How I fixed my hearing problems-tinnitus and hearing loss.

Time.

It's been since June 10th, 2006 that I got my serious bout of tinnitus

The hearing loss went away after about 12 - 18 hours, but the ringing stayed on for quite a while.

It took just about 1 full year for me not to have a constant medium tinnitus in one or both ears. I could have lived with the level that I had -- I DID live with it for a year or so, but thankfully it is mostly gone now.

I still have some slight tinnitus that is very low level, and I seem particularly vulnerable to getting it more loudly when coming out of a relatively noisy environment and going into a quiet space.

My hearing is still quite excellent if not as perfect as before.

Glad to hear things are better Ron!! I would hate to have to SHOUT when speaking to you
I'm very glad to know that it's gotten better. :D
That is good. :D

I have had intermittant tinnitis since I was a kid. I don't think anything loud did it, but it has been going on since I was so young that I'm sure I wouldn't remember anyway!

Mine just turns on and off randomly - like a light switch. Thankfully the volume is low enough that I can ignore it. :D
Glad to hear you're better, Man!
Ron: I am sorry that you have had to go through this. I knew you had been dealing with some type of illness, but you never said, so I didn't want to be nosey. It is good news that you have improved this much even though it has been a year. It must have been very frightening when it first happened. I hope your ears clear up soon.
Glad your ear situation has improved. :)
Good to hear
Did it go away by it's self, or did you do something? I have had it since a bad infection in my left ear six years ago. Sometimes I pray for silence, I can't hear in that ear except for the ringing. I am glad you have some quiet. :)
Just time.

I also have been taking a B-50 and D (800 IUs on doctor's advice) vitamins and 2mg twice a day of Omega-3 fish oil and 100mg twice a day of co-enzyme Q10. I don't know if any of these have had any effect.

To get some relief I mask/masked the tinnitus with sound. A white noise machine or a fan in the summer.

Not that I have any idea if it might be a contributing factor, considering where you live I'd think you should be checked for a D vitamin deficiency. I was incredibly low. It took several months of 50,000 IUs of vitamin D supplements weekly to get me back to normal, and so far the 800 IUs a day have kept me there.
Ron, I"m so glad for you! The constant, irrating sound can drive a person batty!

I remember as a kid, I had it once (for about a week, probably some sort of ear infection) and it kept me up all night.

I'm really glad you're better.

Oh and as for the slight hearing loss...you know, you just not gettin' any younger!

(My 2 favorite words are "HUH?" and "WHAT?")
BTW, I still get the tinnitus when I'm very tired and I yawn...

I have a feeling it is still there a little bit all the time, just my brain has learned to mask it out.
