Did you know that the kids in New York public schools have the day off today, and sometimes tomorrow too?? Is this common in high Jewish populated areas? Never heard of it before. Can you tell that there are very few Jewish people in my part of the world?? (I am talking to my daughter who lives there. Her kids she nannies are out of school.)
I still have relatives in New York...yes they have a high Jewish population, and the holiday has been a school holiday for many years.
The town I grew up in (Highland Park, IL) was predominatly Jewish. But, when I went to school, they did not close for the Jewish Holidays. Apparently all the classes had about 3 kids in them, but they needed so many school days to qualify for state money!
Happy New Year Very Happy
hoping this year will be better Wink
Happy Sweet New Year!

I think the kids are still off of school for this holiday and Yom Kippur in my area mainly so they can go to synogogue. Take it from me, it's not fun. I remember us kids sneaking out and hanging in the coat closet Very Happy That's what I still want to do...therefore, I no longer go to services.
