SheepieFest! 4, 2007--It's official--October 20

I just reserved the forest preserve grove for SheepieFest! 4 2007. It will be Saturday October 20, so that out-of-towners can make it a sheepie weekend by attending our rockin' event, then going to Chicagoland's activity on Sunday. I've reserved Poplar Creek Forest Preserve Grove #2. It's right off I90 at Route 59.

According to the rules and regs, I have to be there no later than 9am. So I guess it can start any time after that!

Amanda and Melissa, do we need an Elgin meeting??????
Respond to this topic here on forum.oes.org
We are up for a meeting...when's good for you?
Evenings, including weekends, are best for me. I'm out of town Sept. 20-25.
OK, well I've never been to Chicago, so can anyone direct me to a dog-friendly hotel that would be close to the festivities?
I will do some research on this because I expect MANY out-of-towners (Nita, Jil, I'm lookin' at you!!!).
oh oh ill go to a meeting
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:clappurple: :hearts:
I am happy there will be a sheepiefest 4!
I would like to be part of the planning committee. Count me in. I can make it in the evenings except this weekend. Let me know.

Mary & Winston
Hi Mary! I'm glad you will be attending again this year, and I hope you bring Jim and Keith. And Winston! I need to figure out some dates for meetings--may not be until the beginning of October since I'm out of town Sept. 20-25.
Yea! Let me know what you decide for meeting place and time. I'll try to be there! Early Oct would be good for me.

I'll also check into hotels up north.
Here's the old link we used. Hopefully it still works!

Yep! It does!

http://www.1clickpethotels.com/illinois.htm
I looked at several of the hotels from that link, but what I really want is something CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!! I don't care if it's ragedy, I just want to be able to afford it so I can be there and get the chance to meet everyone, and it will be like a little vacation for the kids. (Skin-kids ARE welcome, aren't they? I suppose I should have asked that first).

What part of Chicago are the events being held in?

I did find a few really cheap hotels (the Super 8 O'Hare Airport South or the Elk grove Chalet)... are either of these close?
Of course human kids are welcome! SheepieFest!4 will be at the Shoe Factory Forest Preserve, which is in Barrington/Hoffman Estates, about 40 miles northwest of the Chicago proper.

The Red Roof Inn in Hoffman Estates is pet-friendly and kids under 18 stay FREE. Their rates seem to be about $60 a night and for this area, that's cheap. Their address is 2500 Hassell Rd., Hoffman Estates, 60195 The Days Inn in Elgin is also pet-friendly. Their address is 1585 Dundee Ave, Elgin 60120. Their rates seem to be about $70 a night. Definitely check the web site for official rates.
Auntie Paula...we should try to work in a Hackney visit!

PS...I'm very excited. Thanks again!
Totally agree about the Hackney's visit but that will have to be in October. Will you still eat the onion loaf now that you are svelte??????
Well, maybe not a 1/2, but certainly part. And, I will need my scotch! And will have to do about 3 hours on the dreaded treadmill to make up for it!!!! (For those who haven't had those onion bricks, trust me, 3 hours on a tread is a small price to pay for that little bit o' heaven!!)
Thanks Paula for the excellent hotel suggestions! I'll check into them ASAP
Hmmm, north west of Chicago. I'll have to check if I have to work that weekend. I would love to come.
This is so exciting! :D We are coming on Saturday and I hope I can convince hubby to take us back on Sunday! Are other breeds allowed on this one too?

I also wanted to say, that I have "The Dog Lover's Companion to Chicago" book which includes dog friendly hotels too. Is this place is in Cook county (North/South)? This book is pretty good about dog parks, beaches, places to eat, places to stay, etc in Chicago.

Let me know if you I can help you in any ways. If we can make it up there (we are in downtown Chicago - "very" far) is there anything we should bring?

Oh, for some reason I got logged off while I was writing this. :( Maybe I'm just too slow.
Kata, all breeds are welcome. I don't even a dog, let alone a sheepie!

As we get closer to the day of the event, we'll get a sign-up list of what people are bringing.
But Paula is auntie to all the sheepies in the world! Especially Pirate!
Will this be an offleash or onleash event? I need to know whether I can bring the boss!
I would love to go too. I work every other weekend so hopefully it will be my weekend off. How exciting?
How many people/dogs usually come to the Sheepiefest?
SheepieFest! 1 was held over 2 days, and I believe that year we have about 40 people, and probably 20-30 dogs.

SheepieFest 2! and SheepieFest!3 were one day events and (correct me if I'm wrong) we had between 25- 30 people and probably 20 dogs.

People just sort of came and when throughout the day.
Heather, technically the forest preserve requires dogs to be on-leash but if they happen to "escape" oh well, we didn't notice. So I guess it will up to the owner. If Walty can't come, please bring one of your rescues!
Paco and I are so excited for Sheepiefest! 4!!! Thanks to everyone involved for organizing the event.
Hey, what town do you think may be in the middle of Poplar Creek and Riverwoods? Schaumburg?
Do we have a definative place yet?

Yesterday (in the mail) I received my invite to the Chicagoland OES party. I think just Pirate and I will go to that one, and Dad and Keira will have a "Daddy and me" day at home.

But all 4 of us will be at SheepieFest!. Just say where and when!

Stacy...Schaumburg would be a good place in between...there are alot of motels/hotels and plenty of restaurants and stores. Even up toward you in Buffalo Grove wouldn't be too bad. Any hotel close to the expressway would be good for getting to Sheepiefest because it is right of of 90...if I am reading the map correctly :D For Sheepiefest even further west on 90 might mean cheaper hotel rooms.

If there are a few people coming in from out of town on Friday afternoon/night we might be able to arrange a BBQ at our townhouse. We don't have a fenced in yard, but on leash dogs are fine. We can grill outside and party in the garage 8) pending decent weather, of course.
I'm back from my niece's wedding so now I can devote my thoughts to planning. I don't think we need a face to face meeting. How about doing planning via e-mail?????? Those who want to provide input please PM me your e-mail and I'll set up a group.
Paula, hope you had a great time!!! We missed you!
Hi, I have 3 sheepies and I would love to come to sheepfest 4 but have never been before. Is everybody welcome? Can someone tell me about the event. It sounds fun getting together with other OES and their people. I want to go!!!
Hi guest. Anybody is welcome to SheepieFest! Even if you don't have a sheepie (I don't have one yet, but I still go). It's basically an afternoon picnic and sheepie lovers get together to meet each other and their dogs. We're still working out the details but Amanda P's post 2 above gives the basic information. I'll post specific details as we iron them out.

Please take a few seconds and register as a forum member. It's free and we'd love to have you as a permanent member!
Hi Guest! I was just going to say what Auntie Paula said!

All are welcome, even Keira, my Border Collie!

Its just a nice get together. Nice dogs, Nice people, Nice food, and hopefully nice weather!

Where do you live? Do you have a sheepdog? If you come, you'll get to meet a bunch of them. Mine, Captain Whitehead Duval (AKA Pirate) will greet you with a kiss!
Hi again, I have 3 beautiful sheepdogs, Frankie Blue, Daphne, and Lazy Daisy Blue. I think sheepfest 4 sounds like tons of fun. I like dogs, food, and people. I am in Peoria, IL about a couple of hours drive from Chicago. Do I need to bring a covered dish? Is it potluck or BYOFood and stuff? I am going to plan on coming! Thanks everyone.
will there be a silent auction this year? if so do we need more prizes?
Whats the ext event after Sheepiefest. I really want to get Chopin out and meet some o you all but I can't make it this month. Also, is there anyone else close to va. that might like to carpool out to an event like this?
Yes, we will be having a silent auction again. It was a huge success last year.

We do need auction items, so we are asking anyone who attends (and can donate) to bring a new item with a minimum value of $20. We will have a check in table to log in the items.

Once again we will be sending all the proceeds to NEOESR. They do really fine work, and help fund rescues all over the country.

This is really our only event of the year. But the day after ours, Chicagoland Sheepdog club will also be hosting an event that everyone is invited to.

Every once in while something else pops up, these are the only preplanned sheep events I know of. I'm sorry you can't make it, but we'll post when something else comes up.
What sort of items are usually sold in the silent auction? Doggie supplies or people stuff? I look forward to meeting everyone there!!! See you Saturday!!!
We've seen it all! But mostly, its people stuff. Art/crafts things, TVs, gift cards, jewelry, gift cards (I'm sure I'm forgetting things)

We're exciting about you joining us!!!
