Will the Real Culprit Please Stand up?

A little set up first: the boys sleep with us upstairs and Lucy sleeps downstairs. Lucy's aging and once in a great, great while, she'll have an accident in the house but it's usually only if we come home from work a little late-- not overnight. Well, the last few mornings, we've woken up to pee downstairs. We kind of started to accept it as old age incontinence and talked about changing our routine to accommodate her failing bladder but I was going to make an appointment with the vet this week to make sure it wasn't anything else.

Well, we were blaming the wrong dog!

Last night, James was up later than me and the dogs and I had went to bed. he said at about midnight, Clyde came trotting down the stairs and then did a stop short maneuver about halfway across the living room and just let loose right in front of him! Though he used to be a peer when he was young, Clyde NEVER has accidents and can hold it forever so I knew something was up. We just got back from the vet and he has a UTI, so the poor kid couldn't help it and he couldn't make it to the door.

The funniest part is James took it very personally at first. He was like "Do you think Clyde's upset about something? Do you think he's mad at us?" I assured him Clyde was not spite peeing because he's never been spiteful in his life. I wouldn't put it past Lucy, but not Clyde, lol.

And in case you were all wondering, I did apologize to my old lady for blaming her. She huffed at me and went outside. She'll get over it. :)

way too funny!! i sometimes think my old girl does stuff on purpose to get the new boy in trouble
lol..poor lucy.....lady never gets a break......

hope clyde starts feeling well enough to stop peeing in the house, in front of james
Poor Clyde! Hope he feels better soon. It is so interesting how the anomalous behavior of our dogs so often is tied to a medical situation.

Good storytelling!
Lucy is :x at you for not knowing better.

Poor Clyde, always something isn't it? It never occurred to me that a male would get a uti. Duh.

 Wow, Val, I'm feeling really dumb right now.
That's funny! (not the UTI part, the Lucy part)

If I get in trouble for stuff, I usually blame it on the cat. Jason will say, who ate the of the ice cream? And I'll say... Sydney did it!
Thanks for the laugh! Feel better soon, Clyde!
Poor Clyde. He was probably wondering what took you so long to figure out he wasn't feeling well!
Poor Lucy for getting the blame.
I hope Clyde is feeling better soon.
Aww poor Clyde but glad that Lucy wasn't going to be blamed for something she didn't do..that's a little brother for yah.

Sending sheepie kisses from the boys to Lucy and roof's to Clyde and hope he's feeling better.

Marianne
Well Lucy. you where saved from not needing to wear a diaper, wooo, that was close! How embarrasing that would have been. I hope sweet Clyde feels better soon!
Awww....poor Clyde...hope the boy is feeling better soon.

You'll have to give Lucy an extra treat to make it up to her.
Hope Clyde is feelin better soon and tell James he should be honoured, Clyde knew he would understand

Lol. You don't know how close she was to wearing diaper. We were really thinking about it. She would've been so mad at me if I made her wear one, especially for nothing!

The poor old ladies get blamed for everything!

Glad Clyde is feeling better.
oh, poor old lucy! Blame the old one!

Glad you figured it out about Clyde, though...

You know, it could be a bladder infection rather than a UTI. Now you guys have me wondering. I got talking to the vet and kind of segued off in another direction and interrupted her before she finished. All she said was "We checked his urine and he has a little infection." Either way, he still gets antibiotics so I guess it doesn't matter!
Don't worry - the UTI and bladder infection are really both the same.
UTI - urinary tract infection - is a broad term covering all of the urinary system. This includes kidneys, ureters, and bladder.

UTI's are more common in females than males mostly d/t anatomical structure.
Thanks Dawn. I ran into the vet at our city's Pet Expo and she explained it to me, too. It was bugging me so I was glad that I ran into her.

I'd also like to mention that I LOVE giving Clyde pills. It's so stress free and easy-- unlike a certain white female dog that I thought was responsible for the peeing.
That's good. :D
I laughed when I read thru and realized how close poor Lucy came to wearing diapers!
