Is it possible for OES' to get along with a cat & small

I have a 6lb Maltese and venture on several Maltese boards. When this question is given (opposite scenario), there are many people for it and many people against it. Most against have never tried it. Those for say they key is always supervising them while playing. All of this is to protect the smaller dog of course, and to not leave them alone when you step out for a few hours. Both of these things, I could handle.

My Question: Could the OES get along? Every breed is different, which is why I'm asking.

2nd Question: I know through research that many herding dogs like to chase anything that is non-canine and moves VERY fast. There are moments in the day my friendly sweet cat is on speed. She also fetches, and does all the tricks my dog does, so she's weird. Have you guys done it?

I'm a firm person (experienced breeder), and train dogs. I just have no experience with an OES. i'd appreciate your input.

I JUST noticed the "cat" thread below. Forgive me. ;)

What about the small dog then. *tongue*
I wish I could edit. the title is supposed to say "small dog"
Hi and welcome! I have two kittens and an oes puppy. She is 5 months now. I have to say that they get along well together. I don't know about another small dog. I know that Mopsey, has a friend who is a small little thing :D , and she is very gentle with her, no jumping or anything. As far as the cats go, i am sure you know about keeping them seperate for a while, until they get closer acquainted. Are you planning on getting a puppy or rescue an adult dog?
I am open to both, but prefer a puppy. I am quite anal, and like to have things my way "such as training" and I'm also a over-emotional sap, so would prefer to grow together with my pup ...at the age she develops her personality.

The scenario: My FI is in Iraq, returning (God-willing) in December. We will be married, and then find out where he will be stationed next. Until we find out (Jun 05), we will not be silly and get a dog. It will be too hard and expensive to take 3 animals to Korea ....if that is our fate. So, we have some time to decide and find out more about a breed I have never been around, and my FI always talks about (he grew up near some).

We're both active adults, with house&yard, so we think this would be a great dog for us ESP. if he leaves again for Iraq. I need some company (that's bigger than my present furbabies). :)

However, I will not do anything that will upset my kiddos (small dog and cat) present living condition. They're so happy, but can tell they will take a bruising when I move out once I'm married. My present roommate has 2 cats, and when they're not all together, they stand by the door waiting for their friends to come back. hehe
Well, I just asked Baxter (OES, 96 pounds) and Cassiopia (OES, 55 pounds) whether they would get along with a small dog. However, they were too busy playing with Freddie, the neighbor's dog (Lhasa Apso, 12 pounds) to respond. They don't seem to have a problem with it and are playing quite enthusiastically together.
jennifer, that was cute.
