as I the Vet and I looked at the xray, there was his bell he chewed off of his collar from a while ago. The vet said it was in his large intestine which is better then the small one. Does anyone know who long it takes to work its way out? |

seeing as it is already in the large intestines... probably a day or two. Doesnt sound like anything to be worried about. In this case even if it would take a bit longer they wouldnt do surgery or anything because it is almost out. If it hasnt come out in several days you can always ask the vet to do an enema or just feed your pup a little bit more fiber in his diet till its out. But as I said earlier it should only take a few days without help. |
You could add a 1/2 tsp. of Metamucil to his diet.....if you have any, don't bother to buy some. Usually dog food makes enough bulk in the intestines to easily push something along. You can try a little canned greenbeans, cooked sweet potato, cooked carrot, cooked oatmeal if you want an extra push. |
Keep your ear to the ground...you'll know. |
It should pass OK, my friends sheepie ate her earring, took two days to make it's way through. Only downside is checking each doo doo to make sure it has. |
I have to assume that since the vet saw the x-ray and was not alarmed to it being in the intestines, he doesn't see it as a problem passing. Didn't the vet give you any idea of how long he expects that to take? he is the vet and should know this???
Good luck. |
From what was written it sounds to me like it has been in there for a while...
It may not be coming out on its own. I hope it is a safe metal with a safe coating. Brings a whole new meaning to "dinner bell". Since the doctor thought it was in the colon, it might be a fairly straight-forward colonoscopy to retrieve it. I am wondering if it is really in the small intestine. What does the vet say, just ignore it or ummm... wait it out? I've got my fingers crossed. |
