Advice needed re Sheepie herding small dog

Summer is 12 weeks old today and there is one thing I would like to stop her doing but dont know how. She wants to play with my 3 year old yorkie, and keeps nudging her and trying to grab her.like she did with her brothers and sisters. It means I cant let them out the garden together as Summer thinks its playtime and poor yorkie is trying to do her toilet duties.

We have tried leave in a stern voice but this doesn't seem to be enough. Any tips please?

I also have a 12 week old and 2 other dogs, (an OES 9 yrs, and a Beardie, 4 years) and although they are bigger than your (poor) little yorkie, I have the same problem.

For the first 4 weeks, I took the puppy out first, then the other 2 by themselves. After the older dogs pottied, I would take the pup back out for playtime.

A couple of weeks ago, I began to take them out all together and I haven't had a problem. They go their separate ways to "go" and then meet in the middle to play.

Good Luck...it seems we are travleing the same path...
Can you keep Summer on a leash until your yorkie has had the opportunity to take care of "business"? I have a maltese and a sheepie and find that I do somtimes need to keep one on the leash and the other off depending on the situation.
I'm suprised the Yorkie hasn't told off the sheepdog, "Let me alone until I'm finished!!" I guess privacy in the bathroom is necessary here, separate toilet times.
I'm happy to see that someone else is in the same boat as myself. I have a 3 year old Yorkie and the Sheepdog is now 5 months old. Really, I now wonder why in the world I thought the size difference wouldn't be much of an issue, it's a huge issue for us.
The sheepdog is stubborn and bordering on aggressive, so outdoors isn't the only problem we're having. The sheepdog runs and bowls the Yorkie over, and takes all the toys. It's a real zoo. :(
I have plenty of pictures that illustrated the same problem. Our new sheepdog at the time would NOT let our maltese pee. Herd, Herd, Herd... follow, follow, follow...

Since I was always home, I always broke it up IMMEDIATELY and the problem actually went away. Now when it happens, which is rare b/c they're both interested in different things, my maltese says GET THE HELL AWAY <SNAP>

Hopefully the same thing happens.

You could also make sure your yorkie is fed treats/food FIRST to help establish who is alpha. If it becomes routine, the time your sheepdog tries to go first, maybe your yorkie will speak up!!
I wonder if this problem will improve with age? We had him neutered already, but it apparently hasn't changed his disposition.
I'm trying to understand dog thinking...If the little dog has a toy, the big dog has to take it, and the same is true vice versa. Also, the sheepdog does a strange thing; he knows he shouldn't bite, so he nibbles like he's eating corn on the cob. He does this to us, to the yorkie and to cats. What is that?
The sheepdog growls if he doesn't want to do something. Examples, get up from lying down (he'll flop on the ground outside and won't walk). Tonight he snapped at my hand while trying to brush him.
Is this the age or bad breeding? Fixable?
Our poodle seems to be the alpha, and gets left alone MOST of the time. Blue 11weeks like to bark at her when he wants to play but Dakota really not in the mood they (oes) get to carried away. Blue then goes after Sami and aay they go.
HELP. My oes puppy loves to play but he plays too hard for the other family dogs. the sheltie has established the alpha spot but the shih tzu is outsized. the shih tzu does attempt to let the oes know he has had enough and play is too hard but the oes puppy continues. our trainer told me to have them work it out and in time the oes will know the shih tzu is smaller. does this sound right?
Oh Murphys mum I darent do this my yorkie is only small and the oes is too rough. With our last oes I had a very old yorkie about 13 at the time. She told the oes straight away who was boss, and the oes understood this. we did keep them apart until the oes had calmed down. But my yorkie does want to play with the puppy but she just cant unless supervised..
