baking & spinning

Watson barks at cars, trucks & buses going by. As he barks, he spins. Our grass is thinning quickly. Does anyone know why he bars at cars & why he spins? Watson is 18 mo. old.

It's part of the "herding instinct" and very common. Dangerous but common. I would try and spend some time out with him when this is going on and try and distract him - play, work on commands/obedience, etc. and have him sit - rewarding him for ignoring the cars, etc.

You want to be sure you try and get him out of this habit - because God forbid he ever got loose - he would probably chase them and get hit.

You can also work on this behavior while walking - as a car goes by - tell him to Sit and reward him. Distracting him and making sure he's more interested in you than the cars.

Good Luck!
