dog hit by car

Our Sami jumped out of our van today and ran right across the street, right into a can she hit her head, loud bang, she keeped running back to me right into the house we checked her out and seems alright(I thought she hit her shoulder, hub says head) She has never done this and never will be off a leash again because of this. What should I be watching for?

Have you called your vet? Or place a call to the emergency vet just to make sure what to look for in case she did injure herself. I hope she is alright.
Wait-- so she was hit by a car or ran into a can? I'm not sure I understand.
car was going up the street and she was running across the street to a friend and ran into the car. Sami at the moment is running in the house with a toy trying to get the cat to play with her. Our vet is out of town(does not live here) and is on holidays.
I hope your dog is okay, and glad she appears to be. :? That had to be scary!
I sure hope Sami is okay. Sometimes I am a little slow on catching on, so just to make sure I am clear:

There was a car going down the street, and Sami ran into the side of car, as it was passing?

Poor girl, she sure is a cutie!
yup thats it she is doing ok sleeps now
Just keep a very close eye on her over the next 12 to 24 hours, check her eyes and make sure there not looking bloodshot, check the colour of her gums that they are still a nice healthy pink colour, not pale. look inside her ears and make sure no blood there, make sure no excessive frothing from the mouth either and just monitor her carefully.

She has had a head trauma so any doubts or any small changes in her over the next 12 to 24 hours, get her off to an emergency vet to check her out.

How scary. I hope your Sami is OK.
As a certified trauma nurse, I second all of Lisa's advice above. A slow bleed can take days or even weeks to show symptoms, unfortunately.
If it were one of my gang, I would take her to a vet right away!
If my vet goes away someone always covers for him. I think even if she seems fine, she should be checked. Our babies are to precious to take a chance.
PLEASE pick up the phone and call ANY vet NOW to get professional advice.

If you heard a loud bang, there could be a serious injury that's just not presenting itself... yet.
I worry about a concussion or slow bleed that could take your dog's life while she sleeps.

Jeez... just noticed this happened yesterday :(
Is your pup okay today?
OMG... that is terrible! I agree with the others who are advising that you seek medical attention right away, regardless of how Sami seems. I don't want to alarm you or anything, but my mother had a cat that did the same thing, ran into a car as it was coming down the street. She seemed fine for the next 3 days, then on the morning of the 4th day, she was dead. the vet said it was an internal brain injury that just took a while to manifest itself. That's not a chance I would take with any of my animals.
Sami is ok today, the vet actually in town today, on hoildays but came in to Grande Cache today? I phoned they will be returning my call. So I have to wait and see what they have to say.
Oh thank you for calling.... I'm so glad they're in town today.
It's best to be extra cautious when it could involve a head injury.

Please keep us posted on how Sami is doing.
I'm taking her up later, they want us to keep and eye on her, he will be check on her mouth, eyes and ears making sure she has all her teeth etc
also got after hours # for stand in vet..... vet insurance.... sounding better and better
I agree... vet insurance may not be a bad idea. I know that I have spent over $1,000.00 this year so far in vet bills... office visits are expensive, then there's the labs, stool samples, prescription meds, and prescription food.... it sure adds up quick.
Just found out my neibours pup of 8 months goldendoodle was hit by a car in the same spot were Sami was(2 weeks ago) but he did not make it  He broke from his chain and ran after a raven.
That is very sad to hear. Golden Doodles are cute dogs.... almost as cute as sheepies
Better safe than sorry for sure. Hope your little cutie is OK! I felt really stupid recently taking Hannah to the vet and she had major problems that were completely unexpected. So again better safe than sorry. It's just not worth the risk. And if you can get insurance good idea. Believe me I know!
Well its been a couple of days and Sami is doing great thank god. She has been grounded to her chain when we go out front and she does thionk thats fair  But once we get to the brushs for our walk off thier leads they go. So anyone when you think you can trust your dog DONT  They are just to darn smart for thier own good.
I'm so glad to hear your beautiful baby's okay. :phew: :hearts:

We have to be smarter than the dog. We owners can be fooled into thinking our dog is recallable 100% of the time. All it takes is that 0.01% where the dog proves the owner wrong and the dog painfully looses. They can have bad days too or times when they're more easily distracted.

The local sheriff's dept. lost one of their police dogs earlier this year during a search/rescue. In a case like this the dog has to be let off-leash and they do have a LOT of training but it goes to show it can happen to the best of them. Fortunately he turned up a couple of days later and was safe.

The rule here is no dog goes out of a secured area without a collar/leash AND a human attached to the other end of the leash.
How scary! I'm glad Sami is okay. What did the Vet say? Did she have a concussion or anything?
Vet looked her over and said she has one strong head. No concussion, no bumps, everything was normal, lucky it was a car , if a truck she would have gone under.
I'm so glad all is OK!
