl has these "moments" even tho she gets more than enough exercise....we call her "thunder thighs" developed from all her running. These "moments" are no longer in circles, but rather from one end of the house to the other, banking off the couch and bed, floor rugs flying in the air. It's fun to watch......from a safe location. The other dogs stand back.....once in awhile one will jump out and try to grab the shoulder....no doubt confused about what's going on....."should we play or should I attack??"
What a chuckle I got out of this thread. Our sheepie Jules loves to play rough in the morning. She loves to play the chase game with the kids in the morning. She runs around, goes over the back of the couch, just loves it. Although it is very hard to get everyone ready for school. She is quite a distraction. And yes, she does the wild circle run outside if you get her going enough. Everyone stands back and laughs.
 LMAO!!!yes even my "perfect mickey"does this, and OMG!!it is so funny  he looks like a total duffess!!LOL!!he runs and runs and runs and run!we start singing the gingerbread song when he is doing this!!
usually after this burst of energy he poops!!
okay I have decided that Otis a perfectly "normal" sheepie with a need to run in cirles like a mad man!
I am now a member of this great forum. I am laughing my head off about our sheepies running and spinning. Dudley did that running thing just like a cat he would realize oh I have to be in the other room and he ran down the hall through rooms to keep his circle motion. It was really funny, it started one night when I was going to watch Gone With The Wind well the opening scene has cows that looked as though they were coming out of the TV. Dudley was planted right in front of the screen and when he heard the mooing he took off, from that day certain sounds were a signal to run. Oreo is a spinner mostly when he gets excited the other night he did it on command, we just laughed and enjoyed more fun with our dream come true. I wonder is this an OES trait?
There is a website for a campground that we go to that has mooing sounds on it. Carl seems to freak out when they come on. He runs throughout the house and comes back. If it's still running, he takes off again. Maybe it is a sheepdog thing.
My sheepies do the same things.I believe this is their way of playing and being their silly self. They need a herd of sheep,LOL.In the 18 years I have been owned by sheepdogs, all have done these crazy antics. The funniest I can remember, was my Bentley,he would go bonkers if he smelled Bolonga, now if you gave him a piece of it he would throw it in the air and roll on it,run around it,but never eat it.They are like no other, canine.
Cannie, that was so freakin funny!!!!!
