Question about "over" peeing???

Sorry ----I didn't know how to word the subject.

I need forum help...to understand a behavior...

After Pearl wets, Cosmo goes to the exact spot and wets. He has always done this. When Heart came, he did not do this...until yesterday.

Why???

Cosmo is my kennelosis dog. BYB, very skittish, nervous. He is on anti anxiety meds, which I am tempted to take from time to time since I have to deal with all his "issues".

I guess I always thought that dominate dogs do this. I should mention that he was fixed at 6 months--He is about 4 years old now.

Do all boy dogs do this?

As I previously posted, has Cos finally accepted Heart as part of the pack?

I really appreciate any light you guys could shed on this for me.

He's remarking it as "his." When he pees over the top, his scent covers up the first one and when sniffed by another dog, it's recognized as his mark. So, by peeing over the girls, he "owns" the whole yard.
I would have said the same thing Val. In fact, Nigel sometimes pees over the spot where my older poodle girl pees. He won't be in charge however...she has that nailed. On a good news front, he hasn't peed in the house for 5 days, uses both the doggie doors by himself and goes and does his business. He has that figured out, and still sleeping through the nights. I am going to take him to the groomers for the first time on Wed. unless I chicken out. He has had 3 sets of shots, but will have one more just to make it past 16 weeks. He is almost 14 weeks now. The last set will be at 16 weeks. I just hate to leave my baby for the first time. LOL
Rags always, always, always pees over Lacey's pee spots and Pepsi's.
She is trying to prove that it's her territory, which it is.
Sooooooooooo

Is is more of a male thing???

OR

Is is more of a dominant or alpha thing??

OR

Is it neither or both???

Sorry....I just need to figure him (cosmo) out. He is a delimma...

Thanks for the input.

(Wendy---Heart is still crying at night. I take her out a about midnight, put her in her crate, put my earplugs in..and feel guilty until I pass out from no sleep....  So glad Nigel is doing good.)
Neither really, just one dog wether it is a bitch or a dog marking there scent to cover over the others.

I had a female that would squat last on where the other girls had peed. Even if she peed first, she would go back after the others and pee again.
Her spot how dare the others make a claim to it. :P

He is a dog and just marking where the two girls have been. Like walking a dog in the street, they sniff around everywhere and if you let them will pee on every post or tree that you pass. Sort of saying Hey I am here and I live around this area.

I would not worry about it Cosmo is normal there and nothing to worry about in this sort of behaviour. Just the way they are and you can get this happening in both sexes. Usually the leader of the pack will be more inclined to do this.
I understand....  The light went on....

Thanks,
Copper does that after Hannah has went. I don't think Copper is a dominate dog, because Hannah is truly "the boss" of him. haha. Hannah has never done that.
Both of my boys do this to Rebecca's pee, although very infrequently now that Frank is neutered. So it may let up once he is neutered if you plan on doing it.
