depressed after a shave

Poor Harley got shaved today. We're in the middle of buying our first house and moving, and I just haven't kept up with the brushing for the past 3 or 4 weeks...and this is what comes of it. Rather than put him through the brushing out, we just decided to shave him, and the poor thing has been depressed all day. He's just been laying around on his bed. I put his t-shirt on him, and he's started to perk up a little.

Is this normal?? He wouldn't hardly eat his dinner, and he's usually a real pig. I even performed surgery on his favorite stuffed blowfish and sewed him back up for Harley to play with. He chewed it for a little while, but now he's just back to laying around moping.

I have pictures in my album here, but I can't figure out how to upload them to this post.

Oh yeah!

Sometimes they seem to be "embarrassed" by their loss of hair. But they get over it quickly and then they aer cuddle bunnies, because they are cold for a few days until they get used to it.

Detiled instructions on how to get pictures into your post from the gallery:

Pearl gets like that when we shave her down for summer. For a couple days, she goes in a corner and sulks.. We call her our little Saluki>>>>

Also, since there is no padding on her tusch...she sits funny until she gets use to it...
when our poodle gets hers cut everyone says ahhh look how CUTE you are and she puts her paws over her face. Sami (oes) gets a shave and she runs the house like crazy.
Embarrassment always quickly fades away here (within a day or so) and is followed by lots of running and celebrating nakedness.
Boni doesn't care at all. Since I shave him, I give him breaks and he just runs and plays half naked, while I laugh so hard that I'm falling over.

One question though, does Harley knows the groomer? He might have not liked being there without you and I suppose he can feel embarrassed about being naked.
Obe was like that as well. He hated being cut down, we went from nine inches for the most part to about two inches in length. So we are not going to shave/cut him down again. I will have him hand cut by his groomer down to about five inches but not any shorter. He has turned into a big inside dog unless I go out with him and we play or go for a walk. It grows back fast trust me and I am glad. Dont like him short.
   Only OES could be embarrased at being shaved!!!

You gotta love them!!
After reading the posts I feel like Rheba is the total opposite. She jumps for joy and would do back flips (if she could) after she gets a haircut. It's like she's free! Although if it is cold outside when she gets her hair cut, she then acts a little bummed around the house. She gets over and things and I'm sue he will also.

If you guys are also in the process of moving, he may also be thrown off of his schedule because of the chaos within the house.
Clyde and I were both depressed after his shave. Does this look like a happy face?

My guys love to be shaved! The run and roll, chew on each other, wigglebutt all over. Could be we make a big fuss of rubbing them all over and telling them how beautiful they are....we don't laugh at them. What my guys hate is when we trim their rear ends if their overall hair is longer. MO sits, "Hey, it's drafty back there" and Jack grumbles the whole time.
Our beardie growing up would get embarassed after a shave--she wouldn't even leave the house!

Barney, on the other hand, I don't think he even notices that anything's different
I'm depressed, Kels got the big chop yesterday, she is happy mom is not. :? Still getting use to it 8O

PICTURES????
Not yet :P Still a work in progress, bit wonky on one side and mom is still getting use to it. 8O  Not a complete shave off, a puppy clip we are trying to achieve, bit hard when she can't stand up on the grooming table anymore for shaping, but we are snipping here and there while she is standing for me on the ground.

Kels is happy though, I think she really enjoys all the weight of the coat gone, she has a spring in her step now. Been holding off all winter so now was the time to do it. Sucks getting old but something I really needed to do for her and her comfort
I can't wait to see the new Kelsey :excited:
Chauncey is NECK'ED too! My husband took him to the groomers ( I had a family emergency ) after I spent 3 hrs brushing. The groomer called and said they might need to trim him down to 2-3" because of mats near his cape??? Wasn't there in the morning when I brushed him:roll: Darn mat faries. Well I got home just as Bob's leaving to pick him up and went along. He's BALD and it's going into the 30's tonight. We are now looking for a new groomer  Oh and a sweater too.
Ours went to the groomers yesterday.

Winston never speaks to me for a day or so after a trip to the groomers. I don't think it has to do with the haircut so much as "how dare you send me away to those horrible people AGAIN???". The very first thing he does when I get him in the car is lean up at me begging for me to take off the scarf those big meanies tried to strangle him with..

Lacy got groomed for the first time since we've had her and she looks beautiful. The groomer said she was so sweet and let them do whatever they needed (unlike Winston, who begrudgingly endures the whole process). She got little black and orange bows on her ears. They look a bit cheesy but she doesn't mind them the way Winston minds the scarves. She's also agreeable with me today whereas Winston is laying on the floor purposefully looking away if I talk to him.
