Peeing in crate

Truman is 20 months old and has had perfect behavior in his crate until the last few weeks. In that time he has peed in his crate during the night at least 5-6 times. He's only there about 8 hours as my husband gets up quite early and lets him out. He doesn't seem to have any health problems or behavior problems that I can determine. I wash the rug he sleeps on and clean the crate and he'll go a week or more and then it happens again. I have started limiting his water when I put him in for the night but it doesn't seem to make any difference if he does or does not have water with him in his crate. Has anyone else had this happen with their dogs? Do you think I should discard his rug? I put it through a heavy wash cycle so I don't think it has any residual odor but I know their sense of smell is better than ours. I'm just worried he may mess up and pee somewhere else in the house. We just got all new carpet in July! Any ideas???

I would first get a check up at the vet.... then if there are no medical issues, throw out the rug, and maybe restrict water intake in the evenings.
Thanks! We collected a urine sample tonight and put in the 'frig. I hope it will be ok for the vet tomorrow morning. If not, we'll stalk him again until we get another sample! I think you're right and I'll toss the rug and start over there too. We have several stores here like Big Lots and Dollar Tree that sell inexpensive rag rugs that work well in crates (evidently work well as "diapers" too!)

I think I better quit now. We were out to dinner with family and friends and had such a good time it has impared my typing skills! Then took it on out to the patio and had a fire in the chiminea. I love the smell of pinon wood! Truman loves being outside at night, esp. with the full moon! Wolf ancestry!??

Thanks again for the info.
Males like to mark, so the rug is probably an issue, Limiting water is usually the most successful. Sometimes they grow faster than their bladders in that case they grow out of it. It may be a phase. Vigilance will save the carpet--that and some hydrogen peroxide.
Hi, has there been any change in Truman? I hope things are better. Stormi and co.
Well...... yes and no. He doesn't do it for a long time then he has an incident! The vet said he doesn't have a urinary tract infection so..... I think that maybe he just has a small bladder. Last night I got up at 12:30 to go to the bathroom and let him out and boy, did he pee! Someone said that maybe he's growing too fast for his bladder. I just hope it doesn't happen anywhere else as we just recarpeted the whole house in July! I know he doesn't mean to do it, he's really a good boy!
