Strange, any one else?

For the second day in a row, Pooh Bear has made a (liquid) mistake while confined in his pen. The strange thing is, it's IN his Food or Water bowl. Not all of it is in, but you get the jist. My lunchtime walker called to tell me, and I noticed it yesterday when I got home also.

Needless to say we are starting the full crate training now that he's 3 months. He'll be in the crate when I leave, come out for lunchtime/playtime then back in the crate until I get home for Dinner, playtime and brushing etc.....

Anyone else ever have this happen??????

Setbacks are common... just keep being consistent and things should work out fine.
Don't leave the food bowl in with him. Feed him when you put him in and then remove the food. Leave in the water. He should do fine with 3 feedings a day and it is better to monitor his food intake.
Set backs do occur. Especially at 3 months ... he's just learning and will be going through some major hormonal changes in about 6-9 months, so be ready for some more set backs then.
If it becomes a persistent habit, you may want to try and walk him more.
Not to encourage his mistakes in there, but you may want to move the water to a different corner and place an absorbent pad (covereed by his regular mat, so he doesn't decide to eat it) where the accident occurs. We used newspapers under neath Abbi's blanket. Someone said newspapers could be harmful? And the pads are more absorbent. Just make sure it doesn't become a habit or routine.
Could be he just doesn't want to lay in it and is aiming for the door or something.
I would second that-

Whenever Chelsea has an accident in her crate - also twice now she's vomitted- she always does it near the door or in a corner, could be your little guy figures if it's in or near the dish it's not where he wants to lay anyway. There is a certain comfort level they reach at three months where they sort of "foget" the original house rules and suddenly things they were completely trained on go haywire. At three months Chelsea decided it was okay to wee in the kitchen when we were home and could let her out, I think in her little lemon sized brain she figured "close enough" [to the back door]. We scolded and made her feel a little guilty and she figured out it wasn't gonna fly and went back to signaling. She did other things at that age too, all of a sudden the living room couch was "okay" to jump up on, etc.

Be consistent, it will pass, ALSO, sounds like you are home or have someone there enough to maybe limit the water. Somehow Chelsea figured that out around three months, she stopped drinking when we were gone- it was available, but untouched when we got home, just a thought, maybe allow a big drink in the morning about 45 mins before you leave and then pick up the water until you go, make sure to let him out right before you go, some how Chelsea figured out this was her "last chance" before we left and started going when we let her out, wether she really thought she had to or not. it took about two weeks to establish the routine. Then we gave her water when we were gone, but only half as much, so she couldn't overdo it. It was never all gone when we got home, so she certainly wasn't parched.

Just some thoughts- good luck - have I told you enough how cute he is? I love black labs but can't have them becuse of allergies, I just can't imagine a better combo for a dog!

up.
