Puppy aggression

I just got a Chihuahua puppy who is 8 weeks old. He likes to play bite and play tug of war with items but other times he gets very aggressive. He will snarl and snap at anything in sight which is usually ME! I try to calm him down by talking softly to him or petting him but this doesn't work at all. I am worried that my cute little Chihuahua which most people assume are harmless will become a vicious snappy little dog. I don't know what to do to stop him. If you have any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it!

I heard that playing tug a war may increase aggression.
I was wondering the same thing. My puppy is ten weeks old and she is doing the same thing. Its not the playing that bothers me its, when she get nuts like your dog.
i think tug of war is ok to a point, but NOT until the puppy has been taught mouth manners. If you do both at the same time it will only confuse the puppy. They go through a stage of biting too hard at a young age and if allowed, it can become a problem. The wilder (rougher) acting you are in play the more prone the puppy is to assume that rough play is okay.

No offense, not talking about "your dog", but most of the little chihuahua's I've ever been around have been as you described, "vicious little snappy dogs." Mom bought one when we were kids, brought the little guy home, he tore up the house jumping from tables to chairs knocking things over, snapped at everyone and finally we locked him in the bathroom until the guy she bought him from came to pick him up. This was all in the same day. But, he was sooooooooo cute until she put him on the floor. lol

I'm NOT saying yours is like that, just saying that those little guys are tiny and cute, but wow, can they put on a show. You'd never think they had it in em'. Good luck.
