corel painter X

I love to draw and paint, BUT since I got the dogs a put things away, I did not want to get things eaten (way to much money the stuff plus vet bills 8O ) or just knock over  plus we are renovating slowwwwwlllllyyyy. But I am getting the corel painter x program and was wondering if anyone else is using it. It sounds real cool and hoping for pointers.

Nope, I'm an Adobe girl. :)
I have Painter 8, 9 & 10 and PhotoshopCS, never use PhotoShop and for straight painting I don't think you can beat Painter :D
I've used Painter before and it is the best program out there to submerge yourself from your fine art into the digital realm. Certainly, nothing beats the smell of turpentine or the texture of a nice rag paper, but you can achieve so much in Painter.

I have an illustrator friend who does all of this commercial art with the program including some cartoony animations. You would never be able to tell he did it on the computer. It's an extra plus for him in one regard, because he doesn't lose a generation of quality of having to scan in a painting which can sometimes cause unexpected muddiness.

I think you will definitely enjoy the program but it's a bit complex. Make sure you do the tutorials to get the hang of it because it offers so much.
One last thing. Definitely invest in a Wacom Tablet so you will be free of a mouse and have the natural flow of the pen. I use my Wacom pen every day and can't live without it. I think it helps me in preventing carpal tunnel syndrome too as I switch back in forth btw the mouse and the pen.

I think anyone buying/using one for the first time should know that even though it seems simple, the Wacom tablet takes some serious getting used to at first. It definitely isn't just like picking up a pen and going. It's pressure sensitive and you really need to find the right pen/tracking speed that works for you-- it isn't as easy as you'd think it would be. It's definitely manageable and learnable but the first time I tried it, I found I got really frustrated because it didn't work like I expected!
ej if I can be of any help just ask , I also use a Wacom Intous 3 pen and tablet and they are great. Just to give you an idea of what one can do
(not the best but  )

yes I was looking at the price of the wascum and the price 8O . And of course I want a bigger one not the biggest. It looks quite neat, hinting for x''mas.
and a lap top because I love to draw on the couch and watch tv
I have the 4 x 6 , it works fine for me on both my 23" desktop monitor and my 19" laptop and the footprint is small :D
Jean are those your pics?
Yes that was a link to my pbase site and they are some of my paintings :D
Jean you painted all those in Corel? :o Gosh! They're wonderful. :o :P

I'm so jealous of all of you artists, regardless of medium. I have zero talent in that regard and I so wish I did.
very NICE. I hope I can get used to the computer for this. I am use to paper, paint, pencils, chaulk etc It would be nice not to have to drag it all out and put all away. And not to have to run everywhere trying to buy it all. Next question printer are only 8x10 where tdo you take them if you want it bigger?
Wow Jean! :D :o Wonderful paintings! I had no idea you were an artist! :excited:

Come on, all you artsy folks...come out of the closet! :?

EJ...I would like to offer one small argument in favor of messy, non-computer art mediums  ...I have a studio for most of what I do, but I also like to work on the couch while watching TV, etc. My solution was a wooden (nice enough furniture to live in the living room) cart with drawers for the supplies, and on wheels so it can be tucked into a corner when not in use. 8)
