New Puppy hopefully soon+new mommy=Advice

My Fiance and I are looking into getting a new puppy. He has owned three oes while growing up and the most recent one has passed away, he (Duke) was 12yrs old. We live in an apt in Jersey City, but we have a very large park less then a block away. We have also looked into rescue dogs but because we have a cat and one day want children we were discouraged from doing that. My fiance works from home so he would be able to give the puppy as much attention as possible. I guess I am just a little concerned about what a good breeder would think. We have done our research and I absouletly loved Duke...shaggy fur and all, an oes is the dog for us, even though getting a puppy will be like a 6month old! What can we do to make our situation better? What do you all think?
I am ready for all advice! :D
p.s. I am a newbie! I have loved to read all of your advice to other members. It really helped in our choice. :D

I'm not sure how far it is but if you aren't doing anything this Saturday, Suzi and I will be at the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club in Macungie, PA. I believe it's the Allentown exit of 78. I just know we passed it on the way home from Jersey this weekend. http://www.raudogshows.com/jp/September/LEHIgh.pdf
You could always stop by and talk with some of the OES people.

Oh, hey Chris, we're going to be in town this weekend!!
I work through my home, I make sure I can get upstairs every 2 hours and if I am slow I do get breaks it works out very well. My kids also are home at 12 and again 3:30 so I try to make my breaks different then theirs, so people are actully coming and going, not that they are playing with all the time just having their family home is what they like. I have a glass door going down my stairs mine oes usually sit there when they can here me and give big wiggles when my clients say hi to them, they do not bark or whine to be down stairs they learn very fast what is what.
