i give up!

Hi everyone! I tried everything! The kid won't eat!!! So my husband went out and bought a bag of Purina 1, the food she was on when she was a baby at the breeder...guess what! She devoured it! Without any additives, cottage cheese, wet food, nothing. Just pure dry kibble! So what do I do now!? Good quality food like the 30lb bag of wellness i now have sitting in the closet, is no good if the dog won't eat it! I was so upset, telling Steve what evryone has said of this brand, including my trainer. To make me feel better he actually called them up, and taped the conversation for me! LOL They said that Purina One is one of their highest quality foods comparable to other smaller better brands. There are no artificial colors or flavors, real meat (byproducts were described in a different way by them, ofcourse!), etc. So what do I do? Steve said all his sheepdogs grew up on Purina and they were all healthy... Is it possible that the pups are kinda programed to eat what they were fed by the breeders at a very young age? *sigh* Advice please!

I wouldn't worry about it Marley.... whatever works works. That's how I ended up keeping my girls on Iams... I had bought so many expensive super premium foods, added all kids of stuff to get Dancer to eat... and as soon as Iams went in her bowl, she gobbled it up. Sky, fat little sausage that she is, will eat whatever, so I don't have to worry about it. I have them both on Iams adult dog food mixed with Iams puppy food, and the next time I have to refill the bin it will be Iams Mini chunks for adult dogs only, no more puppy food, because Sky is growing so fast.
When Paige came here she was "eating" Iams. Yeah right. Normally I believe what they had at home is what they will tend to eat when going to their new home......but there are exceptions. If you sheepie doesn't get upset tummy from the quick change, rejoice.

As for the left overs......you can mix it with the Purina until gone or contact a rescue group or shelter.....maybe they'll take it. Since it is high in nitrogen, you could bury in the flower garden......bury deep otherwise sheepie and all stray cats will want a snack.
you can always donate the leftovers to a shelter!
I think that is what I am going to do, Heather! Good idea. I hope they accept open bags...we have four! We have settled with Purina's higher quality food :? , and she eats it without a fuss. Maybe later on, I will attempt the food switch again, but now i am too nervous when she doesn't eat...especially that she is growing like a weed, and I want to make sure that she is getting enouph food. *sigh*
ya gotta feed what the dog will eat, but..

if you had the choice between a twinkie or a salad, which would you pick? :) can't blame the dog at all. not all foods work with all dogs. you might try something else... pet stores usually have tons of samples to try.
Sheepies are funny about their food.Mine will only gobble up Nutro,Max. Shaggy doesn't like cold things,he always sniffs everything first and will turn his nose up and walk away, the girls are easier to satisfy. Love Lil Walty's avatar.
Too funny, I love these stories. I have never had a fussy dog, Henry eats anything and everything: his food, my food (lasagne--yummy!), sticks, rocks, bricks, the walnuts the squirrels are trying to hide, the plants in the garden, etc.
he he he, well Mopsey will also eat anything, BUT her own food. We have found that she will eat Purina, so that is what we are feeding her. She looks good, and is healthy so Purina it is...for now. She is changing her coat now, i find little furballs everywhere. And even after I brush her the fur looks like its needs brushing again, 2 minutes later. COuld be bath time, LOL
