We have just about had it!!!!! HELP

I don't know that we can make it with puppy Darcy. She is SO hard to handle. We don't enjoy her like Fergie or our other dogs. This biteing and barking is so out of controll. The trainer is comeing again Friday. Today she almost took my arm out of the socket when I tried to take her out. My hubby was outside then and I had to let go of her leash. She was dragging me. I have did everything the trainer told us to do. She said she would get worse before she starts to mind us. But I don't know if I can make it. I am not a strong person. So what do I do????
Any help PLEASE!!!!!

Oh my. Have you tried a gentle leader for puppy Darcy?

How old is she?
she is 5 1/2 months now and her breeder wants to show her. She said NO to the leader.
A big part of the behavior for both of you is mental. You need to be more mentally strong. It sounds like you are psyching yourself out to lose, like an athlete who loses their competitve edge. Dogs are so intuitive for stuff like this. I am 100% certain that Darcy senses this and is playing it for all it's worth!
I see this all the time with my students in my classes. I can take their dog and they behave totally differently. I mentally expect them to behave. I see it as a cross between mentally expecting them to behave (positive thoughts) and also that I won't stand for their misbehavior. Whatever it is, it works. It is a hard thing to teach, but a needed component in lots of dog's education. Until I get the owner to have the same mental power, there will be no progress.

Another thing is her high energy needs at this age. How do you meet those needs? Does she get several miles in walks each day, vigorous playtime with other people or dogs, or something really good like that? You are in for an uphill struggle if she isn't getting this to start with.
We have this issue with Maggie, my husbands coonhound. She is almost 2 and a rescue dog. She is a great hunter, and has so much endurance and energy. Being a housedog does NOTHING close to meeting her exercise needs. I am home with her the most, and Todd knows I have had a rough day with her when he comes home from work and I meet him at the door and say "Take your dog for a run!". 8O It is amazing the difference a good long run does for her. She is like a whole new dog - for a few days anyway!

Good luck Deana!
She Darcy said no? Why did she have a choice??????!!!!!!

5 1/2 is a pretty bad age for these kids. They are starting to feel their independence and they start pushing the envelope.

Stay strong, sweetie. When Darcy is a grown girl, she will be worth all you have to do!

:ghug:
Not Darcy her breeder does not like the gental leader. We co-own Darcy.
I do agree she needs more play uotside to run, but I walk with a cane and it it hard to rump with her. When Madeline takes her for show dog traing she acts so good. I guess it is me that cannot handle her. She knows how to get at me. I have tried to make myself talk in a deeper voice, no luck. :(
Even though we have 3 ackers of land we live on a main highway and if she ran from the back yard to front we could not get to her before she might get to the road. There are no dog parks here. And any near parks all pets need to be on leashes. SUCKS
she gets lots of play time with Flannigan though.
a few ideas....fencing a chunk of your 3 acres.....hiring a dog walker.....asking a neighbor with a fenced yard if she could play there (maybe with another dog?)

I totally agree with Dawn....this sounds like an exercise issue, as well as having to do with frustration. I have a neighbor who has severe Fibromialga and walks with a cane, who cannot walk her young yellow lab for that reason. Her husband takes Aurora for 3-4 walks a day and comes over for playdates in our yard to help keep her on an even keel.

Hang in there Deanna! :)
Putting up a fence was already here when we bought the house. After 2 yrs of not useing it we took it down.
Now they want to rezone our land commerical and we have had a offer to sell. The offer is some what large. So now what do we do?
That's nice you have a good offer on your land. I remember your previous post about moving - now I understand!

Do you have any dog walkers, or even young people who would like to take her out? I remember as a college student I loved taking other people's dogs out. I was far from home and missed having a dog.

Also, my kids had a dog walking job when they were younger for a couple of high energy beagles. They went over after school and walked the dogs. The owners were a young couple who had long work days and liked the idea of their girls getting out for a walk while they were gone. They didn't pay alot, but it was a steady cash job that the kids liked doing.

I'm not trying to sound rude to the breeder, but if they are going to tell you how to walk your dog, and what not to do to help make walking your dog easier... why don't they just take the dog and do whatever they want with it? Maybe I just don't know enough about "co-ownership", so don't think I am being mean... I just don't know all the rules about that sort of thing. Is that something you specifically wanted? If not, I'd suggest letting the breeder have the dog back and getting one that could be yours alone to make the decisions about.
I know it isn't what you want to hear, and I'm not saying this to upset you, but I think given all the factors that you've named, I'd seriously consider returning her to the breeder. It sounds like things aren't improving in your relationship with Darcy and she just may not be a good match for you. It just may not be in your nature to be as strong as Darcy needs and no amount of training for the dog will change that. Also, if you're planning on moving out of state how would that affect showing her for Madeline?
