What to teach children about having a puppy?

Hi... We are waiting to find out if our land lord will allow us to get a large dog (have said yes to a small one) and we have been talking with an OES breeder for about a year and her bitch is currently pregnant. So fingers crossed for a beautiful OES puppy.

But regardless of whether we get an OES or not, I know that we will certainly get a furry addition to our family soonish. I was wonder on suggestions for children.

My daughter is 5 and I would like to make sure that she is properly prepared for life with a puppy. That way we have the best chance of both us and the puppy settling in well with our new life together. Particularly if we do get an OES as they are a large breed I would like to minimise any problems straight off

If you have children, how did you prepare your children for dealing with a puppy? Did you give them any puppy training :D

Much thanks

Mine was taught "GENTLE" and "the horse is NOT a stepping ladder."

...but he's only 20 months.

I think it's important to teach kids and set the example about giving human foods that are unhealthy.
