Pro Plan Large Breed Formula, anyone using it?

Our two year old OES has been on Natural Balance for the past year, but he is behind in weight. He is probably ten to fifteen pounds too light. He is VERY ACTIVE and probably burns a lot of calories and fat.

Our Vet and Breeder suggested that we transition our dog over to Pro Plan Large Breed Formula. We previously tried Pro Plan Lamb and Rice and our dog had loose stools the entire time (two months) that he was on Lamb and Rice (NOT a large breed formula).

I would be curious to know what people think of Pro Plan's Large Breed Formula for a two year old, underweight OES?

Thank you.

Are you sure your dog is really underweight? Best to keep dogs a bit on the lean side so don't get carried away trying to fatten him up.

Natural Balance is a pretty decent food. If he's doing well on it, I'd stick with it. I'm assuming your vet has checked for parasites, etc., that could be keeping the weight off him? We don't use Pro-Plan but know there are a lot of good breeders out there that do use it. May be worth a try.
Pro Plan works for our boy. I can't say may more than that because I don't eat it.
I have used Pro Plan for many years. It works great. Large breed lamb and rice. Our breeder also has used it for 25 years on all her dogs . By the way her girl won BEST dog in the country in the national this past week. The food is good and has first the large breed for puppy the the lg breed lamb and rice, then senior for latter. I highly recomend it.
Thank you.

Our boy is 60 pounds. The Vet would like to see him at 70 pounds, and he’d like to see some more flesh over his rib cage.

Yes, he was tested for parasites, giardia, etc. - - all negative. He has been wormed twice over the past month.

I am confused. Some report that they use a Pro Plan lamb and rice product for Large Breeds. The only Pro Plan product that I can find for large breeds has chicken as its #1 ingredient. I see is a Pro Plan lamb and rice product, but it is not designated as a Large Breed formula. Am I missing something?

I am curious if anyone uses this food, in particular:

With the number of Pro Plan foods out there, I am concerned that learning that someone uses Pro Plan is not enough. I think the devil is in the details, and use of a "brand" over a particular food makes it hard to draw any conclusions.

Thank you.

Yes. See my response above.

This is the only ProPlan adult large breed food PetSmart or PetCo carries.
Do a search of this section and I am sure you can find something on gaining weight.

Instead of changing foods maybe you can try mixing some wet food in with the dry. Or we used some mixed in yogurt, for a time.
I've had my guys on proplan for several years, but had to cut back to their Weight Management Large Breed Adult formula due to overweight. Barney was 110, Maggie 91; vet suggested they loose 10 lbs. After about 4 months, Barney is now 95, Maggie 85. I'll probably go back to the regular proplan adult formula and cut back on their amount.
I was using pro plan puppy lg breed and Nigel was gaining fine, but I am switching over to Canidae because he has some allergies, and wheat is usually a culprit. Didn't see any problems with the weight however, and my breeder swears by it.
We used pro plan for Gabe since that's what Amber uses. We have switched him to Nutro Ultra only because that's what the older boys eat and it was easier to switch Gabe over than it was Luke and Rosco.
I have also been told the best food is called Wellness from the vet. Very pricey.
