NOT if you lived here!! ![]() I still have the air on. It's not the A/C (as I don't have one), it just blows cool air. People are still outside in tang-tops and shorts. |
Oh that sounds wonderful!!! Today the dogs and I were miserable. Clouds now and a nice breeze, but still low 90's near sunset. It will be your temps.....down around 60 by a.m.
Frost here doesn't come in the city until mid to late October....we get hit earlier because we are lower down and near the river......Rio Grande. Cold air sinks. I'll be cheering when the mosquitoes are killed!! |
The two years I've been here, I don't remember the black ice and snow beginning until Oct too. I'm not on the road every day, but I clearly remember the day it started last year. |
Bless your heart for cheering for cool weather in Alaska, lol. I am so glad I don't have to deal with the icy roads anymore. In Fairbanks, we had black ice in September, and by Halloween, there was a solid sheet of ice on the streets. I am down here worshipping the warm weather, even if it is unbearable some days, thats why they invented A/C. Are you staying for just a three year tour up there, or is your hubby going to extend? I don't think I could have tolerated another tour....of course hubby might have actually been home some, so it would have been better. We are now facing our third Iraq tour. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
It just cracks me up, Jo, to hear you cheering for cooler weather considering how much the cold used to bother you. I'm so glad it worked out so that you are enjoying the weather up there. ![]() |

Very Happy I know right?!?! Even when I have a bad raynaud's attack, I prefer it over TX weather!! I only want to return b/c both sets of grandparents are sad they don't know lil J. Although one of the places my husband is putting applications in for a job is Chicago. It's got to be cold there. Brrrr... Quote: We are now facing our third Iraq tour.
Oh, that's terrible. I wish the Army was more like the AF and only sent soldiers for 6 months. That's a lot more tolerable, and my husband and I would be able to deal with that easily. It's the last 6-9 months that seem to drag. Apparently my husband is close to getting Major, but he decided he rather be with the family, so he put in his papers to get out. I think going to Iraq is really starting to affect him emotionally since he's so family-oriented, and being there does not help the mental state of these guys. He still has nightmares from his first tour, and this time he's seen a lot worse, so I am not looking forward to how this may have changed him. He has not gotten rid of the idea of staying in AK for a little while longer b/c there are a lot of good jobs, but I'd like to be closer to family. |

I grew up in Mi and even as a kid, when the parental units werent around, I would jack up the heat and sit on the register with my shirt or sweater pulled up over my knees. There also was a powder room off of the kitchen that when the door was closed got up to sauna temps....id take all of my school clothes and get dressed in there......the only down side was when you opened the door, the rush of freezing air would snap you out of your heat induced stupor ![]() |
I was EXACTLY like you before we moved here. I will admit that I turned off the air and closed all the windows for the first time today. It was too cold this morning. |
I'm outside all day at the fair here, and, acclimated Alaskan that I am, I'm still resorting to long underwear and polar fleece already! ![]() |
