howling sheepies

Mty two sheeps are now 2 and 1 1/2 years old. My eldest, Lily, started the behavior of howling in the morning although she sounds more like a cub wolf trying to howl than a grown up. Bear, my youngest, doesnt know any better than to imitate her because he is a bit on the slow side of things.. so when she starts he copies her except he has a full moon, loud as can be, wolf howl...... do any ones sheepies do this behavior as well and when should I be interpreting it as. We live in the suburbs with no wildlife or forests or trees around for them to have learned this behavior either.....

My dog howls. It happens for her whenever she is super excited, and I'm late feeding her. Maybe your dog is hungry for breakfast?
Archie howls with sirens, exactly as though he was trying to harmonize with them. He's the only one of my sheepies who have ever howled, although there are plenty of moans, groans, squeaks, etc. Archie's mother howled, too.
Harry howls at sirens, he has taught the rest to join in. Plus he has a very irritating bark for the neighbor dogs first thing in the a.m. The other dogs talked back. Jack came along and all hell broke lose. Now I can't let my boys out together in the morning, least they run to the fence, bark and howl and "sing" to the neighbor dogs, who return the favor. In all this rukus Glacier has taken up barking in her baritone and MO "whines". It is awful. It lasts a minute or two, but they are super long minutes.
glad to know that mine arent the only ones. I never figured a sheepie for howling much... they just didnt seem the type to me.
Our first would/could howl on command!

We found out that he could howl when we called someone to sing the "Happy Birthday Song" to them, and he started to howl!

You could sing, you could say the words, nothing. But sing the words and he was a howlin'! It became quite a tradition -- everyone we knew wanted to get their birthday call from Jake.

He could also whimper, speak and then howl on command, but only in that order! You could make him whimper for any amount of time, but once you got to speak, he wouldn't go back to whimper, and same with howl. Any further commands just got you another howl.
Suzi truly howls when she is left alone. She did it the first day I brought her home and her breeder says that no one else there howls.

Carl only howls when the singing sheepdog is playing. That was a surprise the first time it happened because I was unaware that sheepdogs were even able to produce that noise!
Yeah, Mandy... G/A always waid it was unusual.

Then again she always gave me the same look when I told her we were going to have him stuffed and mounted when his time came.
My old dog, Porridge, used howl everytime 'The Archers' sigature tune came on the radio. It was almost like he was trying to sing along.
non of my dogs howl... I don't know whether to be disappointed or thankful...

I think Porridge is a very cool name, lol...
What's the singing sheepdog? Willoughby hasn't howled yet, but Toby and Bentley howled if they heard sirens either on TV or outside.
Here are some pictures of Carl with the singing sheepdog. They used to just be for Christmas but it looks like they are making them for all holidays now.

Haha!! I love it!
:D Oh, it's stuffed singing sheepdog! Wow! I'm going to get one for Willoughby and see what he does. I imaging that the cats will be shocked.
Lynda you can borrow mine! My boys howl when they heard it.

Maxx - Hilarious photo!

Kelsey just wants to rip it's head off  Brie sits there and turns her head side to side with a dumb look on her face when it sings.

I love it, but it lives upstairs at chrissy time away from the terminator.

He sings/howls two songs, the "Oh Christmas tree" one sends Kels physco, cause she can't get too it. 8)

Ohhh! I want one! Where can I get it? My dog howls whenever I walk out front without him...then he will pee on the rug. I thought the piddling was obnoxious, but this mad peeing is too much. He is just a 37lb 4 1/2 month old. I sure hope it will pass. Nevr had one with so much seperation anxiety towards me.
I want one too! Chauncey has only howled twice and I can't think of a reason connecting the two. It definitely wasn't sirens as he ignores police and ambulance, but loves to run and see the firetrucks. In our area they all have different tones. The local ladder truck occassionally uses our neighborhood as a turn-around and once he actually stopped peeing and wanted to jump onboard, they were going to let him. Guess he thinks he's a dalmation
Shelby howls with sirens, Corky waits till she gets started & then joins in.
Fergus tries to howl along but his sounds like a cough,
I have that singing sheepdog toy & Fergus wants to kill it (I had to hide it  )
My Owen would howl the entire time I was out. I know this b/c my neighbor told me how she loved it & when he stopped she would howl to get him started again (Great neighbor).
I left a voice activated tape recorder on so I could hear for myself. I am so glad I did. Now that Owen is gone, I still have his howl to make me smile :D
Wendy I got mine in a shop here but they are on E-bay occassionally. I imagine there will be a few on there coming up with christmas not far off.

Sue nice to hear fergus wants to kill yours too.
Here's one http://www.brandsonsale.com/tg-001913.html
Seems to be the lowest price on the web. Enjoy!

I have another singing sheepie that sings other tunes (won it at a fundraiser)
Don't remember what song the other one sings. Will check it out after Fergus goes to bed, :D
