anti ear infection recipe

Ok guys

I know somewhere someone had posted an ear cleanser recipe that helped prevent or clean up yeast based ear infections. I think maybe it had gentian violet in it??? I can't find the recipe, but could someone who has it repost it. I think it was either Stacey or Carl who'd posted it originally...

Poor Watson has major problems with recurring ear infections, and my sister was hoping to try this out on him, to see if it will help.

There you go. I just searched for the word gentian and it was the only thing that came up!

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=9198

We're having ear problems ourselves these days. Each of the boys has one bad ear. We're using Ottomax but I think I may try this myself just so I can clean the ear at the same time.
That was the one Jill. Thanks! I thought it was stacey's post! Watson thanks you too. Now Christina just has to find boric acid and gentian violet...

What has she been using to treat them so far? Is it possible that he may also need a fungal medication (in pill form) to help knock it out, too? The only reason I thought to suggest it is because my vet said that if the boys' infections don't clear up this week, she's going to try them on the anti-fungal next.
I think she's been using some sort of prescrptive ear rinse. I'm 100% sure. Maybe an oral antibiotic the first time he got one... she pretty much does her own thing with him. But she was mentioning last night she thought it was a yeast based infection, and that made me remember Stace's post. so I promised to look it up for her.

The Ottomax is kind of a gel that goes in the canal and it's only about $15 for the tube (from the vet). Any other time either of the boys had an infection, it wiped it right out. The main reason I think it hasn't this time was because my tube had, uh, expired and I didn't notice. We're on a new tube now. Your sis may want to check that out too if she hasn't tried it yet.
We've been using K9 Liquid Health Ear Solution since April and haven't had any infections or yeast issues in the ears... yet anyway.

The ingredients are
Isopropyl Alcohol
Boric Acid
Gentian Violet
Collodial Silver

One of the negatives is that it makes white fur purple so you need to be careful when using it :? But I'll take purple over an ear infection or yeast any day. It seems the witch hazel recipe would sting less if there are any open wounds.

Just another option if you should need it. Good luck!
I have the blue power ear treatment -see the link:
http://www.itsfortheanimals.com/BLUE.HTM
I use it for routine use. Honey came in with bilateral yeast infections in her ears. After her prescription drops, I started her on this too. They were perfectly clear when she had her surgery this week.
I try and do all the dogs about every week or everyother week.
Panda's ears are more sensitive. She's had a problem with bumpy ear flaps/pinnae possibly due to allergies?? I still haven't figured that one out. If I use the K9 solution every week, it makes her ears even more bumpy... it's a dark picture to show the bumps back in June, her ears weren't dirty  http://oesusa.com/Yeast/PandasEar619072.jpg . So I only clean them out every 2-3 weeks and use a gentler solution by Butler if she starts to scratch her ears.

I'm thinking it might be due to the alcohol... maybe just too irritating for her. The rest of the pack does fine with it every couple of weeks. Maybe the witch hazel version would work better for her? The regular vet has seen her for this... thinking about taking her to the holistic vet for another opinion.
Bella got a terrible ear infection. The vet prescribed Gentizol. A week later, infection was still raging. She then recultured and discovered bacteria as well as yeast, so prescribed antibiotics and regular cleaning with DermaPet. Another week later it was better but still not good. She prescribed another round of the Gentizol. At this point, frustrated, I, instead of the Gentizol, used this ear cleaning recipe. AMAZING! A week later her ear was beautiful!

I admitted to the vet I had not used her prescription and told her what I did. She knew about it. Said a cocker rescue lady uses it all the time and made a believer out of the vet. Well, this experience sure made a believer out of me! Now we use it once a month, along with normal ear cleaning regularly and the girls ears are great.
i am a holistic groomer in alberta, (www.itzaclip.com)just thought i'd let you know Urban Carnivore(a raw food company) make an ear cleaner called "gentian ear treatment" which contains which hazel, boric acid and gentian violet solution. I use this every day with every dog in my grooming salon, and i have a golden who is prone to ear issues from her food allergies. You can get a raging ear infection to go away, by using as this other lady stated, with consistency. It does irritate if the dogs has a flaming red ears , black waxy discharge and the flaps are swollen, but it works! www.Urbancarnivore.com or any store that carries raw food will have it. and p.s., ear infections are evidence of the dog having too much "heat " and "damp" in the body, usually from hot meats or allergies, so watch out for goat and lamb, the hottest meats, and any protein the dog has been eating for too long. my golden was allergic to chicken and i created an issue to beef by feeding it too long, so now she's on venison and we are going to trade in with rabbit and turkey, proteins she hasnt had much of. Snowy has one now too. Been keeping it clean but U went to goggle it and found ear meds on line.
It is called OTIC Enzymatic Sollution
Mde by ZYMOX
has 1% hydrocortisone
it says don not clean ears when useing.
once aday for 7 days or for 14 if the infection is very bad.
Hi there, after many many years with bulldogs , and ears and toes that that have had inter digital cysts, and yeast in the ears, I learned that the food is the culprit !!! most dogs do not do well with most brands of pet food, because of the garbage that is in it, any protein is from the rendering plants.stomach contents and so on. and not whole grain either. ***( Fromm family foods.com)))makes both 4 star , and Gold, with muscle meat,(roasts,) and do not even use organ meat, no bi products or fillers. you can have it delivered for $4.95, most stores do not sell it ,cause they can't make enough profit on it . for a 50 to 70 lb dog --1/2 cup 2 x a day , is plenty, and under 30 to 40 lbs , 1/4 cup --2 x a day is fine too.it works out to about $10.00 a month to feed a large dog.which is cheaper in the long run. and this food has the pre and pro biotics in it ,(live culture too)to help the immune system ,and digestion. you can have (((petflow.com)) deliver it . free shipping if $49.00 is ordered.
now as to the ears, YEAST infection, needs an antibiotic to clear it up , then you need to mix 50/50 % apple cider vinegar ,and water !!!! twice a week squirt this mixture into the dogs ears, and work it around. they will never have a yeast infection again. (I use a baby ear syringe) the acid content is to high for yeast to grow!!!! but that is safe. -----BUT the problem is the dog is reacting to a food that it is not tolerating. I know that the Fromm is safe for Bulldogs , so I know it is great for any other breed, good luck.

use an acidic ear cleaner too. once a week. after the antibiotics clear the infection, you can keep the yeast from coming back for ever,.

I use that genetian Ear formula the guest had posted about from Urban Wolf. It also causes some purple staining - temporarily. But it has all the ingredients of the recipe. I had troulbe finding boric acid around here and found this formula sold already mixed. :)
