I cant download any pictures anymore!!!!!

I've got a digital camera and I always have to connect the camera with a lead to the computer and it normally brings straight up a screen where I only click "download" and then it goes automaticly.

Since ca. 2 months this doesnt work anymore! It does show on the camera that it is connected but it doesnt come up on the computer. I try to pluck it in and out several times and it's still not working! The sign on the computer to click on it just doesnt appear!

What is wrong? Is there something wrong with the lead? Do I need a new digital camera? The camera itself is working and I can make pictures!

Thanks for any help!!!

the port could be broken. try pressing control when inserting the lead.
don't you have a CF card or some other card the camera saves the pictures to??

mellow (yes, I still read the forum!)
I am having the same problem and my camera is also acting up, getting new camera. Acually alway had problems with camera.
Monika -- that is more likely to be a computer problem than a cable or camera problem. Unfortunately, this sort of glitch happens pretty often and there are any number of things you can try that may fix it.

Instead of using the cable, you can get an inexpensive memory card reader to attach to your computer. Many computers and printers actually come with them built in. You just pop the card out of your camera and into the card reader. Among the many benefits of this approach is that the transfer does not require the camera to be on and consuming battery power.

But before doing that, you might want to have someone with computer experience double check your computer to see if the problem can be easily fixed. Sometimes the software needs to be reinstalled or even the settings for automatically opening a certain program when the cable is attached needs to be fixed.

Have you looked at "My Computer" to see if you see an icon for your camera when it is attached? If so, you might just be able to double click there and copy and paste your files to a folder on your harddrive.

Also, if you know the specific program you are using to transfer files, you can open that when you have attached the camera and see if it recognizes that your camera is attached.

When all else fails, try rebooting the computer. That often solves all sorts of weird communications problems.

Good luck!
If your running xp you could try this
go to prog.
accessories
sytem tools
restore (right at the bottom)

and set your system back to a date that you were able to download from your camera

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo

Don't do that unless you haven't done anything else to your computer nad you know what you're doing!
You could lose programs and/or data if it is stored in certain directories on the hard drive! 8O

It is something that an experienced PC fixer could look at, but if you're unsure of how to fix the camera problem, I don't think this adivce is for you! :D :D

Val has a great suggestion: Look at the main file folder (sometimes called "Windows Explorer") and look down the list and see if your camera appears, usually near the bottom.
Thank you for all your great advise!!!!

I'm just on normal windows and I only got a laptop with no special features, therefor I cant put the disc from the camera in, cause I dont have that on my computer. Max could do it on his computer, he got a better one!

I tried to click on computer and nothing comes up at all, that's where I started wondering whats going on! And also .... there is normally a noise, like a bell, when the connection was succesful and the screen appeared, but now it's no bell or screen, just NOTHING at all!

I'm worried about rebooting the computer cause I would loose all my pictures etc. I've taken, I need to save them first if this is what I have to do!

My contract for the computer just run out so I would have to pay for any professional to look at!!! :?
You just need a 15 year old to help show you how. Do you have any neighbors?

If the pictures are still on your camera and you haven't been able to successfully communicate between your camera and the computer, then there is no need to worry because they will still be on the camera. Disconnect the cable between the camera and the computer and nothing will happen to your pictures.

If you've transferred some photos to your computer already, you can check using the program you use to look at your pictures or just by going through my computer to find the folders where you keep them. What program do you use to view your photos?

Often times, rebooting the computer is all that is needed when the computer does not recognize a USB device.

Even if it starts to work again, I would recommend getting an external card reader instead of using the cable. The risk with the cable is that your camera battery could die mid-transfer, which could corrupt one or more of your picture files plus cause confusion about what has been transferred successfully. Card readers cost under $20 at an office supply store and are really convenient and easy to use.
